Growing Up With Mega Bloks

When you ask me what’s the best toy for kids, my answer would be, building blocks.. I love these toys, very educational and really helps in terms of imagination and dexterity. My brand would always be Mega Bloks.. the durability of this brand has been tested. I bought our first set before my first born turns one and up until now the set is still alive and in very good condition.

I collected more than 4 boxes of these toys over the years, we have Mega Bloks Maxi, Mega Bloks Tiny and Tuff, Mega Bloks Block Buddies, I even have Mega Blocks that can be considered rare pieces such as the boat collection and the monsters collection.

We have more than a thousands of this blocks, more than a hundred of character blocks ranging from princess to animals. And yes I even bought Mega Bloks CAT for Chico. Early this year we moved on from Maxi to Mini.. To say our family loves Mega Bloks is an understatement (in fact it was one of the first thing that I saved when the water started to raise during Ondoy).. so when I receive some Mega Bloks toys for review yesterday, it didn’t took me a while to start drafting my review and post a detailed one πŸ™‚

Let’s start with familiarizing ourselves (er I mean to those who are not familiar with it) with the Mega Bloks. Basically, in terms of building blocks, it has 3 stages. The Maxi, the largest blocks and also suitable for babies ages 1-3 years old. The next one is Mega Bloks Mini, a smaller one and appropriate for kids ages 3 and up. Mega Bloks Micro is the smallest and ideal for children ages 4 and up.

Β

Β This is a Mega Bloks Maxi in a bag.. if I remember correctly, this was also called the larger than life blocks as the kid can build a “robot’ larger than him using the blocks in this bag. It contains 80 blocks in different colors and size.. here we classify it as long, single, double or triple πŸ™‚ It also includes 2 special slide which can be used as the feet of the robot (as shown on the photo) or can also be used as slide on the parking lot.. that’s how my kid used this kind of block.

As you can see, the boys had so much fun playing with Mega Bloks Maxi. The photo was taken a few months ago.

The one above is Mega Bloks Blok Town (hmm seems like Tiny and Tuff of Maxi eh?).. this is compatible for Mega Bloks Mini, which we also have a box full of it ( as you can see on the photo below.. the blue box beside Sati). The box includes 22 pcs of blocks that you can create to make a police station and a police car. It says in the box that it is ideal for kids ages 3 and up but even my 2 year old girl can’t get enough of it.

This is actually my first time to encounter Blok Town and from the looks of it, I think this will be on my list coming this December. The policeman included is so adorable! and I bet all the characters on other Blok Town set is as adorable as the policeman.

The last one is Mega Bloks micro.. a set of building blocks ideal for 4 and up kids. I haven’t bought any of this kind of blocks yet since the parts are a bit small, risky for Chico and Sati. I promised the kids that when Sati turns four, I will start buying Mega Bloks Micro.. yep I am that loyal to that brand. Trust me, it’s worth to invest on this kind of toys.

And for the purpose of comparison, I present to you Mega Bloks Maxi (red), Mini (green) and Micro (blue)..

Β You can buy any of these Mega Bloks from any leading toy store such as Toys R Us or Toy Kingdom.

Oh did I say I highly recommend this product?!? you bet I am!

I remember when my son, Matthew was still a little boy, we’re also fans of Mega Bloks…He has three kinds at that time which were handed down to my nephew, Timmy, 3 years ago, until now the blocks are still being played by the little boy…matibay talaga!

My daughter is 2.5 years old and she enjoyed playing with Mega Bloks now. Unlike before when she was a bit younger, she just ignored it.

Can you usefully mix Maxi with Mini?
We have tons of Maxi and now starting on Mini (and/or Lego Duplo which is compatible). We can connect Maxi on top of 2×2 Mini but it’d be much more fun to build a big base from Maxi and put some Minis on top. But I haven’t seen any parts that would allow that πŸ™
