Creating A Super Hero Bedroom

Getting kids to sleep is never easy, but creating a fun bedroom space for them can at least help with the transition to the bedroom – which is the first barrier to overcome. Many children love superheroes, so this is a great design idea for a child’s room.

The chances are that if your child loves superheroes, he or she will have a particular favourite, usually dreamt up by either DC Comics or Marvel. These characters are designed in such a way as to have an impact using two or three bold, striking colors. If you want to design a room around a particular superhero, you should use these colours as a base – red and blue for example, with a hint of yellow for Superman and a hint of black for Spider-Man.

If you have a little artistic skill, however, you can use a neutral shade for the wall and paint the character over the top – or if you’re feeling particularly inventive, create your own superhero. This can be a great way to engage the child in storytelling, as it provides the freedom for the child to think up his or her own stories for the character.

The bed is obviously an important feature and so you’ll want one which is a little bit fun to engage the child; you can do this by selecting superhero bedspreads for the relevant character. Also, it might be advisable to look for a firm which provides affordable storage beds, like these ones http://www.time4sleep.co.uk/beds/childrens-beds, as you need to free as much shelf space as you can.

This is because action figures are a vital part of completing a superhero bedroom, and these should be out on display, not stuffed away in a box. While the key character should of course have pride of place, the more characters you add the better – your hero needs someone to interact with after all. A great way to finish the room off is with a life-size cardboard cut-out of your chosen hero – that way your child can feel safe with a superhero watching over them.

Rainy Season Checklist: Keeping Your Kids Safe & Healthy During Rainy Season

Rainy Days! argh! it’s so hard to wake up on rainy mornings(yet it was so hard to get back to sleep during heavy rains.. paranoia attack!)..it’s rainy/typhoon season once again.. and as always, we have to be prepared.. not just for typhoons but as well as for other things this season brings..

Here’s my Rainy Day Safety Checklist:

For the kids:

Vitamins! Vitamins! Vitamins! This season is very friendly to bacteria and other microorganisms.. and the spread of diseases and that is why we need to boost the immune system more. Nothing is scarier than rainy season+ weak immune system (fiesta for the viruses). Their vitamin C intake is now doubled as compared to their regular intake. Aside from their growth vitamins, I also added energy boosting supplements, to help my boys cope up with school activities and my little ones to maintain energy even the weather is telling otherwise.

Rainy Season is also Dengue Season.. and to keep my kids safe from mosquitoes, I  bought insect repellants, lotion and patch. The patch will be put on strategic places such as under the computer table, under the study table, their playhouse and inside their small activity gym.

Hooded Jackets is also a must. Theirs was a lil small now so we’ll be buying bigger ones. And I know where we are heading to buy jackets.. Greenhills Shopping Center (sana lang tapos na sila maglipat lipat ng stalls nila).

For the house:

We need a dozen or so umbrellas. Actually I already bought some when I went to Divisoria for school supplies shopping, I also have some umbrellas from events I attended (times like these, you’ll thank PRs who give umbrellas as token).. my kids.. they thought those umbrellas were samurais.. sigh. I need another trip to Divisoria for some serious umbrella shopping.

Flood Control er Flood preparation.. having experienced Ondoy, we’re quite paranoid of what rainy season has to offer.. and if ever that happens again, we have to be prepared. Orient the kids on what they should do…make a checklist of what’s needed to be saved and what we can let go.. and with a household of 4 kids and no helpers, we have to be systematic if ever another flood happens. Good thing my boys are bigger now and is more responsible. Aside from that, I do not want to experience the same hunger we had during Ondoy, so I am preparing a basket of goodies (water+biscuits+ vitamins).. which will be placed upstairs.

For Mommy and Daddy:

Of course we also need to boost our immune system (di lang naman bata ang nagkakasakit no!) and with that, we’re also doubling our vitamin c intake and we drink lots and lots of water.

and for me not to miss my pill.. bed weather.. hahaaays..

How about you? what’s your rainy season check list? How do you make sure your kids are safe and healthy during rainy season?

Flowers In My Garden

Quick gardening update 🙂 today is laundry day, I only have few minutes to blog 🙂

While enjoying a cup of my favorite cereal drink, I always make it a point to say good morning to my plants. And it never fails to give a smile on my face whenever I see flowers blooming from my garden.. imagine mornings with this:

That’s an Okra flower..I have 3 active okra plants, flowering everyday and giving me okra fruit almost everyday.. harvest since Wednesday gave me more than ten okras, perfect for lunch today 🙂 (nilagang okra + pritong tilapia + bagoong na halubaybay with calamansi and sili!)

Aside from okra, beside my garden office/coffee corner  is a tomato plant.. I always look forward having breakfast with this:

ang hirap nya i-capture! tuwad, dapa at kung ano ano pa ang ginawa ko.. but these tiny flowers are really lovely. my photo did no justice to these flowers ahaha

The most interesting/ amazing thing happened on my garden is this:

That’s my sigarilyas and I am guessing that it will soon start to flower.. ayayay! I’m so happy when I found out.. jump for joy!

Sigarilyas is very close to my heart, my grandmother used to plant this. I remember as a child, we used to marvel at the sigarilyas vines as well as its fruit..I guess that’s another reason why sigarilyas is one of my (few) favorite vegetable.

My silis are very active too:

and starting to bear sili!!! waaaah

I am a fulfilled gardener this week!

but, I need to manage pests.. specially for my sitaw (which is strting to crawl).. someone mentioned about Marigold… where can I find those coin bearing plant?
