Blogapalooza 2014: Mommy Bloggers’ Tips On Attending The Biggest Blog Conference in the Philippines

Call me snob or call me whatever you want to call me but I never really liked attending big blogger events. I am not comfortable mingling with soo much people.. kinda weird coming from me no? That’s true no, behind me lurks an introvert person 🙂

Another reason, most of my mommy blogger friends are my friends even offline, we hang out with or without blog events. So there is no reason to attend big events as such.

Then I met a few mommy bloggers early this year… younger generation, I suppose.. and they were all soo nicee!!! I wanna hug them all. Then Lani created Mommy Bloggers Philippines group. UH OH! Just another bloggers group. NOT! This group is one of the best bloggers’ group I joined. They welcome each other with open arms. This group is really helpful specially for newbies.

Mommy Bloggers Philippines

So when MBP members started talking about Blogapalooza and the thought of having a mini get together during the event.. na excite ako! I have to attend Blogapalooza!

What is Blogapalooza? (from website)

Blogapalooza is a community. It’s a link between big and small businesses who have something cool to share and the online community of people who love to share. Blogapalooza is a blogger event on crack! Lots of giveaways for the bloggers and online community and a chance for big and small businesses to present their product / brand / thingamajig to hundreds of influential bloggers and online social media influencers

It’s a community, obviously, it’s going to be a big event. Sign up and get a chance to meet mommy bloggers and meet business owners that can be your sponsor/ advertiser.

SIGN UP HERE If you want to attend BLOGAPALOOZA 2014 on September 20, Saturday SMX Taguig, SM Aura

This will be my first time to attend Blogapalooza (paulit ulit na first timer?!?) soo I read some posts about the 2013 event and some tips from, where else, mommy bloggers!

Alaine of MigsAndAlaine post excites me more. She listed the top 3 reason why she’s excited to attend this bloggers’ event. One of the reason, her husband became a stand-up comedian after Blogapalooza 2013 and will be performing this year! How cool is that?

Rikka’s post on Why You Shouldn’t Miss Blogapalooza 2014 mentioned a few things a blogger needs to know if attending the biggest Blog Conference in the Philippines. In the spirit (again) of list blogging, I will only list 3.

  • Bring your calling card, which I fondly call, blogging card. It should include your logo (as Rikka puts it, Hi-Resolution), full name, blog url (of course! of course!), email address and contact details.
  • Bring your own eco-bag. Rikka went home with two heavy bags filled with freebies (WOW!) that were about to tear the handle of the bags apart (seryosy girl?!?) That much freebies! Why should you bring your own bayong? That much freebies.
  • Find and event buddy, they will keep you entertained if ever the event gets boring, which I believe will never happen haha… in case you need one, find me! I’ll wear something funny LOL

Wear something funny.. a dress? gown?? now that reminds me, Vanilla Housewife mentioned about dressing appropriately on her Preparing for a Blog conference post:

  • Dress appropriately. You are representing your blog and you would want to look professional when connecting with brands and meeting other bloggers. May point di ba? SO bawal pala ako mag damit basahan. What is proffesional looking clothes? I’ll post about that in a while!
  • Introducing yourself and your blog in 3 sentences. Madami pong blogger during the event.. errr.. hindi naman siguro tama na mga isang oras ang haba ng introduction mo di ba? Maybe you can start with: “Hello, I am the best mommy blogger in the country, next to Mommy Pehpot.” may point?
  • This is the most helpful: Update your blog and social media accounts. Soooooo it’s about time to revamp your blog, like what I did!! Check out my sidebar hahaha

soooo are we seeing each other on the 20th??? tara lets!

3 Facts About Dengue Fever That You Should Know

I already mentioned once why I am so paranoid with dengue fever. We lost a love one (husband’s nephew) 3 years ago from dengue. Anything about dengue, my blog is open. So when I received an invite for a dengue fever management event, I have to attend, even if it means braving Makati (and the traffic) on FRIDAY!. It was all worth it. Anything to help raise awareness about dengue and dengue fever.

I was planning to write a lengthy article about dengue, but I did that na pala a few years back. In the spirit of list blogging (and for easy understanding and faster writing haha), I present to you FACTS about Dengue Fever that You Should Know.

1. Things you should know about Aedes aegypti:

  • Aedes aegypti is a striped mosquito (see photo above) and though usually known to bite at dusk and dawn, they can bite and spread the infection at anytime of the day, all year round.
  • Aedes aegypti life span is only 4 weeks but their egg can last for more than a year, even on dry land.
  • Aedes aegypti can transmits the virus by biting an infected person then biting another but it will take 8 days after the bite before they can transmit the virus.

2. Things you should know about Dengue Fever:

  • Dengue fever is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti
  • There are 4 types of dengue virus and being infected once does not give you immunity to this virus. A person can get infected 4x but from Dr. Gatchalian mentioned that if you got infected twice, there is little chance of being infected again.
  • Dengue fever can be cured but if left untreated, it can lead to death.
  • The only way to treat it is to manage the fever (and water therapy). The only fever management medicine for dengue is PARACETAMOL.

  • When dengue fever is suspected, go to the nearest health center or hospital for diagnosis and treatment.

3. What we can do to prevent dengue?

  • Search and Destroy. Search for stagnant water around your house since this is where Aedes aegypti breed. Destroy all the breeding grounds to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.
  • Self protection measures such as wearing longer clothes and applying insect repellent products.
  • Seek early consultaion when there is fever for more than 2 days.
  • Say NO to indiscriminate fogging. Fogging will only drive mosquitoes away, only say YES to fogging during outbreaks.

BONUS: Help save lives by spreading awareness about Dengue Fever, how to manage it and how to prevent it.
