How Car Seats Work

Automobile accidents result in some of the most severe injuries known to modern medicine. While in a car crash, our bodies are exposed to tremendous masses and enormous acceleration – which every fifth grader knows gives us very large forces.

The main issue is that conventional safety mechanisms (seatbelts, airbags) simply weren’t designed with a child’s frame in mind, and are therefore ineffective in that respect. So in order to properly protect your little ones, you’re going to need some additional equipment – a child’s car seat.

A child’s car seat operates on a pretty simple principle:

1) A harness keeps them stabilizes and pins them to the car seat using five separate contact points.
2) A tether secures it to the backseat of the vehicle and prevents it from toppling over.
3) A cushion that absorbs any impact in the event of an accident.
