The Baby Company Grand Baby Fair 2011

Today until Sunday, get ready to experience the Grand Company Fair. We have heard of gadget fair, food fair and the likes, now it’s time our babies shine. Last night, I was able to take a glimpse of what’s in store for our babies (there were some for mommies too!) at Grand Baby Company Fair.

I brought Sati along, and we’re really glad that Avent provided a breastfeeding station. And not only that, we also recieved some gift packs from Avent, for using their station (that is really cool, thanks much Avent!)

Our favorite vitamin C provider was there too. And they give free photo session for moms and kids. Got to know what’s the difference of the orange Ceelin and the red Ceelin (more on that later).

Other companies present are:

CordLife, the Philippines’ first cord blood processing and cryopreservation facility.

Graco, one of the best name when it comes to stroller and car seats.

Funds go to various education programs that UNICEF Philippines is supporting.Apart from giving children a chance to be the best they can be, UNICEF items exemplify responsible giving. All UNICEF cards and gifts are developed and produced to stringent international standards of quality, safety, social responsibility, and environmental protection.

Ethical sourcing. Ethical sourcing is at the heart of the UNICEF collection. UNICEF suppliers, wherever they are, big or small, adhere to standards on the fundamental rights of their employees—and in particular the complete prohibition of child labor.

Artisan and handcrafted. UNICEF also actively supports artisans in inspiring handcrafted products, engaging only with socially responsible workshops and producers that conform to UNICEF’s principles.

Environmentally responsible. Especially with the recent natural calamities affecting millions of Filipino children, protecting the environment has always been a primary concern for UNICEF, that is why only wood and paper from managed forests and exclude materials that can negatively impact nature are used.

UNICEF relies entirely on voluntary donations for our work for children – we receive no core funding from the UN. Donations come from governments, private corporations and individual donors, including those who purchase our cards and gifts.

Meralco Appliance Calculator

Will you be surprised if I tell you, I don’t care about our Meralco bill. Before, I tortured myself finding ways to decrease or lessen our electricity cost, but whatever I do, it stays that way. I tried almost everything, from using stove instead of rice cooker to using electric fan instead of the air conditioner. The thing is, I don’t know where the bulk of our bill came from. Is it the ref that runs 24 hours, 7 days a week (oh we even lessen the times our ref was opened) or is it the TV? Maybe it’s the aircon. Who’s the real culprit? Who?

I wish Meralco will come up with a site or an application that will help me control my electric consumption. Something that will tell me how much electricity my electric fan consumes in a given time. Something that will tell me to turn off my TV so that I can lessen its consumption. And something that will tell me, what kind of appliances will consume more and what type will consume less.
Oh wait! Meralco just launched their new application:Meralco Appliance Calculator

If you frequent Meralco’s website, you will notice that even their site had a makeover.
So what does the Meralco Appliance Calculator or MAC do? TheMeralco Appliance Calculatoris designed to become theelectricity bill management toolof Meralco residential costumers to help them:
  1. Better manage their electric consumption and their electric bill.
  2. Make wiser decision in buying home appliances.
  3. Get home energy efficient tips that are customized to their home electricity consumption.

Actually, the Meralco Appliance Calculator (M.A.C) has been around since 2003. But this time, there has been new features added that cater the needs of Meralco’s costumers. You can access M.A.C in Meralco’s website (http://www.meralco.com.ph/).

Lower left is the MAC icon. Just click it to be go to Meralco Appliance Calculator page:
Click the M.A.C online version. You can see that it has a downloadable version. So yes, you can use it while you are offline. You just need to install the program to your computer.

Before you can use the Meralco Appliance Calculator, you need to read the Agreement and agree. As you can see, you can use “My Appliance Calculator” or “My Bill Manager”.
“My Appliance Calculator” allows the user to calculate the estimated consumption cost of appliances – one at a time.
“My Bill Manager”, on the other hand, allows the user to calculate the estimated consumption cost of appliances in a table format. It allows the user to get an estimate of the household’s total electric consumption cost and see which appliances consume more electricity.
Other features of the “My Bill Manager” menu include: consumption manager, energy efficiency adviser and target bill amount estimator. Consumption manager allows the user to see the corresponding electric consumption pie chart and some text description of the chart based on the information provided by the user. The energy efficiency adviser, meanwhile, allows user to see some energy efficiency tips based on the information provided by the user. The target bill amount estimator, on the other hand, allows the user to see an estimate of his “monthly target kWh consumption” and “estimated price per kWh” by just inputting the “target electric bill
amount”.
Other new features of the M.A.C include:
  • e-mailing of the M.A.C web link to friends through the “email” button;
  • sharing the M.A.C web link to FacebookandTwitter accountsthrough the “share” button;
  • sending feedback to Meralco regarding the new M.A.C through the “feedback” button;
  • printing the computation results of “My Bill Manager” through the “print” button (for easy access and future reference of the computations), and;
  • viewing the basis for computing the estimated electricity consumption of home appliances for the M.A.C application through the “formula” button (so that users can validate the results of the computations).

M.A.C is easy to use. Mommy Blogger Fedhz gave it a try while enjoying a foot spa at Beauty and Butter.
