The Challenges of Raising Multi-Achievers

Sometimes I question myself why I always put my life on hold every exam week. You’d hear me saying no to events, to meet ups, to almost anything I can say no to because it’s EXAM WEEK. Even the laundry suffers. Actually, it’s not just during Exam weeks.. even when they need to perform in a school program or when one of the boys will compete in sports.. I just have to stop whatever it is that I am doing and be there for them. And most of the times, it’s stressful for me. I have little sleep and more wrinkles!

But even before I finish questioning myself, I already know the answer. I have multi- achiever kids. I have FOUR Multi-Achievers. They have potentials and it’s my responsibility to enhance their potentials. Exam weeks and school programs are only a part of enhancing their potentials. Daily, it can be quite challenging. They are very curious and they won’t stop until they get an answer. They’re full of energy and they all have different personalities! As I have said, it is my responsibility, so I face these challenges easily using some of these:

1. Keep them busy

A child with multiple intelligence is a child with a very busy mind, make that 4 children. So to keep them busy, we make arts, we do some reading, watch series together and discuss theories. Our recent art works was for Valentine’s Day where we only used heart cut outs (check our finished product here: Activities for Valentine’s Day).

Kids love gadgets, I cannot deny that fact. And I have learned how to make it my ally instead of my enemy. They can only use their gadgets after giving me some passwords. Passwords are words (usually 5) starting in the same letter, and each is used in a sentence. Only one word for Sati and 3 words for Chico.

2. Let them answer their questions

I can’t remember the most bizarre question my kids had asked me. I was never caught off guard because I always return the question to them. It’s the most effective way of knowing what your kids think and how to answer them properly. Questions like “How babies are made?” were answered with “How do you think babies are made?”

We don’t give them answers, we ask them to think and look for answers. It encourages them how to think analytically.

3. Chanel their energies

Is it just my kids or yours too? because as the clock strikes 5 PM, they’re a bunch of movers! This is the pick of their adrenaline rush (it’s kinda exaggerated but that’s how it is during this time). Stopping them is not the answer because 5 minutes after, they’d be doing whatever it is they’re doing again. The best way to deal with this? Chanel their energies through dancing or singing or running or a simple game of tickling (which sometimes turns into wrestling). It also helps me lose weight!

4. Be one of them

As I have mentioned, I have 4 kids with different personalities. My oldest is 11 and youngest is 5, so just imagine how broad their interests are. Luckily, all 3 boys love Nerf, The Flash and Agents of SHIELD while the little girl loves watching Youtube videos of Barbie and Peppa Pig. So to keep our afternoons or mornings or long drives more interesting, we have discussions about the possibilities of time travel and earthquakes. Sometimes, we play pretend on who’s Barbie and who’s going to be Chelsea.

5.Equip them with proper nutrients

To help them build their multiple intelligence, I also give them proper food and Progress Pre-School Gold as milk supplement.

I have learned so far, when it comes to my kids and their achievements, they do better when they see or feel our support for them. They do better when they hear encouragements from us. They think more when you given the chance to think. And they are more confident when they know that we trust them.

Sooo how was their exams? I am more than proud with their brain smart achievements.. more kwento after their recognition! It will be FUN! Promise!

So many blogs.. so little time. I don’t have the time in the world to check my favorite blogs everyday.. so thank goodness for email subscription, I am notified every time my fave blogs published a post.

But not all blogs have email subscription widget/link displayed on their blog. I WANT TO BE NOTIFIED!! Can you not put a link where I can type in my email to subscribe to your blog?!?

You don’t know how to? QUICK TUTORIAL! This is really easy. Setting up a email subscription with Feedburner Tutorial:

Step 1. Log in to your gmail account and go to: http://feedburner.google.com/

Step 2. Burn a feed

After this step, you’ll be asked to choose your source, choose the one without the comments feed:

Step 3. Name your Feed and Feed Address:

Step 3. Tweak your Feedburner Stats:

Step 4. Activate Email Subscription: Go to Publicize>> Email Subscription>> ACTIVATE

Step 5. Manage Your Subscription: Click Subscription Management under Email Subscription.

Lay out>> Add a gadget>> Follow by Email >> Put your Feedburner URL

40 Things We Love At Shakey’s!

Because Shakey’s will be celebrating their 40th on March 15, I came up with 40 things we love at Shakey’s! Happy 40th Birthday Shakey’s!!!!

1. Trip down memory lane.. 40 years? That’s a lot of years and a lot of memories too! The husband says they usually hang out at Shakey’s because of the live bands (and beers!) as for me, Shakey’s is the first pizza I tasted.. and the taste is still the same! Every bite brings me back to my first Shakey’s experience.

2. Thin Crust Pizza! It’s the only pizza that’s guilt free.. you can eat 3 to 4 slices without thinking about the carbs.. because it’s thin crust!

3. Manager’s Choice Pizza. The IT Pizza.. nothing comes close to that pizza experience while eating a slice (or 4!) of Manager’s Choice Pizza.

4. Shakey’s Giant Pizza! Giant Pizza that can even satisfy my superheroes appetite!

5. Shakey’s Grand Slam Pizza. And we can opt for a smaller one if we’re not on our superhero mode. Shakey’s Grand Slam Pizza is 18 inches.

6. The Chicken. It has a very distinct taste, paired with its gravy, extra rice please!

7. And the Mojos too!

8. Shakey’s Carbonora… our favorite pasta from Shakey’s. It’s creamy and generous on the ingredients (mushroom and bacon). It’s delicious and comforting, hot or cold, Shakey’s carbonara is the best. Argh! Now I am craving for a platter!

9. Buffalo Wings and the sauce. A recent discovery. We usually order Chicken but from a Shakey’s event I attended, I got the chance to taste their buffalo wings… the next thing I knew, my kids can’t get enough of it! As for me, I fell in love with the sauce. Yum! Yum! Yum!

10. Salad, because they use my favorite salad vegetables, romaine lettuce.

11. Wings ´N Rings combo. It’s the perfect movie time finger food (even better than popcorn! haha)

13. Garlic bread.. Sati loves garlic bread and either we give her our share or we have to order another basket.

14. Ice cream or anything on their dessert menu.

15. Bunch of lunch Wholesome Combo. When I’m alone and and still want to eat at Shakey’s, this combo is the answer. Bunch of lunch combo includes Chicken, Spaghetti, Garlic Bread, a slice of Hawaiian Delight Hand-Tossed Pizza and Mojos for only 188 PhP.

16. Monster Meal Deal. Perfect meryenda package when we have company.. like when my oldest son brings half of his classroom at home (or when we have a simple birthday party). Monster Meal Deal includes 2 Large crisp brick-oven-baked pizza: Manager`s Choice and Pepperoni Thin Crust; 2 platters of rich and flavourful pasta: Classic Spaghetti & Carbonara Supreme; 1 awesome twosome 12 pieces Chicken `n` mojos Party Pack; 3 Pitchers of ice cold Coke. Price: PHP 2,583.00

17. Grand Slammin’ Deal is another favorite, specially when we’re craving for different pizza flavor. This deal includes 18´´ Grand Slam Pizza w/ 4 flavors, Mojos Supreme, 7pcs. Chicken, 2 1.5L of coke. Price: PHP 1,700.00

18. Interiors. One reason why we love dinning at Shakey’s is their interiors. You can enjoy eating without thinking if you’re on the way of another customer. They planned their sitting very well.

19. Parking Space. and if the interior is good, well their exterior is the same specially the parking area. If you have noticed, Shakey’s restaurant has an ample parking space.

20. Branches. With over 100++ branches, we can always have our favorite pizza and buffalo wings (and carbonara and so on) wherever we go. They have branch in Cabanatuan City, in Baguio, in La Union and in Tagaytay. These are the places that we visit often.

21. Function rooms for parties.

22. Shakey’s Party Packages. Food packages for 2000+ PhP for 10 persons (includes pizza, pasta, chicken and drinks) and kiddie package meal for as low as 160 PhP. Shakey’s Party Package is one of the cheapest and most sulit package for a party!

23. Shakey’s Party Themes. The last time I checked they have Justice League Party theme but you’ll never know, they might add something new this year as they celebrate their 40th!

24. Buffet Set up on party. This is the most practical set up for me. I do not like the idea of giving each table plated meal as not everyone can consume the same amount of food. With buffet set up, guests can get another servingfreely (or less if on diet.. does this word exist with Shakey’s? NO!).

25. Shakey’s Fun Zone. And this I only got to know during the Justice League Party event we attended. Although not all branches have Fun Zone, some branches will do for a while.

26. Free coins on party. If I am not mistaken, when you book a party on a branch with Fun Zone (and order a giant pizza) you’ll get free Fun Zone coins! Hurrah for more play time!

27. Shakey’s friendly crews.. need I say more?

28. Bar. If some branches have fun zone, some branches have a bar. Katipunan branch has it all. Shakey’s bar offers beer and liquors (I only got to know during the round table discussion we attended).. It makes me think of a Friday date night with the husband.. obviously, without the kids.

30. Order Online. And because we don’t have a landline phone, online ordering is my best friend.

31. Shakey’s Mobile App. I once tried ordering online from my mobile phone through their website.. it was such a hassle.. now I am really thankful for the new mobile app. Ordering is easy and the interface is friendly. Shakey’s Mobile App is available for Android and iOS.

32. Paypal Option. Now this is the best part of Shakey’s Online Ordering.. they accept PAYPAL!!!! woohooo All online workers unite!

33. Send a Shakey’s. And another online ordering feature that we love. We can send some love to our family in Nueva Ecija through this!

34. Shakey’s Delivery Policy: If it’s LATE, It’s FREE!

35. SHAKEY’S PIZZANATIC SUPERCARD. It’s more than just a loyalty card and discount card. Loyalty card gives you points, discount card gives you discounts… Shakey’s Supercard gives us FREE PIZZA! The Shakey´s Pizzanatic SuperCard costs Php 299 only.

36. They invite us to their events. I can’t deny it.. it makes us feel closer to Shakey’s. And their events are fun and food is overflowing.

37. Shakey’s Countdown to 40 Scratch Card Promo (and other past promo). It makes us feel that they really give back to us, their costumers.
