Increasing your car mileage

Fuel seems to be getting more expensive by the minute, which has given motorists reason to accept the inevitability of paying more at the pumps, or so it would seem. At a time when car owners are faced with having to tighten the purse strings, it might seem impossible to save money on fuel when the price seems to be rising ever higher, but you can save the amount of petrol or diesel you use for your car simply by changing the way your drive. It’s as simple as performing a vehicle check with Auto Trader.

The first thing you could look at is how fast your drive. It’s a well-known fact that the faster you drive, the more fuel you use. Simply by slowing down a little while driving up and down a motorway or dual carriageway by around 10mph on long journeys, the fuel that’s currently in your tank could last a little longer.

Another thing you could look at is trying to look for shorter routes to regular destinations. If there are some available, it might be worth considering going that way instead of the one you presently use. Providing those short-cuts are legal, they help you to save fuel as well as time.

Something else you should do to conserve fuel is look at all the short journeys you take which last about two or three minutes. If you decided to walk instead, it will save you a lot of fuel in the long run. Driving sensibly is the best thing you can do to cut down of your petrol bills and doing so will make life a little bit easier.

What To Bring During Field Trips/ Educational TourWhat To Bring During Field Trips/ Educational Tour

Since tomorrow, I am off for my son’s educational tour, I am to write my what to bring in a sheet of paper. I realized, why not write it here and share to other moms. For a first time mom like me (in terms of field trips and educational tour), I am really excited. So here’s What To Bring During Field Trips/ Educational Tour list:

What FOOD To Bring During Field Trips/ Educational Tour:
Lunch food such as rice and dishes that are not easily spoiled. Don’t bring tomato based food. Stick to vinegar based. Yup that is the reason why Adobong Manok is very famous on field trip lunches. Adobo dishes are not easily spoiled. You have to be cautious though, never close your container when the food is still hot. It will cause the food to perspire and thus will lead to food spoilage.

Bring lots and lots of water. You are seated comfortably in a bus and you won’t be travelling in a public transportation. Use this to your advantage and bring at least 1L of water per kid. Bring drinks such as juices and cola too. The night before put them in the fridge and then use thermo bag on the day of your trip to maintain its coldness.

Cookies and other finger foods. This will keep the kids busy. And you know how kids, they like to eat almost every minute. Save yourself by having a lot of chips and cookies in handy.

I will be bringing 4 bottles of Minute Maid Pulpy Orange, 4 cans of Coke, 4 bottle of 1L minera water and tetra pack mango juice (buti na lang Magnolia gave us a thermo bag)

For the food: adobong manok (half kilo), salted egg, rice, pancit canton and puto. Chocolate chip cokies, pringles, lays (as I promised them.. they don’t get to eat this kind of food, only when I allow them)

What CLOTHES To Bring During Field Trips/ Educational Tour:
When joining any educational tour, it is somewhat expected that the kids will play and will sweat a lot. So bring at least 3 set of clothes for the kids, you can bring their nba shirts. And bring hand towels too.

2 sandos and 2 extra shirts, 1 extra pants for each. 4 small towel for each boys and 2 big hand towels.

What other things To Bring During Field Trips/ Educational Tour:
First Aide kit that includes paracetamol, pain reliever, alcohol, baby wipes, betadine.
AlsLinko don’t forget to bring insect repellant lotion for the kids.
Bring a menthol inhaler or any rub that can soothe motion sickness.

Biogesic (10 tablets), alcohol, betadine, petroleum jelly, Off Lotion, baby wipes and of course the ever friendly mefenamic acid.. and vicks and white flower..

Oh! though I never use plastic, this has to be an exception. We need it when someone starts throwing up (me?!?)

Looking For A Place In Baguio?

Are you spending Holy Week in Baguio? Tired of looking for hotel to stay? Or not even sure of what kind of accommodation you want to rent? I am the answer! Just kidding guys, I sound like I am a promotional person no. Actually I just have some places to share. You know how my kids (and moi) love Baguio. Aside from blogging (blog hopping included), I usually surf for cheap accommodations, I have seen hotels from Baguio to Boracay (on pics only of course).

I usually look for accommodations with cooking facility. Traveling is expensive, eating out makes it more expensive. We experienced going to Baguio and staying in a hotel (not that much of a hotel actually). Our total bill in the hotel is not even half of what we spend eating out. Can you just believe that? I tell you it really is cheap if you will just cook, specially if you are traveling in a large group. If in case you have the moolah and you like hotels that much, here are my two recommendation for you:

Venus Parkview Hotel. We stayed here twice and the staffs were nice. The place is not bad, it is not the best but it is cheap. We like this place for one reason, it is very near Burnham Park. Actually it is just a road away from the park. Yup, you just need to cross the road and you’re there, that’s why Parkview. The food? er, just dine somewhere else. The rooms are not that great, I just love this place because it is a few meters away from the park. There was one time when we went there and the kid were playing in the park then it suddenly rained, the convenience of just running to your hotel room (when it rains) got me.

Veniz Hotel. I have never been here, but it was our first choice when we planned our first Baguio trip. Why? well Veniz is in the heart of Baguio! Session road is just steps away, market is almost at the back. Burnham is some meters away, jeepney terminal is just there. There’s Mc Donald’s, there’s 7eleven. Why we stayed in Venus instead in Veniz? It was my mom’s fault. Apparently, her friend knew the owner of Venus and guests who are from my hometown are given a discount in their stay. We got 25% off on our bill.

For some not so hotel type of accommodations, you can go from native huts to dormitory types.

One of my dream accommodation is in Tam Awan Village. Have you been there? It is a tourist attraction in Baguio that gives you the feel of the natives.

In keeping with the spirit in which the village was originally conceived, Tam-awan Village has become a venue for art exhibits and workshops envisioned to foster a deeper understanding, respect and pride in the cultural heritage of the Cordillera people.

The village is an experience in itself. By living in the huts, guests get an opportunity to immerse in an atmosphere that allows them to get a glimpse of village life.

On a clear day, a magnificent China Sea sunset can be viewed from the village, being true to its name as Tam-awan, that is, vantage point. (source)

I dream of sleeping in one of the huts, accommodation is cheap, but the bathroom.. ahh forget it..

Robol 88 Hotel is another cheap place. This is not actually a hotel, more like a 4 story building with units. Each unit has cooking facility and 2 bedrooms. I have never been here but according to my brother in law, who stayed here last December, the place is OK. Another thing, the place is very near to the market (now that’s a thumbs up).

For more listings of houses with cooking facilities, you might want to check this site. They provide the rates and some pics of the house.

Happy Hotel Hunting!
