Baby Wearing IS Comfort and Convenience

I was on my third pregnancy when I discovered baby wearing or sling. Having two toddlers on hand and a soon to be another bundle, I was on the look for a very chic and convenient way to carry the three of them. I know I can’t use carriers as it would be hard (and uncomfortable) to use it for newborns. I was web hoping when I came across a site that offers sling. I was amazed how useful it can be and how easy it was to use. And I have seen that even newborns are safe on it. Being a geek on everything homemade or hand sewn, I made my own sling.

There were actually different kind of slings . There are those that they call ring sling (the one I am using) and then there were pouches and wraps. The one that suits me well was the ring sling. It is a garment with two rings (maybe nylon or iron, but wood in my case) attached on its one end.

I am very comfortable using my sling. I know a lot of people were amused and sometimes shocked to see me wearing my baby. I can’t explain to them how easy and convenient the sling to us. Some of those asked if my baby was comfortable in it. Some are rude enough to stare and when caught pretend they are not. I get a lot of weird look and sometimes hubby can’t tolerate that much. We do argue at times because of my sling (and I hate it when it happens). Now I give it to you ignorant people (and as if they can read my blog) some FAQ (I know you are itching to ask) about wearing my baby.

Is the baby comfortable?
When people ask me this question, I wan to throw them a weird look and give a sarcastic answer. If they would just stare more and care to look also on the baby, they will see how Chico is sleeping nicely inside it. If he is not, he should have shouted and caught more than their attention. Is it not obvious? Yes he is VERY comfortable in his sling.

Are you comfortable with it?
With two free hands? why not? Yes I am very comfortable with it. The weight of my baby does mot bother me at all. The best part is my both hands are free. The sling to me is like heaven sent. It’s usefulness to me were endless. You know I can cook with him on it. I can do the grocery grabbing anything with my two hands. I can do laundry while Chico is comfortably sleeping on it. I can even hang our clothes while Chico is breastfeeding inside it. See?

How do you wear it?
This will be difficult to answer without the use of a video but I would try my best to describe it as detailed as I can. As I have said earlier, the sling is a garment with two rings attached on its one end. You wrap the sling in your body. The end where it holds the rings should be over your shoulder. The garment in diagonal position at your back, and it hugs your other side. The ends meets up in front of you (somewhere in your breast) and you close it by inserting the other end on two rings, then inserting it again on the other ring (the one under). As you will see, there is an opening of the garment, you just pop in the baby there and there you go.

Where to buy it?
I have only seen a few sites (local) who sells sling. In multiply you can find some. Here are some of the sites that I found:

indigobaby

You just check them out if you are on the looks for the chicest way to wear your baby.. Although mine is a homemade, I do recommend those sites for you because they really house the cutest designs I have seen.

I am not into attachment parenting (or maybe I am), or I am not familiar with it, but I use sling simply because it is very convenient for me and very comfortable for my baby. I really hope that somebody most parents will see the benefit of using one and so as I can walk without people looking at me as if I am a roving tourist attraction (and that goes with the leash too).

Noche Buena

Where did we spend it? in my Nanay’s house, where else. The night was rather crazy than festive. December 25 was my nephew’s baptismal and we spend the night preparing for the day. Aside from the usual food preparations, we busied ourselves with redecorating the house and destructing the cake (binastos ang gumawa ng cake). See for yourself.. hehe.. This used to be a two piece rectangular chocolate cake, my sister scraped of the icing and made a ‘dirt toad’ one.. I did the road.. and voila! And yeah she bought the cars, the baptismal was themed disney characters and cars.. (not to be confused with the movie cars)

Dylan was so amazed with his cake.. or amused?

Come midnight and our noche Buena food was still on the stove. Past twelve when we finally had a decent food on our small table. Woke up the kids to show them what’s on their Christmas socks. Then gave them their gifts (which they already know beforehand) and then off to devour our Chinese themed Noche Buena. What is on the table? Shrimp, cooked with garlic and chili (my very own recipe), tenderloin in mushroom and young corn (I would like to thank Mc cormick for the success of this meal). We also have siomai (purchased from the newly opened Robinson’s in our tuktuk ng Timbuktu province) and then we have spring rolls and Chinese kikiam (so oily and so yummy). And of course we have fried rice (supposed to be mixed rice). The night, though crazy, was fun and fulfilling (fulfilling the tradition of Noche Buena, hehe). December 25.. that’s another story.. and I leave it to Dylan to tell.

I miss my Baby

My first born, Kayil, he is now 5 years old. He no longer needs mommy that much. He can now take care of himself, already knows how to take a bath by himself. He can now brush his own teeth. He can now turn on the PC and play online games. As of writing this, he is upstairs playing PS2. Last Saturday hubby and Chico and me went out and forgot to say bye bye to him, he never cares anymore. Gone were the days where he would cry so hard when he can’t see or hear me.. and back then I hate it, now I miss it. I asked him if he still loves me because he seldom kisses and embraces now, he said, he just have so many things to do, that is why.. haaay He acts beyond his age.. and I really miss my cry baby boy.. I know i could not hold on to his being a baby forever, so now I just make up to the time he remembers me. When he need or want me I stop whatever I do (OK I am trying..) and attend to his needs. Babies.. they grow up so fast..

My best friend Glady’s wedding, he was one of the bearers. I was so proud of him! He walk by the altar all by himself and he was the cutest and bravest bearer I have seen.
