This is such a fun meryenda idea because it’s sweet, savory, crispy, and filling all in one plate. Parang café-style snack, pero homemade and kid-approved. Day 1 of prepping one week of meryenda for the kids, and for today’s special request: waffles with chicken strips!

For the waffles, I used MAYA Original Fluffy n’ Tasty Hotcake Mix. The package recipe uses water, but I replaced it with milk and added a little more than the usual measurement para mas creamy ang batter and mas bagay siya sa waffle maker.
Waffles Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 pack MAYA Original Fluffy n’ Tasty Hotcake Mix, 250g
- 1 medium-sized egg
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 to 1 ¼ cups milk
- Maple syrup, for serving
Procedure:
In a bowl, combine the hotcake mix, egg, oil, and milk. Start with 1 cup of milk muna, then add more up to 1 ¼ cups if needed. The batter should be smooth and pourable, but not too watery.
Preheat the waffle maker and lightly grease it with oil or cooking spray. Pour enough batter into the waffle maker, close, and cook until golden brown and lightly crisp outside.
Set aside while preparing the chicken strips.
Chicken Strips Recipe
For the chicken strips, recipe ni ate ito. Simple lang siya but super flavorful, especially with the double coating method para mas crispy after frying.

Ingredients:
For the chicken and marinade:
- 500 grams chicken breast fillet, sliced into strips
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 egg
For the coating:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Oil, for frying
Procedure:
Place the chicken fillet strips in a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix until the chicken is evenly coated.
Add the milk, vinegar, and egg, then mix again. Let the chicken marinate for at least 20 to 30 minutes para mas malasa and tender.
In a separate bowl, prepare the coating by combining flour, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
Get one chicken strip, coat it with the flour mixture, then dip it back into the marinade. Coat it again with the flour mixture for the second coating. Repeat with the rest of the chicken strips.
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the chicken strips in batches until golden brown, crispy, and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan para hindi bumaba ang temperature ng oil and para crispy pa rin ang coating.
Once cooked, transfer the chicken strips to a rack or plate lined with paper towel to remove excess oil.
How to Serve Waffles with Chicken Strips
Serve the freshly cooked waffles with crispy chicken strips on the side. Drizzle maple syrup over the waffles, or serve the syrup separately para the kids can add as much as they like.
The combination of soft and slightly crisp waffles with crunchy chicken strips is so good. Sweet, salty, and savory in every bite.
