Alphabet Chart, Number Chart and Nursery Rhymes Chart

When I said that my alphabet chart is the best alphabet chart in the world, I am not kidding.

Started last April, finally, it was conceived. As mentioned in my article about teaching ABC to your kid, the chart will function not just for alphabet familiarization but as well as a tool for phonics. And from that post, I mentioned words/ objects that I will use for the chart. My dilemma in drawing was solved by printing the letters, using clip art for the objects. I cut and paste then add a few color using crayons (oil pastel to some) and voila:

So far, the only confusion is Q where there is a duck.. I still have to explain the sound ducks made.. Row for R was tricky..same with run.. I opted for row so we can sing row row your boat..

With my alphabet chart, teaching phonics will be easier, the chart can be used for teaching how to read 3 letter words, beginning sound, middle sound and last sound.. if you noticed, all vowels were used as middle sound.. fan (jar, van) for a, bed (keg, net..) for e, pig for i, log for o, sun for u and so on..

Aside from the alphabet chart, I also made a number chart.. numbers 1-10 and numbers 11-20 (as requested by Chico):

was too excited to make this number chart that I did not consider the size of the objects used.. seems like 3 and 6 is equal..

This week, I will make colors and shapes chart, I will also make nursery rhymes poster.. this is our list so far:

  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (for shape)
  • The Ants Go Marching One by One (for letter A as well as counting)
  • Row Row Your Boat (for letter R)
  • Barney Elephant Song (for letter E)
  • Butterfly song for F
  • What the Duckies Do for QUACK QUACK
  • Wheels on the Bus for letter B
  • Bahay Kubo (for vegetables)
  • Sit Down, You’re Rocking The Boat (for Up and Down)

will also make copies of alphabet and number charts to place in our bedroom. And will also plan Chico’s curriculum and Sati’s too. Hopefully by July, we can start homeschooling and of course I will give you updates every week 🙂

Flowers In My Garden

Quick gardening update 🙂 today is laundry day, I only have few minutes to blog 🙂

While enjoying a cup of my favorite cereal drink, I always make it a point to say good morning to my plants. And it never fails to give a smile on my face whenever I see flowers blooming from my garden.. imagine mornings with this:

That’s an Okra flower..I have 3 active okra plants, flowering everyday and giving me okra fruit almost everyday.. harvest since Wednesday gave me more than ten okras, perfect for lunch today 🙂 (nilagang okra + pritong tilapia + bagoong na halubaybay with calamansi and sili!)

Aside from okra, beside my garden office/coffee corner  is a tomato plant.. I always look forward having breakfast with this:

ang hirap nya i-capture! tuwad, dapa at kung ano ano pa ang ginawa ko.. but these tiny flowers are really lovely. my photo did no justice to these flowers ahaha

The most interesting/ amazing thing happened on my garden is this:

That’s my sigarilyas and I am guessing that it will soon start to flower.. ayayay! I’m so happy when I found out.. jump for joy!

Sigarilyas is very close to my heart, my grandmother used to plant this. I remember as a child, we used to marvel at the sigarilyas vines as well as its fruit..I guess that’s another reason why sigarilyas is one of my (few) favorite vegetable.

My silis are very active too:

and starting to bear sili!!! waaaah

I am a fulfilled gardener this week!

but, I need to manage pests.. specially for my sitaw (which is strting to crawl).. someone mentioned about Marigold… where can I find those coin bearing plant?

Meeting Mr. Ube

Though I have a talent in cooking, hubby is the certified foodie. In fact, my talent in cooking was brought about his being meticulous in the food he eats. I developed the expertise through his criticisms (ilang oras mo niluto? gaano kalakas ang apoy? paano mo ginisa?) oh yes, every meal, para akong ginigisa!

And so, when it comes to great food finds, I trust him.

One afternoon, he said we’re on for a lugaw hunt.. the best lugaw, Goto sa Garahe at Santonal, Pasig.. unfortunately, the store was closed and with hungry stomachs (times 6.. we brought the kids along) we’re in hunt for another lugawan. Closer to our place was the lugawan at Floodway, Pasig.. which was not child friendly. Good thing, opposite the lugawan is Lucky Gold Plaza which houses Robinson’s supermarket, fast food chains and other interesting finds. Near the parking area was a newly opened Chinese food establishments. Being a fan of Chinese cuisine, we opted to stay there while husband gets his lugaw fix.

Lucky to find Mr Ube @ Lucky Gold Plaza!

Since it was our first time, we ordered the usual, beef wanton noodles (110 PhP), siomai(50PhP) and spring rolls(90 PhP). Then the kids noticed a small section int he restaurant that offers Chinese delicacies such as hopia, tikoy bearing the name Eng Bee Tin. The boys asked for Piyaya + their newest offering, custard hopia + moon cake + boat tarts.

Sulit naman at talagang nasarapan kami dahil every week (minsan 2x a week) nagpupunta kame kay Mr. Ube!

Later I found out, Eng Bee Tin is a established and well known store for producing and selling world- class Oriental delicacies. And the owner Mr. Chua Chiu Hong got the name Mr. Ube for being the pioneer in making Ube Hopia.

Our lates trip at Mr. Ube, I ordered Pork Kikiam as recommended by Mauie.. I was tempted to try the radish cake but I am not to sure.. siguro pag kasama si mudrabels para pag di ko type sya kakain haha..

The pork kikiam (50 PhP) was tasty and the sauce was sweet.. just the way I like my food 🙂

Siomai as usuall! all time favorite of my kids. Mr. Ube also offer frozen goods, we actually bought 2 dozens of sioamai (90 PhP per dozen, an order of siomai is 50 PhP, 5 pcs.) few days prior to our visit this week:

Buti na lang may lutuan ako ng soimai.. bought it from Divisoria for 150 PhP (kasama na takip)

I tried their Lechon Macau (110 PhP).. serving is just right for the prize but the taste exceeds my/our expectation.

Spring Rolls as usual, my first born commented on how tasty and delicious the meat inside the spring roll was.

We also tried their two bites siopao (50 PhP).. sauce is the same as the sauce on the pork kikiam. The siopao bun was perfect! This is the type of siopao bun that my husband loves.

For a family of 6, we usually spend 500-700 at Mr. Ube (kasama na ang custard hopia which usually amounts to 200 PhP). Super sulit naman.. if I will compare it to other fast food restaurant that we frequent, the price is almost the same (we usually spend 400-500 at Jollibee and McDo).. the good thing about Mr. Ube is we’re all happy with the food (hindi lang ang mga chikiting no).

And one of the many reasons why we keep going back at Mr. Ube is this:

Custard Hopia! My boys loved the original custard hopia while I prefer Custard Ube Hopia (48 PhP, 4 pcs).

I can’t wait to try the other food offerings at Mr. Ube like Lomi, Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet (bawal na daw ako umorder nito eh, kase every Mann Hann trip is sweet and sour fish fillet trip..)and Mr. Ube specialty stir fry noodles.

Nakakagutom si Mr. Ube!
