10 Things You Need To Know When Buying A Mattress

What’s your favorite part of your house? Well, except for the bathroom where all great ideas are conceptualized and the kitchen where all the energy(FOOD!) needed to make those ideas come true.. what? BEDROOM? specifically the BED right? Don’t tell otherwise. Don’t we all love to sleep? Don’t we all love to spend a few more minutes in our bed? Hey, we spend at least 1/4 of our life on bed (1/3 on my part teehee) and it just makes sense that we need to be more meticulous in choosing the right mattress. So before you spend your hard earned 13th month pay on a mattress, here’s 10 Things You Need To Know When Buying A Mattress:

1. Importance of Sleep

As an adult, we know how grumpy we can get if we lack sleep. But do you know how lack of sleep affects your child? Lack of sleep can sometimes be attributed to the condition of the bed or the mattress. Knowing the importance of sleep  will made you realize that spending on a good mattress is an investment.

2. Size of Mattress

Mattress sizes are usually referred as singe, double, full, queen and king. Their sizes differs on the width, while the length are all the same except for the King be. Size are in inches:

  • Single  36 x 75
  • Double 48 x 75
  • Full 54 x 75
  • Queen 60 x 75
  • King 72 x 78

For taller persons, California- King is the perfect option, it’s size is a 72” x 84′.

Note: Measure your space before deciding which size to buy.

3. Thickness of Mattress

Mattress thickness can go from 4 inches up to 20 inches. Ideally, or the size that gives the most comfort is size 10 and up. You have to remember though, the thicker the mattress, the heavier it is, the more stress it has on your bed frame.

4. Kinds of Mattress

The most popular kinds of mattress are spring type and foam type. Spring types are made of steel coil springs and upholstered layer. Foam mattress are made of Latex rubber foams or visco-elastic foams (memory foams). Which is better?

Based on my experience? Foam Mattress is better, the only con I can think of is the price. Choosing which foam to buy, latex or memory, solely depends on what kind of comfort you are looking for.

5. Comfort Index

You’re lucky if you chanced upon a mattress comfort scale when you buy a mattress. This is a software used to see which mattress offers you the most comfort. In Uratex My Home Event held at SM Megamall a few weeks ago, I was lucky to try a comfort index scale.

I tried 3 Uratex mattresses: Hamptons Royale, Hamptons Mystique and Hamptons Elite. I was asked to try out the 3 beds in different lying positions. On my back and on the side. Based on the result, the best bed for me, or the one that offers the most comfort is Hamptons Royale.

6. Mattress Price

Knowing how much comfort Hamptons Royale can give me, I can say that the price no longer matter now. But of course, budgeting is not that easy. To help you budget your money, check out mattress prices at Uratex Website.

7. Mattress Warranty

Another thing you need to know is the warranty of the mattress you are going to buy. Other mattress has 5 year warranty, while Hamptons Royale has 15 years warranty. The warranty usually comes free with the purchase.

8. Where to buy mattress

It would be more convenient to shop online, but when it comes to mattress, it is still best to buy it personally. In this case, you can try out the mattress before deciding, They say that you should lie down for 15-120 minutes to get a feel of the mattress.

Also take into account the exclusivity of the product, for example, Uratex Hapmtons line is only available at  SM Our Home stores.

9. Discounts and Freebies

Who does not like discounts and freebies? Make sure to ask for discounts or freebies before buying or Like the Uratex Facebook Page to get updates on their sales and promos.

10. Pillows

Some people does not like sleeping with pillows but most can’t sleep with pillows, if you are buying a good quality mattress, also invest on a good quality pillow like the Uratex Soft Escape Pillow

 

BONUS: If you have a small house, I reccommend buying a sofa bed instead. Sofa bed can act both as your bed and your sofa when friends come to visit

  29. My wife and I were thinking of buying a new bed before Christmas. We dropped the idea a few days ago to control the budget. Seeing your post however ignited my “pushy” self to purchase one again. It was my wife who called me pushy as i literally pushed her in buying a bed. We will have it delivered bed next week.

  62. All I can say about URATEX is they have excellent after sales service 🙂 first mattress namin and still we are using is around 8 years old na (queen size). We need to have it fixed kasi yung back part nasira. Unfortunately, we lost the receipt when we bought the mattress (need kc nila for proof), i called the Uratex Cebu Office regarding my concern, Agad agad pumunta sa bahay the next day, ang saya ng mama ko kc they dont need the receipt anymore, ung nakita nila na uratex ung brand, deretcho kuha ng bed and after 2 days, ayos nah! 🙂

  66. I also use uratex mattress in my bedroom and i totally recommend it to others. Aside from it is very comfy, it’s also very durable that i’m using mine for like 10 years or more.

  71. we have been opting to buy a sofa bed because we plan to rent in a small apartment soon. People say Uratex is indeed a good brand unlike other cheap sofa beds that becomes deformed after a few months of usage. Maybe after a few years, we’ll invest in a bigger Uratex bed.   74. Kailangan talaga na mag-invest ka sa mattress at pillow para mahimbing ang tulog at masarap ang gising sa umaga na hindi sumasakit ang likod, so this is really helpful kasi hindi ok sakin ang simpleng foam lang dahil sumasakit ang likod ko pag gising ng umaga.
