Thomas The Train

I never really like battery operated toys. But when a friend gave Mico Thomas The Tank Engine starter set, we were hooked. I just can’t get enough of this cute little trains and the fact that you can go on and on building his city. As of now, we already have a box full of trains, tracks and other accessories. I have been planning to buy the set where in, theres more than 5 trains.. but that would cost me 6K in PhP.. maybe it can wait, we need to have our own house first and a place to set up Thomas City..

Did you know that Thomas, Barney and Bob the Builder came from the same entertainment distribution company, HiT Entertainment. Other characters under HiT are Angelina Ballerina, a feisty little mouse that works hard to reach her goal and along the way, always learn from her mistakes. Fireman Sam, the ultimate hero next door. Been known to rescue anything, from his friends to cat on top of trees. Pingu, the clumsy and mischievous penguin that loves to play just like any other young penguin.

Plastic Is Not Fantastic

Do you know what my most used phrase this week? Nah.. not that college angst word.. hehe im not a college anymore no.. OK next to hindi ba kayo titigil (referring to the kids: are you not going to stop?) and that would be.. WAG MO NA IPLASTIC.. (don’t put it in a plastic) although I get funny remarks most of the time and concern faces, I am proud to say that I am PLASTIC FREE.

Saturday morning. I went to Pasig wet market. Bought a lot of cute dresses for Sati and some cheap bags for me. Went to 4 different stalls and said no to 4 plastic bags. Yay!

Afternoon, I went to Divisoria for Kuya and Sati’s birthdays giveaways.. went to 9 stores.. but failed to say no to plastic to one store.. the dried fish store.. bought Tuyo, Dangit, Dilis and dried Pusit.. asked the store owner to put some on the nwespaper but the Dilis was already in plastic.. sadness.. so that’s 8 plastics..

Monday morning. Greenhills to check out some place.. and since I’m already in the area, walked my way to GH shopping center. Found some cute Tinker Bell fairies and though I did not brought some shopping bags with me, I managed to say NO to plastic by taking the items out of its packaging and just throwing it inside my bag. Also bought some vitamins (chewable Ceelin, will post about that later) and good thing Mercury Drug understand the phrase NO to PLASTIC. Said no to 2 plastic bags.

Tuesday afternoon. Off to Talipapa (small wet market here in our place).. and though I promised, I again, broke it. Had to use plastic for my fresh fish.. which brought me to thinking, what shall I do when I am going to buy wet goods? Where should I put it?

Wednesday morning. Walked to Talipapa again.. this time, I bought an eco bag and a square reusable plastic ware (stress on the word reusable). I bought half kilo of chicken and asked the vendor to put it on my ware instead of plastic bag. Bought pandesal and some bread.. veggies and banana and all of them are thrown in my shopping bag. said no to 5 plastic bags

Lunch time. was looking for some printing shop for Sati’s tarp and giveaway… went shopping to a thrift shop on the way..bought 12 tops for 400 PhP (what a steal!) and a boots for 350 (another one!) and said NO to 2 plastic bags.

My family are really trying hard to do our part on saving the environment. As we go on everyday,w e are more conscious on bringing our own bag. And though some malls already declared Wednesday as NO plastic day (here in Pasig, Friday is no straw day), I believe everyday should be BRING YOUR OWN BAG day.

I hope with my every week postings of how many plastic bags I said NO to.. you will also be inspired to say the same phrase: MANONG WAG MO NA IPLASTIC.

oh just this week, we were able to say NO to 21 plastic bags! yay!

Sérye Post.. Vegetarian Kare Kare

Seriously? Vegetarian Kare Kare? Well maybe.. no beef but pure veggies, but what about the stock? I can’t imagine how will it taste minus the beef stock.

But then again.. Sérye Café Filipino (yes, still part of Sérye Café Filipino experience we had last Friday) made it possible.

The same goodness of Kare Kare minus the beef..the same smooth peanut based sauce, the same veggies but this time with tofu as the main meat. And since this is a Vegetarian Dish, alamang is definitely out. So what will balance the taste? This…

A serving of equally tasteful but animal free dip. Equally as it has the same effect as the alamang to your usual Kare Kare. I am so amazed at how they were able to find this dip recipe for their Vegetarian Kare-Kare. That was Tausi and Tahore..(another soya product).

And that’s Michelle in action as she took a photo of that Kare Kare..

Will I try this dish again? Of course I would! And would even recommend this to my friends who are into meat and of course this is something to rave about to my friends who are not into meat. Go try it for yourself…

And oh, the prices at Sérye Café Filipino are all budget friendly 😉
