6 Scuba Diving Tips and Tricks

Going for scuba diving lessons is one of the most thrilling leisure time activities that you can have. Besides that, diving gives you a chance to explore the world below ground. In fact, there are some animal and plant species that can only be found in deep waters. And that’s not all. You can take some pictures of the animal and plant species. However, most people don’t know the dos and don’ts of scuba diving. Such ignorance can really compromise on your safety when you are at the bottom of the sea. Here is a list of tips and tricks that can be of great help in your next scuba diving expedition.

1. Never Dive in Strange Waters

This one is actually a no brainer. Just because you are a certified diver doesn’t mean you can dive into any water that you are not familiar with. This is because the fish species in such waters might be hostile. You might also get lost on your way up. Before you dive into any water, you should first do thorough research on what’s beneath it and how deep it is. This will give you an edge because you will know what to expect once you jump into such waters. In fact, you should first map out your driving route so that you can know the path to follow when ascending to your boat.

2. Wear Safety Gear

Diving without the right gear is obviously a recipe for disaster. Without a pair of goggles, you will not be able to see where you are going, especially if the water is salty. You also need to carry a gas cylinder so that you have an adequate supply of fresh water. Besides that, it’s important you wear fins as they help you swim faster when the need arises. You should actually try every gear before attempting to dive. This helps in ensuring that there are no surprises during your greatest hour of need. You can get info from ScubaList.Pro.

3. Move Slowly

If you want to get the most out of your scuba diving session, you just have to move slowly. After all, no one dives when they should be somewhere grinding. When you move fast, you will not see many things. Navigating the waters at a slow pace gives you an opportunity to observe things more intimately and probably take photos or record short films. Besides that, it helps in taming the water’s friction and resistance.

4. Monitor Your Surroundings

As a novice scuba diver, you may not be weary of your environment. However keeping an eye on your surroundings can help in letting you know when to hang around and when to stay. You will also be able to tell if your dive buddies are faring well or they need to be assisted in a certain way. You should therefore take a moment to look around, observe how the fish are behaving and the currents because they might give you a clue of what’s about to happen.

5. Never Dive Under the Influence

Driving under the influence on dry land can earn you a jail term. But the story is different when you go diving. Though no one will be there to arrest you, being drunk while diving is really dangerous. This is because you will not be able to make sound decisions when the situation demands you do so. You should therefore not go diving when you are not sober. After all, the ocean is here to stay, meaning you can explore it on any other day.

6. Remain Calm

Trying to exercise is a huge mistake. This is because waving your hands or legs repeatedly will take you up before you are done. You should therefore try your best to stay calm. In fact, staying calm helps in conserving your gas reserve and energy. When you move your legs and arms vigorously, you definitely use more energy which in return hikes your demand for air.
