What Kind Of Parent Are You? Crunchy or Silky?

In my blog hopping activity, I encountered these two words: crunchy and silky. Well, these two words are the big thing when it comes to parenting styles. There are 4 styles of parenting; Authoritarian Parenting, Authoritative Parenting, Permissive Parenting, Uninvolved Parenting and you can read more about it HERE. And based on that link, I would like to believe that my parenting style isย Authoritative Parenting:

Like authoritarian parents, those with an authoritative parenting style establish rules and guidelines that their children are expected to follow. However, this parenting style is much more democratic. Authoritative parents are responsive to their children and willing to listen to questions. When children fail to meet the expectations, these parents are more nurturing and forgiving rather than punishing. Baumrind suggests that these parents “monitor and impart clear standards for their childrenโ€™s conduct. They are assertive, but not intrusive and restrictive. Their disciplinary methods are supportive, rather than punitive. They want their children to be assertive as well as socially responsible, and self-regulated as well as cooperative” (1991).

So where does being a crunchy or silky parent falls? Er, honestly, I have no idea! Well, based on this QUIZ, I am 70% silky, does it make make me a better mom? or a bad mom?

And still based on that quiz ย and this one, here’s my conclusion on what crunchy and silky parenting are:

Crunchy Vs Silky

I am a little crunchy because I breastfed my kids, actually still breastfeeding my youngest. We co-sleep and I baby wear. I think the result is very accurate, yes, I am more of a silky mom. I can’t leave the house without makeup! hahaha and I can’t live without disposable diapers. Another thing, I can’t live without contraceptives, because if I don’t use one, I’ll end having more kids than I can handle. We’re too compatible that even a touch from husband will make me pregnant! wahaha In all honesty, I do have high respect for people who were able to maintain being crunchy, that takes a lot time! And I have high respect for people who are silky mom like me. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter at all, crunchy and silky are just labels. In the end, it’s all about you and how happy and contented you are as a mom, of course happiness and contentment of your kids follows.

But I know, it’s fun to see what kind of mom you are no? So go ahead take the quiz but never let that label define you ๐Ÿ™‚ Crunchy or Silky, I am sure, for your kids, you’re the BEST MOM in the world. Cheers to us all moms!

I am in between Sis ๐Ÿ™‚ I nursed my two babies, used disposable diapers, pills, co-sleep, circumcise. I do not wear make-up ๐Ÿ™‚ This is a very cool topic to learn and reflect as well ๐Ÿ™‚ Whatever we do, we have to train our kids the best tools so when they grow up, they will learn and follow our examples ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m about 50/50, but I HATE the idea that one can’t be in favor of vaccinations because one is “crunchy.” I know plenty of crunchy moms who absolutely vax.

I am definitely a silky parent. I don’t think I could have used cloth diapers and circumsizing was just the norm back then.

I’ll have to look into it to see what kind of parent I am. I would think I am someplace in the middle without going to extreme to the left or right ๐Ÿ™‚

Oooh oooh oooh! I love these conversations! I’m organic (as much as feasible). I nurse. I’d wear my baby son if he wasn’t so squirmy. I had a waterbirth… But I have interest in cleaning poop-ie diapers. =)

I would have to say silky, but that was 25 years ago. I think I forgot a few things along the way.

What a fun quiz. I have taken part in many personality quizzes and I am always surprised how accurate they are. I’ll give this a shot too, I may surprise myself!

I was 50/50 lol my total “silky” score was 60% and it said I was a good half and half. We eat organic, mainly because we have food allergies. I did use disposable diapers because well- it was just easier. I did use formula on my kids but it is was for medical reasons (I nursed my son for 6 months then had to start pumping and alternating) and the whole carrying the kid thing wasn’t a big to do when my kids were babies lol.

I got “65% silky”! I really took the quiz before commenting here. Based on your Crunchy vs. Silky, I am a little crunchy too! I breastfed my son from 3rd until before he turned 1. I did not exclusively breastfed him because my milk supply was not enough. I mean, my baby will starve if I will not bottlefeed him. I also used cloth diapers, the traditional lampin. I used it on my little boy for about 6 months then I used disposable diapers until now that he is 25 months.
