I recently attended the Safeguard DermShow Divas (aka Safeguard Derm-Protect Kris Aquino) event at The Tent, Enderun in Taguig City, and I have to say, this wasn’t your usual skincare event. Akala ko launching lang ng bagong Safeguard products but I ended up having a really fun afternoon filled with skincare discoveries, mom conversations, lots of laughs, and even a little unexpected DogShow moment of my own.
As a mom, major concerns talaga ang skin acting up kapag may mga teens ka. And I tend to blame the usual suspects- kakapuyat nyo yan! or kaka cellphone nyo yan! Kaka chirchirya nyo yan hahaha. Germs and bacteria pala lalo na kapag ang skin barrier is compromised.
But before the chika sa skin, let me tell you about the event itself because DermShow Divas was such a clever and fun concept.
From DogShow Divas to DermShow Divas
For this event, DogShow Divas Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo transformed into the DermShow Divas, bringing their trademark humor to a topic we usually hear discussed in a much more serious setting—skin health.
Syempre pag andyan ang DogShow Divas, you know hindi pwedeng walang dogshow!
True enough, habang nagho-host sila, they spotted me in the audience and acknowledged yours truly—Mommy Pehpot— and introduced me in true DogShow Divas fashion as “Mommy Pehpot, the bastion of mommy influencers,” “ang haligi ng mommy influencer,” at kung anu-ano pang titles na parang kailangan ko nang lagyan ng historical marker ang blog ko. PERO BAKIT ANG MGA MPMC MOMMIES NA KASAMA KO HINDI NAKUHANAN NG VIDEO ITO ANG MGA MOMENT NA ITO???? Paano ako mag eentry sa TIKTOK?!? Pinaka malupit talaga yun “ang nagturo kay Mother Theresa kung paano maging momfluencer.”
Hindi ko alam kung tatayo ba ako, yuyuko, or tatanggap ng lifetime achievement award! 😂 I love you talaga Baus and Macoy! Isa po ako sa PTA President ng fansclub nyo!!!
What I learned about Skin Health
One thing that really stayed with me was the importance of our skin barrier and how germs can contribute to recurring skin concerns.
According to board-certified dermatologists Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas, when the skin barrier is compromised, the skin becomes more vulnerable to irritation, microorganisms, and other external factors that may contribute to recurring skin concerns. Kaya pala hindi lang dapat kung ano ang nakikita natin sa skin ang ina-address. Maintaining a healthy skin barrier, together with proper cleansing and antibacterial care when needed, is also important.

And of course, dahil may teens ako, very relevant sa akin ang Safeguard Derm-Protect Oil and Acne Germ Cleanse, which is infused with Salicylic Acid. Antibacterial Soap Doesn’t Have to Mean Dry Skin
Another interesting discussion during the event was about the common misconception that antibacterial soaps are automatically harsh or drying on the skin. I think ito rin naman ang isa sa reasons why some people immediately choose something labeled “gentle” when they have skin concerns.
Dr. R-Jay Agbon explained, “Not all gentle soaps can provide germ protection, and not all germ-tough soaps are harsh on the skin. It’s a myth that all antibacterial soaps are drying.” He added that with the right formulation, you can achieve effective germ protection while maintaining healthy skin and still have a pleasant shower experience.
This makes sense to me because as a mom, when I choose products for the family, I want something that works but at the same time hindi naman harsh sa skin. We shouldn’t necessarily have to choose between germ protection and gentleness if a product is formulated to provide both.
Derms and Moms Talk Skin
The highlight of the event was the live podcast hosted by Baus and Macoy together with Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and Dr. R-Jay Agbon, plus “Skinthusiast Moms” Valeen Montenegro and Lottie Bie. They talked about skincare myths and the things moms consider when choosing products for themselves and their families.
I could relate when Lottie talked about how becoming a mom changed the way she chooses products. “Mas naging mapili talaga ako ngayon na mom na ako. Mas conscious na ako sa mga products na ginagamit at binibili ko kasi hindi na lang naman ako yung iniisip ko. Kung ano yung ginagamit ko, possible na maka-affect din sa baby ko,” she shared. Totoo naman, when you’re a mom hindi na lang kung ano ang gusto mo ang consideration. You also think about what everyone at home will be using.
Valeen also talked about how Safeguard Derm-Protect gives her peace of mind while giving her that healthy-skin feeling both in and outside the shower. I think this is really what most moms are looking for—something effective, easy to incorporate into the family’s everyday routine, and something you can feel confident about using.

Na sadly ay hindi ko na inabutan because I had to go home in the middle of the event. May emergency bigla sa bunso eh. Parang mga nagulat na germs yung puso ko when I recieved a text from ate na nahihirapan huminga si Mathieu. Parang skin barriers na nagka clog clog na hindi ako makahinga! Kung naabutan ko si Kris, siguro tinuruan ko din sya paano maging mommy influencer char!

Aside from my new title as the “bastion of mommy influencers” courtesy of Baus and Macoy, ang pinaka-takeaway ko talaga from the event is that sometimes we need to look beyond the obvious when dealing with recurring skin concerns lalo na sa mga anak ko.
I also like that Safeguard Derm-Protect still gives us the germ protection we know Safeguard for, but now with skincare ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide Essence, and Salicylic Acid depending on your skin concern. For me, anything that makes taking care of the family’s skin simpler is always worth knowing about.
So ngayon, may Safeguard na for face na talaga… at least hindi na magkakamali ang mga tao sa bahay what Safeguard bar to use… if you know.. you know hahaha
