5 Steps To Preparing For a Kitchen Renovation

Preparing for a major renovation can cause stress and take a great deal of time. With proper and thoughtful planning, you can eliminate a lot of these woes by slowly thinking things through, discussing ideas with family members who most often use the space that is being updated, and employing knowledgeable professionals to help with the process if you are not an expert yourself. This article will help identify some steps to help you in preparing for a kitchen renovation.

  1. Get supplies together that you will be using during the project and clean out all unnecessary items that you will not need to access. For example, it is a great idea to clear out your cupboards and pack up holiday dishes and decorative items. It is unlikely that you will need these items during your renovation. By keeping the area you will be working in clear of unnecessary clutter and random items, you will be less likely to break something and you can work more efficiently in the space.
  2. Set aside things you do not use anymore. Consider donating these items, storing them in the basement or attic, or selling them on second-hand websites or in local consignment shops. By cleaning out items that you no longer want, you can make room for new items or organize the things you currently have.
  3. If you are replacing items in your kitchen such as appliances or cabinetry. It is important to do your research. For example, if you are replacing your cabinets, be sure to check out the best kitchen cabinets in Vancouver for the latest in styles and trends that may enhance your space. If you are going to replace your cabinets, be sure to carefully pack up your items and label the boxes accordingly. Another helpful tip is to group all like items together. For example, if you are boxing up dishes, putting an entire set of plates together is a great idea as opposed to packing plates, cups, silverware, or other items in the box. Staying organized will help you find things later on.
  4. Protect pets from the work area. Often times pets are used to going into the kitchen to access their food and water bowls. Before you begin your project, move the food and water bowls to another area in the house so that your pets can get used to this. By showing them a new routine before you begin to renovate, you can eliminate potential problems or worse, possible injuries from occurring.
  5. Create a temporary kitchen space. It is common for people to congregate in the kitchen and socialize, eat, or work on other tasks. Because so much happens in a kitchen, it is a good idea to discuss ideas with your family about how to create a temporary space in which these types of activities can commence. It is probably unrealistic to expect your family to eat out every night, so consider where you will create a small kitchenette area where they can heat up something in the microwave or make a cup of coffee.

By planning ahead, you will make the renovation process run smoothly and you will decrease the amount of stress that the project could cause on your household.

10 Back-To-School Tipid Tips

A few days ago, I had my first ever radio guesting! And not just on radio but DZMM’s teleradyo. I had the chance to share some Back-To-School Tipid Tips on DZMM’s SAKTO show.

DZMM Sakto is a magazine talk show hosted by Amy Perez and Marc Logan. The show talks about latest topics and hottest issues, family matters, and interesting human stories. Family matters like tipid tips and because malapit na mag back-to-school, SAKTO featured me for some back-to-school tips.

Thank you for my TBDM Mommy Club for this photo! The best talaga ang mommy group na ito!???

Here’s a video of my guesting from DZMM Youtube Channel:

Bitin yung video eh, may pabati portion pa yan for my kids. And I also mentioned a few more tips. I can’t remember though kung ilan nabanggit ko. Let’s close the number to 10 para mas sakto.

10 Back-To-School Tipid Tips From A Mom of 4 Students:

  1. Make a list of the things you need to buy. I always start my tips with a list. Make a list. It’s the most crucial part of planning. Ask your school for the list of items that your kids need. Also take into consideration other stuff aside from school supplies. Bag? Shoes?
  2. You don’t have to buy it all. Recycle! Check your kids’ notebooks, meron pa ba? pagsasamahin mo yung walang sulat and use their diary or journal. Pwede rin “drawing notebook” o kaya naman “scratch notebook”. Even with bags, uniforms, shoes, and socks, you don’t have to buy new sets every year.
  3. Uniform tipid tip. I always buy a size higher/ bigger or longer for my kids. Nilulupi ko na lang muna and then next year pag tumangkad na sila, tatastasin na lang. Also, from my experience, it is best to buy uniform for the whole week.
  4. School shoes tipid tip. Buy a brand that would last at least for a year. Always ask your mommy friends which brands ang tested na nila. Also look for the soles, dapat nakatahi yan at hindi nakadikit lang. Don’t indulge too much naman, 1000-1500 Pesos is good enough. After a year naman lalaki din ang paa.
  5. School socks tipid tip. Buy a brand with quality din. Stretchable ang socks, so pang matagalan talaga sya, siguro it can last up to 3 school year. Buy 6 pairs at least. Better if same color para mas tipid sa paglalaba.
  6. School Bags tipid tip. When it comes to knowing what school bag to buy, you have to trust me. I already bought a few to know which one can last long enough. A usual budget for a school trolley bag is 3000-4000 PhP. It’s not a small amount but it’s worth it. Trolley bags at this amount can last for more than 5 years.
  7. Buy in bulk. Buy in boxes too. Buy bond papers in ream. Buy pencils in boxes. Buy permanent marker in boxes. Even ball pens, buy in boxes too. This also applies in pad papers. Based on expereince, these 5 school supplies are the hottest, aka, laging nawawala!
  8. Buy twistable crayons. Notices how I did not include crayons on the “hottest” list? Mommy Levy mentioned that twistable crayons is better dahil hindi madali maputol. Hindi rin walain kase medyo malaki sya. Mas mahal nga lang but in the long run, mas sulit na din.
  9. Use self adhesive plastic cover for books. This is the best invention ever! Last year, I discovered this magic and I am never gonna use other kinds of plastic cover again. The self adhesive plastic cover makes it easier to cover books, less time pa!
  10. Buy in one-stop-shop for all school related merchandise. Ito ang pinaka effective na tipid tip sa lahat. Kung bibili ka din naman ng sapatos, bag at school supplies, look for a mall/shop that offers it all, like SM Stationery. Makakatipid kase isang labasan na lang, isang lakaran na lang. Makakatipid ka na sa oras, makakatipid ka pa sa pamasahe/ pang gas at pati na rin sa pagkain.

And if you are going to buy school supplies in bulk, here’s a smart move that I am going to share with you.. this year ko pa lang ito gagawin eh. Pay for the school supplies in retail! So kung kailangan ng pad paper, bayaran mo in retail price yung kukunin mo sa stock mo. O di ba, naibalik mo na yung pinambili mo, tumubo ka pa which you can use pandagdag sa school supplies nila next year.

5 Things That Make A Mattress Fantastic

A good bed and a good pair of shoes are vital, because you are either in one or the other. You might have heard about this proverbs before. This makes sense. Most of us tend to splurge on gadgets, video games, and other stuff that bring us pleasure but do not spend much on a comfortable bed or a decent pair of shoes.

Today we will put more emphasis on beds. Sleeping on a bad mattress comes with loads of health side effects. Aside from back pain and joint soreness, sleeping on a bad mattress has been linked to a weak immune system, lung and throat irritation, premature aging, and reduced libido. All of these can happen when your mattress is preventing you from getting quality sleep every night.

The solution is to invest in a quality mattress. What’s a quality mattress, you ask? Here are five things to look for when buying a new mattress.

  1. The mattress should provide overall comfort while you sleep. In order for your shoulder and hips to sink in slightly, it matters that the mattress is not too firm and not too soft. Since we are talking about comfort, let me share with you this latest discovery. I recently found a mattress that uses a Hyper-Elastic Polymer as their material. The result is a super-soft comfortable feel while providing the much-needed support for your back. Check out this great review by Trish at SleepDelivered.com for more details about this bed!
  2. It has sufficient back support. Don’t go for beds that have too much sinkage because they reduce back support. On the other side, avoid mattresses that do not have sinkage at all because they have the tendency to create pressure points, a bad thing for your shoulder and hips.
  3. It should not be prone to permanent indentation. Memory foam is meant to adjust to body heat but it also tends to hold heat which is not a good thing at all. Besides that, they are also susceptible to permanent notches.
  4. It has a strong edge support. By definition, edge support refers to the encasement around the frame that spring mattresses require to support the springs. Your bed has the tendency to collapse all of a sudden if it has poor edge support.
  5. It is durable enough to last for years. On average, a mattress lifespan should be at least eight years. Never settle for lower priced mattresses because more often than not, they are made up of synthetic foams that may cause you to suffer more back pain.

Sleep wellness is a cornerstone of health. We spend as much as one-third of our life sleeping that is why it only matters that we put more consideration into finding the best mattress. A bed is an investment but that does not mean that a great night of sleep has to be very expensive. Take note that you can score high-quality mattresses at a budget-friendly price tag. Just avoid mattresses that have bargain prices because they are usually made up of inferior materials.
