Rediscover Reese’s: Throwback Festival Event

So, the husband will be out of the country again, for the nth time this year. I lost count of his trips this year..dumalas eh.. kaso who am I to complain? eh that’s part of his job. The only consolation for us, Duty Free shopping! CHOCOLATES!!! Reese’s specifically. I call that, blockbuster chocolate. Eh kase naman, magdala ka dito ng isang box, after 2 minutes, kagit ung box, ubos na.. Reese’s lang ang bagay na napapagkasunduan (at madalas pag- awayan) ng mga anak ko at mga kapatid ko hahaha.

I don’t know why, all these years, I thought I can only buy Reese’s at Duty Free…well not until I got an invite from Reese’s event and got to see a shelf full of Reese’s in our fave grocery.. Ignorante much? Eto pa ang isa.. akala ko it was pronounced as Reese as in Ris.. hindi pala.. eto pala ay Reese’s as in Rees-IS.

So many things to discover about our favorite chocolate. Actually, that’s the theme of their event: REDISCOVER REESE’S (Throwback Festival):

Festival? Indeed it is! The event was open to public.. yup, like your typical fiesta.. and of course it comes with games!!!

Taste that perfectly balanced sweet and salty flavor of Reese’s peanut butter cups at the Reese’s Shoot that Cup booth, where the challenge is to shoot Reese’s wrappings into the right cups.

Other exciting games, which I never had the chance to try.. SAYAAAAANG!!!!!

  • Take the Reese’s booth:  attendees will be challenged to jump as high as they can
  • Reese’s Re-word Mash is Reese’s take on the all-time favorite Word Mash game
  • Knock Out a Reese’s Cup, a ball throwing booth (a must in every fair!)
  • Reese’s Throwback Wall
  • Pop A Nut Bar
  • Reese’s Trick Art

The Reese’s Throwback Wall is all about…. REESE’S of course!

Mommy Pehpot’s #RediscoverReeses version: Did you know that Reese’s is the #1 chocolate brand in my household? Based on the total number of boxes that my kids can consume in 5 minutes.

Aside from the booths mentioned, the fair featured Reese’s infused snacks from Mrs. Fields and other food partners. Reese’s also  treated their guests with the infectious beat of the biggest hits of top local bands Itchyworms and Never the Strangers.

Sana Reese’s will have another event like this.. at sana dito naman sa may Pasig area (like Megamall haha)

soo, who loves Reese’s? Say it with me: REES-IS!

Movie Review: Moms’ Night Out

Two FB friends tagged me while they were watching this movie. The first one, high school friend, we haven’t seen each other for a long time.. so it’s quite amusing that she remembers me on a movie about mom. NO? oo nga pala, I am a mom! But! there are so many movies about mom.. what makes this movie special? The second one, my sister. OK fine, Imma watch it na!

First impression: Oh, here’s another mommy movie tackling the lack of socialization of mommies… hopefully not another movie romanticizing mom’s sacrifice because, well, she is a mom.

Wikipedia almost confirmed my first impression:

Feeling overworked by her children, mother of three Allyson decides to go on a moms’ night out with her friends, Izzy and Sondra. The three expect a night to unwind while Allyson’s husband, Sean, takes care of all the kids. After their reservation is canceled things go from bad to worse when Allyson’s sister-in-law, Bridget, realizes that her infant son, Phoenix, is missing. The four travel across the city looking for the child and ultimately learning to quit blaming others for their own problems. While all this is going on, their husbands attempt to care for the children with disastrous results.

ALMOST. As soon as I started watching it, any apprehensions about this movie went away.

It was funny, heartwarming and most of all very relatable!

This. Sometimes, that is me too… they’re driving, husband and wife talking, one of the kids started calling mom. mom. mom. mom

In ours, me and husband talks, 4 out of 4 kids starts saying something.. and I was like WHOAAAAA!!! I only have 2 ears! And I can only process one voice! Get your appointment! OK, child number 4, you first!

I can relate to Allyson’s distracted moments.. that’s how I blog too.. oh yes! She’s a mommy blogger! Another thing that I can relate! And the fact that we’re both member of Pyramid of Codependency:

I have 4 kids though, Allyson only has 3.. which reminds me, a mommy blogger friend mentioned (who also have 3 kids) that this movie is her life story.. made me look back when I only have 3.. SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Having 3 kids was the hardest, ngaragest and my ugliest (face) moment in my life. I am so full of shit and disappointments back then. It feels like I am not enough.. that I fail in every aspect of being a mom. All those, disappeared when I got 4. I think the reason why is with 4 kids, I finally accepted I can’t do it all.. and that I really need help! Three kids, it’s a handful but my pride kept me from getting a helper then. I feel like I can do it all. I’m a super mom! NOT!

Now with 4 kids, I am at peace with my self. I still have “I am not enough” moment but I know now not to be too harsh on me. And to forgive me when things didn’t go exactly as planned. I have a helper too! I am not trying to be a super mom now, a mom who can do it all. I am just an ordinary mom, who will do anything in my powers for my kids (sorry! I have to add that to explain why I call me super mom.. because I have power! read my Super Mom page, promise, entertaining yan).

I highly recommend this movie to every mom. If you’re having doubts. feeling low, needing a night out, this movie is for you! The movies is so much more than romanticizing a mom’s job. It celebrates you, us, as an individual.

How To Take Care OF Your Liver

I know nothing about my liver. After my Kidney stones shockwave treatment (and my other kidney showing sign of kidney stones), I guess it’s about time that I worry about my other organs.

Some facts about liver:

  • Liver is part of our digestive system.
  • Liver is the biggest solid organ in our body and is considered as a gland because it secretes bile.
  • The liver is the only organ in our body that can regenerate even though a large of it has been removed.

The bile secreted by the liver is a substance needed to digest fats. Aside from that, our liver is important because it detoxify our body by breaking down toxins. It also stores some vitamins and iron and stores simple sugar and converts it when our body needs the sugar. The liver also plays a vital role in metabolism as it converts ammonia to urea which is needed in metabolism.

Liver destroys old red blood cells, the usual brown color of our fecal is the result of destruction of old red blood cells. Discoloration of fecal may be a sign that there is something wrong with our liver. Jaundice is another sign that your liver is not doing any good.

The most common liver diseases are hepatitis infection, fatty liver or damaged brought about by alcohol abuse.

And though  our liver can regenerate even though a large of it has been removed, it does not mean that we should not take care of our liver. Who would want to undergo a liver operation? Just imagine the pain and  the cost. Here are some ways to take care of our liver:

  • Do not drink too much as too much alcohol can damage our liver in two ways: 1. when our liver tries to breakdown too much alcohol, the chemical reaction can be damaging to the cells of the liver and 2. the alcohol damage the intestine which may allow bacteria to get into our liver.
  • Stay away from fatty food and exercise daily. Since our liver produces bile to digest fats, more fats means more bile production which means overworked liver (they need to rest too, you know).
  • Be more conscious of the medicines you take as some or incorrect dosage may lead to liver damage.
  • Drink more water as this will help your liver detoxify itself.
  • Proper hygiene also plays a vital role in making sure our liver is healthy as hepatitis infection can be passed through contaminated food, water, blood or body fluids. Make sure that you always wash your hand properly.

What will happen if our liver is damaged?

When a large part of the liver is damaged, liver failure will occur and if liver failure is severe the patient will need a liver transplant.
