What my kids are like, and how to raise your child/children in this day and age.

Keeping My Kids Healthy This Christmas Season

And it’s been a month since we moved here.. a month already?!? Ang bilis ng araw! And though I am not quite settled yet in this mansion (mansyon mansyonan lang no), the kids are all adjusted na! Lately, they have been busy biking and active play. They have the whole block to run eh.. wala pa kameng kapitbahay kase.

Busy ang mga bagets.. which makes me worry sometimes. Ang aga na kase nila nagigising since we moved here, tapos sobrang active pa. Nag woworry ako na baka hindi maka keep up ang body nila sa activities nila, specially this this season, magbabakasyon pa.

So how to keep the kids healthy this Christmas season?

  • Provide them with the right food.

Mahirap mamilit ng bata di ba? Specially if they don’t like the food. In terms of veggies, I always take the lead (kahit ako kumakain ng gulay). I eat veggies in front of them to encourage them to eat vegetables too. In terms of junk food, I explain to them how our digestive system works and why there are kinds of food that is bad for their body. They always believe naman what I say and I make sure din naman na whatever I say is true.

TIP: Since it’s Christmas season na, medyo mura na ang grapes, oranges and apples. Be creative with these fruits. Mag imbento ka!

  •  Establish a sleeping pattern

Sleep is very important for the kids. And they all need 8 to 10 hours of sleep a day. Mahirap man, specially with my tween boys, I make it a point na nakakatulog sila everyday ng at least 8 hours.

  • Give at least 2 glasses of Milk everyday

Our pedia also stressed the need for them to drink Milk at least 2 glasses a day. Milk is a good source of calcium and it is needed by the body for strong bones.

Good thing my kids are not picky eaters anymore at madali na maka intindi when things are explained to them scientifically.

  • Supplement their diet with Vitamins

I realized that with their activities, hindi lang Vitamin C ang kailangan ng katawan nila. I checked with their Pedia and I was advised on giving them vitamin supplements that also provides Iron and B Complex. I read from an article that kids need 6 kinds of vitamins: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Calcium, Vitamin B and Iron.

I give my kids Ferlin for their Iron dahil ever since, ito na talaga yung gamit namin.

Ceelin naman is what I give my kids for their Vitamin C supplement. They love the taste at syempre, it does wonders din!

And now, mas bongga na becauase buying vitamins for my kids is more convenient. You know naman how it is with my pregnancy. It’s challenging specially physically kaya I’m always for convinient and online buying helps me lighten the load of my mommy duties. Happy to share with you that you can buy all these vitamins at 30% of from  www.heymom.com.ph.

Now, in terms of health, we are ready for Christmas!

3 Tried and Tested Ways To Encourage Your Kids To Read More

When I say tried and tested, it means we’ve tried it and found the ways very very effective.

In the first place, Why Is Reading Important?

Reading is essential to learning. Educational researchers have found a direct relationship between reading and academic success. It’s as simple as “kapag marunong magbasa ang mga anak mo, more likely, mas magiging maganda ang performance nila sa school.”

The same goes with people who does not like Math. They get along with the problems well because they can read and understands it very well.

Educational researchers also found that there is a strong relationship between reading and vocabulary knowledge. A child who has an extensive vocabulary are normally good readers. And the best way to gain a large vocabulary is to read and read and read!

Kaya naman, even though my kids are good readers na, I don’t stop in finding ways to encourage them to read more and to really love reading. Ang hiraaap! Specially now that  gadgets are here, there and everywhere. Good thing my best friend is an educator  and she’s been a big help to me. She’s been giving me readings on effective ways to encourage my kids to read more.

Here are the 3 Tried and Tested Ways To Encourage Your Kids To Read More

Read with your kids

When kids are younger, we read books to them. In some of the studies I have read, reading to your kids at an early age is very vital in introducing reading to them. But we shouldn’t stop reading to them just because they already knows how to read. I have found out, specially with my 2 younger kids, that reading to them is a treasured moment for them. I think it’s the fact that they’re sitting very close to me that made them love the idea of reading with mommy. Natutuwa talaga sila when I read to them and I noticed na sila na ang nag i- initiate ng reading time namin.

Read a book and show to your kids that you’re reading a book

This one, my friend has been telling how effective this strategy is, pero lately ko lang napatunayan na indeed it is very effective. Top of the line na payo ito mga inay, kaya sundin nyo.

Kame kase ni husband are not book readers.. or we just don’t have that much time to read a book.. mali!! We have to make time to read (or kahit pretend lang) as we noticed when we read, the kids read too! Napansin ko yan when the husband starts buying work related books and reads it.

The kids, specially my two older boys are now into books! At ngayon, they want to buy books every week! Mahaliaaaaa!

Basketball Rubber Shoes For Kids- The Playground Marikina

I have been searching where to buy basketball rubber shoes for kids. Nakita ko sa Facebook ang Kidsports Philippines, they say they carry the latest styles from Nike , Adidas, New Balance, Puma, Vans, Converse and Havaianas for the active kids. I am not into the latest styles naman (or maybe my kids are). I just want to buy them a decent and durable rubber shoes that won’t break the bank. The last basketball shoes I bought for them was years ago at hindi pa din sira, maliit na lang sa kanila. It was a Rebook rubber shoes that I bought from the US (less than 3k lang ang isa). Another kiddie rubber shoes brand na nasubukan ko na is New Balance. I bought one from Zalora at matibay din talaga, also got it for less than 3k. For me, 3000 PhP for kids rubebr shoes is fair enough, pag lumagpas pa doon, nyaaay! Mahal na yan for me!

Since Kidsports Philippines carries the latest design, it is expected that the price of the rubber shoes, specially Nike shoes ranges from 5000 PhP to 7000 PhP. Kaso, when we went to Galleria to look for their branch there, hindi namin makita. Umuwi silang lugi at sawi..part of me was wagi (sssssh hehe).

But of course, the daddy won’t stop hanggat hindi niya nabibilhan ng basketball shoes ang mga anak nya. And he managed to find one store that sells Nike shoes at discounted price! Say hello to The Playground Premium Outlet:

Location: Nodison Centre, Marcos Highway, Marikina, 1801 Metro Manila

It’s very easy to find, kaunting kembot lang from Sta Lucia Mall.

Halos puro Nike shoes ang naabutan namin kahapon. It was their last day na pala (store is closed until further notice daw.. for a bigger and better store daw.. nag uupgrade, ibig sabihin mabenta!)

Well, according to my shoe addict brother, luma na daw design kaya medyo mura… eh anong paki ko sa lumang design. I’m after the qualityyyyy and the price!

And  yes, I bought that baby Jordan shoes!

Aside from shoes, may mga Nike shirts and jackets din sila. This was screaming at m when we enter the store:

Hindi ko kinaya, binili ko na din! 50% off naman eh!

What I like about the store?

Super duper friendly and accommodating staff!

If you’re looking for Nike rubber shoes for baby, kids and adults (and bigger size too!), check out The Playground Premium Outlet in Marikina. Visit their FB Page for updates on their store opening: The Playground Premium Outlet FB Page.
