Going Home Like A Turista: Cabanatuan City Tour

Cabanatuan City has been our home for like 15+ years. Our clan was from Talavera.. but you know, you gotta move from time to time hehe

15 loong years..my family is living in the city and it was only recently that we discovered the beauty that lies in the city.

First stop. Microtel Inn and Suites.

My mom lives in an apartment in Cabanatuan… and of course, we usually stay with her when we visit. This time was different though, it was my ate’s wedding! And the heat (it happened end of May)..OMG! the heat! I cannot  imagined doing my ate’s make up under that kind of heat. So, we decided to stay at Microtel to prevent the heat from damaging my ate’s make up.. of course to have some fun too! Swimming! Swimming!

Cabanatuan maybe a City but you won’t find a lot of hotels with swimming pool.. that’s actually the reason why we chose Microtel, for the pool.

I love our room because it’s big and can accommodate my big family! And Microtel is not strict with the number of kids that can stay with their parents.. plus plus points for Microtel for that!

Another thing that I love about them coffee and water is unlimited! and kids eat for FREE! For breakfast that is, if they would just eat cereals, you don’t have to pay. If kids would eat what is offered in the buffet area, well you have to pay 100+.. Now that’s what I don’t like with Microtel. THE FOOD! I wish they could offer more “probinsya” kind of food. It would have been better if they offer their guests traditional Novo Ecijano food.

Or maybe, one of the reason why they don’t offer authentic Novo Ecijano dishes is because there are already so many food establishments in Cabanatuan City. And most of them are really really good! I always expect that my diet will be ruined whenever we visit this city.

One restaurant that we haven’t tried before and wish we did is Hapag Vicenticos.. as I have mentioned, we have been living in this city for 15 years and it was only this year that we got to try Hapag Vicenticos! syeeet!! sayang ang mga taon!!

And here’s why…

Interiors!!! oh my!! every corner is snap worthy!

Mga moment ko yan, walang kokontra!

Bonggay di ba! pang throwback Thursday ang peg! Kulang na lang barong tagalog at baro’t saya!

Of course the food!

Unfortunately, noong kumain kame, sold out ang Crispy Pata.. I am taking it a sign na DAPAT bumalik kame!! hahaha

O di ba turistang turista ang peg!

O sinong tiga Cabanatuan diyan? May namiss ba ako? Ano pa ang pwedeng dalawin sa bayan natin?

Practical Tips For A Hassle-free Family Vacation

Going on holiday with your family is all about having a good time together. But let’s face it; travelling with your kids can be stressful. Wherever you choose to go out of the many available family holiday destinations, there are a few things you can do to minimise the headaches of a family vacation.

Go all-inclusive

One way to reduce the stress of a family holiday is to not have to worry about keeping track of the costs as you go along. Cheap all inclusive holidays are ideal options for vacationers who want to achieve ahassle-free and fun family getaway. With an all-inclusive trip, you pay one price upfront and all your accommodation and meals are included. The price can also include activities and excursions.

Get your medical details sorted

At least two months prior to your trip, go and see your family GP. Explain your plans and ask for advice. You may need to get some vaccinations or get extra prescriptions for medications. If your child has an allergy, it is a good idea to print out a card that specifies the allergies, in case you do need to seek medical attention while away.

Prepare the kids

Talk to the kids in the weeks before you trip to prepare them for what’s to come. This could involve looking at maps or researching the animal life in your destination. You could also try cooking them similar cuisine to that which they’ll taste on holiday. Another good idea is to have the children start a holiday journal. This gives them something to do on planes, in cars and when you just want some downtime – it also makes for a great memento.

Book flights wisely

If possible book night flights so that you will be in transit when your children are normally asleep. This not only helps keep them calm on the flight, but reduces the impact of jetlag when you arrive. Avoid stopovers as well, so you are not hanging around an airport for too long getting bored.

Pack light

Remember that you’ll have to look after the kids’ luggage as well as your own, so pack light. Get them to choose one toy to take on the ‘adventure’, so you don’t have to lug a whole menagerie around with you.

Family holidays are fun. But they also have their own particular stresses. Use the tips above to keep them to a minimum and you and your family will be able to enjoy your vacation to the max.

Taal Vista Hotel Review

In my Best Of Tagaytay post, I mentioned Taal Vista Hotel as one of the most family friendly hotels in Tagaytay. We haven’t tried this hotel but Taal Vista Hotel Review that I have been reading are all positive and the amenities (specially the play area and the pool) is perfect for travelers with kids. The accommodation rate was beyond my budget (which is limited to 5k per night) so I never tried booking at the hotel. An opportunity came when I saw a Deal Grocer promo. The promo offers a Deluxe room accommodation with 2 buffet breakfast for only 5000 PhP (or 5k+). Who couldn’t say no to this kind of deal? Without any hesitation, I bought a voucher and booked for a night.

Booking was really fast. I bought the voucher then emailed Taal Vista and they answered within the day. No hassle on booking. In fact, I have to commend them for being considerate. The deal policy states that the accommodation is good for 2 adults and a maximum of two kids sharing bed with parents. From our email exchanges, I made it clear that I have 4 kids and they never mentioned an additional charge. Malambot talaga ang puso ko sa mga hotels na mapagbigay..naranasan ko na kase ma reject sa isang resort just because we have 4 kids! Napakasakit Kuya Eddie!!

Taal Vista Hotel Review

This is the room that we got, one king sized bed + one single bed. It’s located in mountain view building but we have a lake view:

Taal Vista Hotel Review

That’s the balcony of our room. The room was located on the farthest side of mountain view building, kaya may view na rin kame of the lake.. a blessing in disguise, I believe. Noong una kase mega reklamo ako na ang layo ng room namin..pero when I woke up to this, nawala lahat ng reklamo ko!

I love Taal Vista Hotel toiletries because I am a sucker for anything brown and corrugated paper! ahaha

Taal Vista Hotel Review

Love the mirror hanging on the wall.. perfect for someone who have an eye problem like me.. ang hirap kaya mag make up ng malayo ang salamin at wala kang suot na eyeglasses.

Taal Vista Hotel Review

The pool is perfect, here’s a photo from Taal Vista Website:

That is exactly how it looks. I said it was perfect because the pool was divided into two, one area is 2 feet deep and the other one starts at 4 feet deep. I enjoyed swimming with my big boys while keeping an eye on my younger kids..when I say enjoyed, it means, I felt safe letting my kids swim at the pool.

The play area was nice din naman but too small for my rowdy kids.. parang pang 4 years old below lang sya eh. I didn’t mind taking a photo, kase ang gulo ng rubber mats! Dear Taal Vista, please change your rubber mats to a thicker one, madali sya matanggal at nakakadulas ng bata eh

That was the time I met a fellow blogger (who I respect so much) waves at Tina!.. parehas kameng kating kati na maglinis sa play area LOL I guess we caught them off guard.. sabagay that was evening na din, kaya siguro parang na gyera na ang play area.

This is how the play area from Taal Vista Website..di ko ma gets kung saang angulo to kinuha..but it is far from how it looked during our stay. I didn’t got the chance to visit this area the day after… I wish I did so I can see if it changed back to its normal look. Oh well, maybe on our next visit.

Taal Vista Hotel Review

I was thinking na sana may outdoor playground, but this space is enough pala! Kung nakita nyo lang kung paano magpagulog gulong diyan ang mga anak ko! This is in front of the restaurant. This is also a great place for pictorials and a place to sit, relax and just marvel at the breathtaking scenery of Taal Lake.

The food is great in term of taste, presentation and serving (buffet breakfast). The best thing about Taal Vista is their staff, very, very accommodating. Everyone knows how to make you feel at home!

It also adds up that Sky Ranch Sky Fun Amusement Park is beside Taal Vista. I think that’s one of the reason why, out of all the hotels we have been in Tagaytay, Taal Vista is on top of their list. Just look at their happy faces:

Taal Vista Hotel Review

For those of you who’s suffering from OCD like me and wants to know the lay out of the hotel before booking, here’s an aerial shot of Taal Vista Hotel.. I’ll walk you through the hotel 🙂

Can you see the numbers?

  1. That’s the entrance, facing Aguinaldo Highway.
  2. Drop point and reception area.
  3. Lake view wing
  4. Restaurant and the photo above.
  5. Part of mountain view wing (that’s where we stayed, some rooms has lake view)
  6. Mountain View building
  7. Pool (obviously haha)
  8. Sky Ranch Sky Fun Amusement Park

O ayan, when you book at Taal Vista, you’ll know which building/wing to choose and it’s easier to picture the whole hotel area.

After writing this blog post, my heart now aches for a night or TWO at Taal Vista!!! Kaso mga inay, fully booked sya this weekend!

Have you been to Taal Vista? Share your experience with us!
