My thoughts on parenthood, and what it's like to be a mom in the Philippines.

New Routine, Exciting Days Ahead!

Ang title sana ng post na ito ay Back to regular programming.. but after a few days, I realized, the title is not apt for what is happening to us, particularly to me and to my routine.

This school year is different from last year.. I have three school boys this school year but I am less haggard.. it feels like, everything’s in proper places.. parang swak na swak lahat.. My routine is quite hectic, umm more hectic than it was last year, but I am surviving it and loving it. I’d wake up at 5 (but working on 4 so I can blog at least an hour), prepare breakfast (hopefully I can squeeze in my Metafit routine.. it’s a work in progress too haha)take bath (make up time!) wake the kids up, give them a bath.. let them eat their breakfast while I enjoy my “me” time aka coffee time.. after breakfast brush teeth then off to school. After dropping them to their respective classrooms, I’ll go home, work then cook lunch. Wake Sati up then off to fetch Sanko and bring the older boys lunch meal.

We usually go to school an hour before Sangko’s dismissal (mahirap na, baka mapaaga ang uwi, magwawala un pag hindi kame nakita) and to make use of the time, I teach Sati while waiting for Sanko (sorta homeschooling but happens on the school hehe)

Before lunch, a few minutes is spent checking on Sangko’s school books and doing his homework. Lunch time is about me, Sati, Sangko with Sir Chief and Maya.. after lunch, nap time..after nap time, tutor time with the older boys.. then work, the cook dinner.. then sleep.. parang robot lang no? but really, I love it! Mahilig talaga ako sa routine and it’s hard pag mejo nalilihis ako sa routine ko.. so far, so good.. sana ma maintain namin haha

Speaking of “me” time and make up time.. last year talaga, I make it a point na I’m in full battle gear before the sun says hi.. pero pagdating ng summer, tinamad na ako mag make up.. I said to myself, this school year, I should be back to full battle gear.. and one afternoon a surprise and a very nice motivation was delivered at my doorsteps:

Ang bongga di ba! British Invasion!

Collection Cosmetics, one of the hippest and most loved make up brands in the UK, is now here in the Philippines! Get ready to create a make up look that will make you say, “This is me and I love it”.

The box I got includes blush, mascara, lipstick (and lip gloss), eye liner, foundation and a BB cream.. I’d be super biased ha.. pero to date, this is the most exciting loot I received from being a blogger! Yay, thanks so much Collection Cosmetics, ready na ulit sa full battle gear days! (watch out for the reviews on my cosmetics blog: My Painted Lips)

Cutting the Cost of Raising Kids

A Liverpool Victoria survey on the cost of raising a child in the UK put the figure at a whopping £218,000[1], which equates to around £10,400 per year. Now many parents, especially those with two, three or more kids, will be asking themselves if it really does cost that much and, if so, how have they managed to avoid bankruptcy so far!

While the figures include education and childcare costs for the average child, and these may not apply, the fact is that kids can be expensive! There are, however, many ways to cut the costs of raising kids, so don’t put the little ones on eBay just yet!

Clothing Costs

Clothing costs are a biggy, with parents spending an average of £10,781 per child to adulthood[2]. While kids may have strong ideas about wanting the follow the latest fashions, it is possible to kit kids out on a bargain budget.

Supermarkets are a fantastic place to pick up trendy, good quality children’s clothing at bargain prices. The George at ASDA range is especially varied – sure to have something for even the fussiest of little fashionistas!

When it comes to kitting kids out with the basics, you can replace that worn or outgrown school uniform for less at the great value George school uniform shop.

Food Costs

Growing kids can be hard to fill, as well as hard to please! This is backed up by the fact that the average child costs a total of £18,667 to feed[3] – that’s a whole lot of chicken nuggets!

Take your grocery budget in hand by planning your meals to prevent overspending on impulse buys. Seek out the 2 for 1 deals, but only if you are going to use what you buy. A wasted 2 for 1 is no bargain!

Get the kids involved in the cooking to encourage them to eat what’s put in front of them. Homemade pizzas are easy and fun for little helpers to have a go at, whereas older kids can help you whip up an omelette or a simple sausage and bean casserole. Not only will this set kids up with great skills for life, it will also give them an appreciation of the effort, and cost, that goes into every meal.

Holidays and Entertainment

Holidays and leisure and recreation cost an average of nearly £23,000 per child, which is a huge amount when you start multiplying it for bigger broods[4]. With a little savvy deal hunting you can drive this cost down, however – it just means getting a little more creative than simply strolling into the local travel agents.

There are more daily deals websites around than ever, and they can be a great place to find bargain holidays or deals on family days out.

You’ll also often find special offers on theme park tickets and the like on cereal packets and in the newspapers, so look out for those to drive down to cost of keeping the kids happy and occupied through summer.

While there’s no escaping the fact that raising kids is an expensive business, there are many ways to cut costs without cutting corners. Shop around and your family will fit your budget, no matter how tight that might be.

The EX We All LOVE!

Let’s talk about EX!

DSC_0539

A North Luzon lover here.. being raised in Central Luzon, you can’t blame me for loving North Luzon more than any other tourist destination in the country.. and yes, going home and visiting North Luzon is a breeze, specially when SCTEX started operating.. un lang pag nag crave ng balot at hotdog ang mga bagets, sa Bulacan pa din ang daan namin.. sarap kaya ng balot at hotdog sa Baliwag stop over 🙂

Kung meron lang Express way to Baguio no? ay wait! meron pala! Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (aka TPLEX). I learned about this last Holy Week. TPLEX is an 89 kilometer 4 lane expressway..heard that it will be full operational this year.. but I doubt it.. seeing the progress they made from our last travel to last week. malabo yata.. and heard rumors na maraming pang right of way ang hindi ayos.. we can wait.

TPLEX will have 12 exits (wiki entry):

  1. Tarlac
  2. Tarlac Central Toll Plaza
  3. Victoria
  4. Gerona
  5. Paniqui
  6. Moncada
  7. San Manuel
  8. Carmen
  9. Rosales
  10. Urdaneta
  11. Pozzorubio
  12. Rosario

TPLEX starts where SCTEX ends (Tarlac exit)…based on what I have seen.. babaybayin nito ang kabukiran sa kanang bahai ng Tarlac (if you’re facing north).. we passed by a few constructions in Victoria and Moncada… the only advantage of TPLEX.. no more old houses scenes..bukid everywhere!

And while reading about TPLEX, I learned about Tarlac-Nueva Ecija-Aurora Expressway, a 60Km planned expressway that will make travelling to Aurora faster and hopefully safer! weeeh ang saya lang ng mga EX na to!
