What my kids are like, and how to raise your child/children in this day and age.

Nakahinga Din! FINALLY!

Yes, Finally, nakahinga din ng maluwag.

Last Sunday, my third born was sick. It was around 4 PM when I checked on him his fever is at 38.1 C. We’re kinda paranoid, no, we’re PARANOID about it. You see, my husband’s nephew died because of dengue. It was not your ordinary dengue, his fever did not last for 3 days and there was no symptoms. Just imagine how paranoid we are over Chico’s fever. We brought him to pedia Monday morning. His fever is on and off every 6-8 hours. His lungs we’re clear, his throat is clear too and even his ears. There’s no sign of infection. Which made us more paranoid about his fever, We asked the pedia if we can have Chico tested for dengue… just to make sure you know. Good thing, there’s a dengue test now that can determine dengue at an early stage. It’s called Dengue NS1 (more to that later). The pedia issued a dengue test and cbc request and we brought Chico at Medical City after lunch.

We did not know that for a request to be honored by our HMO, it should come from a pedia that is affiliated to them. And since Chico has no fever when we brought him at TMC, we were referred to another Pedia. The pedia at TMC concluded throat infection and prescribed an antibiotic for him.. but since we were there not for a second opinion but for an NS1 and cbc request, I just told her to give us the request that we need.

To cut the story short, the Dengue NS1 result was negative. His CBC showed that his WBC are high which means his body is fighting off some bacteria or virus. Our pedia here suspected UTI so Chico has a urinalysis and the result was negative. At this point I am going crazy.. Dengue NS1 has an accuracy of 80-90 percent.. not 100%, thought the pedia explained to me that his CBC result shows no sign of dengue.. I’m still paranoid.

His fever is still the same, on and off every 8 hours.. and at 38.2- 38.7 C range. Dengue NS1 and CBC was done Monday. Tuesday was Urinalysis. I thought by Wednesday, it would be insanity test for me.. because my mind is slowly exploding with what ifs.. Around Wednesday 2 AM.. Chico has fever again. We woke up and gave meds for his fever.. at this point, I am at my most praning mode.. cried and prayed that nothing will happen to my baby boy.

By Wednesday afternoon, his fever went away..but not my worries.. we’re still not sure why and what happened to him. By Thursday, I noticed rashes on his body, arms, face, back, legs.. which made me worry more. I had to ask my husband to go home that moment and we went back to the clinic. Good thing, the older pedia was there.. (And if you happen to live in Pasig City..I highly recommend Dra Conde) She said that it was viral infection (and not bacterial so no need for antibiotics)..it’s viral exanthem (more to that later too).. And she said that there is no need fro treatment not unless the rashes becomes super itchy..

At sa wakas, natagpuan din ang saralin.. at makaktulog na ng mahimging ang nanay… ay hindi pala!

because I need to catch up on my blogs.. I have so many blog posts that needs to be published. And even my MILK WEEK posts were put behind.. sorry guys.. may next week pa naman..

The worries and sleepless nights take a toll on me.. I have never been this tired my entire life.. and I can’t blog and think.. so tired that I can’t even sleep.. but that’s all behind me now.. at least now I can breathe.

Milk Week

We have 3 students in the house, my 2 boys and my nephew. And we know that they need all the calcium they can get when the school starts. As a preparation, we have been giving them Malungay rice instead of usual rice. That’s rice cooked with Malungay leaves. And of course we are very cautious of the milk that we give to them.
Malungay Rice

Milks are not the same and we know that. Some milk may work for you but not for me. For me, it is OK to keep changing milk until you find what is right for your kid. But how do you know if it is right for your kids?

Well for me, the first thing I consider is the taste of the milk. If my kids liked it then I will give it a try. Another thing is of course when I can see the effect of the milk to my kids. Are they gaining weight or is there a chance in their appetite? If there a change in their appetite, then I know it is the right milk for them.

So this week, I’ll e featuring 3 kinds of milk that is suitable for kids 4 years and above. I’ll be discussing the milk’s key feature and it’s up to you to decide if it is the right one for you or not.

Advantage Of Bringing Small Books When Traveling With Kids

Is booklet printing obsolete? It cannot be avoided. There are times when you have to bring kids with you when you travel, especially if you are the mother or the father. If there is a family outing, you bring the whole family. It is not always that kids are all grown up and can help themselves when they travel. They need mommy or daddy.

Oftentimes, though, mommy and daddy are busy with something else too. They are human beings too who get tired after taking care of everything to bring like the clothes they have to bring, toiletries and food, not forgetting also the toys they have to play with when they arrive to the summer (usually) destination.

Arriving at the destination is not much of a problem. That’s where the excitement is usually really felt. Everyone starts to play and enjoy the day. It is, however, the travel itself that gets little kids bored. They just can’t stand the long hours sitting there doing nothing trying to view the side sights that pass by so quickly their eyes just tend to tire (which can get them dizzy and throw up–no one wants that to happen!)

The best thing to do, apart from getting the kids to sleep while traveling is to bring small books with font large enough for easy reading. Story books they may have not read yet. They should have a lot of picture because kids are picture-oriented. If there is no picture, it is boring. Have some ready when you travel. You might just find yourself taking turns with your kids!
