How To Open A Savings Account For Kids

That little piggy went to market.. that little piggy went to bags (?!?).. but this little piggy will go all the way to the bank!

It’s the time of the year where we can spend a few extras and save a lot.. hello 13th month! Hello cash gifts from godparents!

I guess this is the best time to open an account for the kids and as I hop from bank to bank, I made a list of banks that offer savings account for kids:

  • BDO Junior Savers
  • BPI Jumpstart Savings
  • Eastwest Bank Cools  Cavers Kiddie
  • PS Bank Kiddie Savers
  • Metrobank Fun Savers
  • RCBC Savings Banks W.I.S.E

Opening a Savings account for kid requires school ID or passport of the kids, photos (usually 2 1×1 photo) and of course the minimum initial deposit and application form from the bank. Kids ages 7 and up (or kids that can write/sign their name) can open an account of their own, while kids below the said age, can have a joint bank account with their parents.

Here’s a comparison of the 6 banks I mentioned:

RCBC Savings Bank WISE Account

Metrobank Fun Savers Club

BDO Junior Savers Club

If you look at the table, PS Bank offers the most, specially with their no initial deposit to open an account policy. PS Bank also has the highest interest rate per anum together with RCBC Savings Bank, the only difference is at RCBC, maintaining balance to earn interest is PhP 5000, while at PS Bank, there is no maintaining balance to earn interest.

I am still thinking where to open a savings account for the kids.. I’ll be very particular with the initial deposit since I will be opening 4 accounts this year (waaah) and of course the location of the bank..and the convenience of online banking. I was planning to allot a few percent of my online income for the kids, so it would be very convenient to me if I can transfer funds to their account thru online.

How about you mommies? Does you kids have their own bank accounts? If yer, what bank? Are you satisfied with your current bank?

And for those planning to open an account for their kids, where do you plan to open an account?

Planning For Our Noche Buena 2013

11 days before Christmas and my sisters are already planning what to cook for Noche Buena. OMG! I am not done with my Christmas decors yet!  The truth is, I am not in the mood to set up my decorations this year. The Christmas tree is already up, but the lights and other Christmas decors are still in their respective boxes… we won’t be spending Christmas here.. so that’s one of the reason why.. we’ll be spending Noche Buena with my family and Christmas Day with my cousins (more about that later ha).

My sisters are planning what to have this Christmas, Italian? Filipino, American, Chinese or Japanese themed Noche Buena? hmmm why not Mexican? We can have all the tacos in the world! But I know, deep in my heart, I’d always go for a Filipino themed Noche Buena. And when it comes to Filipino dishes, Kare-Kare, Embotido, Halaya and Leche Flan should be there! That is what heaven on earth for me.. Kare-kare sauce + embotido + steaming rice.. halaya and leche flan for dessert! That is a Merry Merry Christmas! Agree?

I want to surprise my sisters this Christmas with new recipes and with my new baking “talent” hahaha and while looking for a great recipe for Embotido, I came across Green Cross Mommy Pro Christmas Favorites with a Twist Article.

I am sharing with you the recipe for Embotido with a twist:

Ingredients:

2 lbs. lean ground pork

½ cup fresh bread crumbs soaked in ¼ cup milk

1 chorizo (or 4 oz. pepperoni), finely chopped

2 eggs slightly beaten

¼ cup sweet relish

¼ teaspoon pepper

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 teaspoons salt

2 tablespoons raisins (optional)

2 hard boiled eggs, quartered (8 slices)

2 tablespoons softened butter

How to cook it:

1.      Preheat oven to 350°F.

2.      Thoroughly combine all ingredients except cooked eggs and softened butter.

3.      Butter the center of a 12” X 18” piece of heavy duty aluminum foil.

4.      Spread half of the pork mixture on buttered foil making a rectangle about 8”X10”.

5.      Arrange 4 slices of eggs in a row at the center, lengthwise.

6.      Roll meat around eggs and wrap with the foil sealing the edges securely.

7.      Do the same thing with the remaining half of the pork mixture, making two rolls in total.

8.      Bake in a pan for 1 ½ hours. Let rest for 15 minutes before unwrapping. Slice crosswise.

9.      Serve either cold or pan fry until golden brown.

10.  Enjoy!

Can you imagine pepperoni in embotido? That would be wonderful! (I love pepperoni eh haha)

Mommy Pro also features a recipe for Creamy Caramel Flan and Filipino-style Spaghetti. I might try that too!

How about you? What’s your handa this Noche Buena? Are you done planning the dishes you will prepare? Share it with us!

Barbie Live! The Musical (Meet And Greet)

An early Christmas gift for my little girl! VIP tickets for us for the Barbie Live! The Musical + meet and greet! ayayay!

And as one of my blogger friends put it, if it is not for Barbie (and for the princess of course) we wouldn’t brave MOA.. it was all worth it (even if I spend 800 for taxi fare haha)

The princess before the show starts 🙂

In Barbie Live The Musical, Barbie and her best friend, Teresa stars in a new movie. The show tells the story of Barbie as she helped Teresa overcome her uncertainties for the role assigned to her. Teresa is doubting her talents and to make matters worse, their co star, Raquel is trying to to steal Teresa’s role!

Barbie helped Teresa overcome her self doubt by telling her the stories and values she learned from her past movies; Swan Lake, Mariposa & the Fairy Princess and Princess & the Popstar.

The set was spectacular.. breathtaking! I think I enjoyed the show more than my princess..but there’s this one particular scene where are all the kids screamed in delight:
