In Control with Cisco Linksys E1000 Wireless- N Router

Welcome to Pehpot’s Internet Shop

Internet is at 20PhP per hour while gaming is at 40 PhP per hour

Other services offered: free meal, free juice and free music (courtesy of the kids)

Yeah right! it is as if I have my own internet shop, what with more than 4 computers connecting to my net.. anyone would feel that way LOL

On ordinary days, we usually have 1 laptop (my hubby’s), netbook (mine used by my sister or the kids), my pc and an ipod. To say that we need a router is an understatement.. actually, our internet connection depends on a router. So when I was asked to review a router with a parental control feature, I did not hesitate. This is very timely as my first born is already starting to use the computer more often. And we already set up a blog for him to hone his writing skills and learn how to easily express himself.

The Product: Cisco Linksys E1000 Wireless- N Router

Specification: 2.4 GHz Band, Fast Ethernet (10/100) Ports

Features:

  • Guest Internet Access
  • WPA, WPA2 and other enhanced security features
  • stream stored music to other wireless device around the house
Installation is very easy. I maybe techy when it comes to blogging but when it comes to hardware, I am totally noob. I don not even know how to burn a CD. I installed the router by myself.. so it means it really is easy to install.
The first one to notice that difference of the speed is my husband since he is the one who utilize the wireless connection. He also said that when he tried connecting through our PS3 he says that the connection was up by 70% (from our old router which goes only as high as 50%). Now he can play all his Freddie Mercury songs on our room.
The most exciting part about Cisco Linksys E1000 Wireless- N Router is the parental control option. This option allows me take full control of my kids internet usage.
Open the router menu and when you try to open the Parental Controls Option, it’s password protected (wink wink)
The option allows you to control the time when a pc can go online. As you can see in the photo below, you can restrict it during school nights or on weekends. It also has an option to block sites that you think are not appropriate for the kids. You just enter the website and this will be blocked.

I blocked my site www.pehpot.com and here’s what I got when I try to access it:
And with these feature I will be more confident on letting my first born use the computer and write on his blog.
Another great feature and is very useful to me is the Guest Access Setting. For those who are not familiar, our house is like an open house, we always invite friends to come over and have a feast on whatever our fridge has to offer. And some of our friend bring their own laptop or they have smart phones with them, it’s a bit awkward that every time they try to connect I will get their gadget to enter our password. Now with Cisco Linksys E1000 Wireless- N Router Guest Access Setting, I can easily set up a guest account and not just only one but I can allow as much as 10 guests :)

I also like the feature where I can test my internet speed. Now I can know if my provider is really giving me the Mbps they promised :)

If you have kids and you want to limit their internet usage, Cisco Linksys E1000 Wireless- N Router is the best router for you.

Now I want to know to know how you stay connected, just answer the survey below:

  1. How do you access Internet at home? 3G or Wifi connection
  2. Do you connect many Wi-fi devices (eg, smartphone, tablet, laptop, wireless printer) at home? Yes or No. If yes, how many?
  3. Do you have a wireless router at home? If yes, which brand are you using?
  4. Which is the determine factor when choosing a home router for your home? a) Brand / b) Performance / c) Price?

And if you answer the survey, you’ll have a chance for the gift packs that I will raffle off on October 25… that’s 3 gift pack of my favorite items :) yes, 3 WINNERS!

Ten Mommy Bloggers were asked to review the router and post the survey..
IF I have the most respondents, you will
also get a chance on a CISCO Linksys E4200  which is worth PHP 8,995

    1. I have a DSL connection, but, since I don’t have a router yet, I access internet using desktop pc, and even though, I have smartphones that can access wifi connection, I still use 3G on my phones.

    2. 2 Android phones and a laptop.

    3. I don’t have, but, If I’ll get one, it should be LINKSYS, since, I know how to configure it.

    4. I prefer B. Performance. As a Technical Support for more than 5 yrs now, I prefer to get a product that is reliable and efficient. Brand comes 2nd, and Price is the last.
