Turning 6

Oh my it’s been so looong since I last post here. I have been missing a lot.. and that includes you (oh yes you, the one reading this post.. hehe…). I feel like I was in a cave for long and still on it.. I still have no Internet connection at home!! waaah.. so for my paypal obligations, I ask for kindest consideration. I am really so sorry for all the delays.. Aside from no connection, I have been busy preparing for my first born 6th birthday party.

Please don’t tell me it so untimely.. it is not a big party, just simple one on his school.. I have been bouncing like a ball, preparing for his birthday and completing all the things Ondoy took us (ref, crib, etc..). Still emotionally affected by it.. hayy..

Anyway, I am just so proud of my son. He does not care if there will be gifts for him as long as he can give some candies to his classmates. Such a young age and he already knows the concept of “it is better to give than to receive”.. His birthday is on October 24 (ehem ehem ninang and ninong) but the big day is tomorrow. According to my OB my earliest due date is Ocotber 24 and I could not afford to disappoint him if ever my tummy pops on that day, hence tomorrow. I am quite positive that I will give birth next week.. and I am really excited for Sati.

Earlier we planned on having a costume party for his birthday (with 60 kids) but since Ondoy was scary enough, we just have to go on with a simpler one. I hope too that through his party tomorrow, his classmates would be able to forget a bit about Ondoy.. and us too..

hugs to all my kumares.. miss ko na kayo sobra!!!! waaaah

Surviving 101

I told you that my post last Monday will be my last emotional post about Ondoy but I guess a last post (without so much emotion) is the best way to say goodbye…

After the tragedy, we have seen the worst and all unexpected events and now everywhere you look, there are offers of survival kits and the likes. Survival kits are essential if you know what to put on those kits. Our experience with Ondoy taught me not only to be mentally alert but also to know what is really important during emergency. We were stranded from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning. It was during those time that we learned what is important and should have been in our survival kit.

WATER. Not just ordinary water but a clean one too. We can all attest the importance of water to our lives. We can live for days without food but not water. So when flash flood hits again, bring with you at least a gallon of water. It has been said that a gallon of water is good enough for one person for three days.

RADIO. From our experience, the lack of communication to the “outside world’ made it more depressing and stressful. We don’t know what’s happening, we have no idea if our case would worsen in a minute or two. A battery operated radio is a must too.

FOOD and MEDICINE. Obviously, though not as important as water, we need food to survive. Food that are ready to eat is must. When the water enters our house, we never thought of saving some food as we go upstairs. the kids suffered and so we are too. The only thing that kept us from hunger is a food supplement (NATURE’S WAY ALIVE).

I cannot elaborate more since our encounter with Ondoy is not as hard as those who were stranded on their roofs. We were lucky t have a second floor with balcony that made our sanity intact. Our experience is limited but I you find my list useful… all those Ondoy related experience made me miss my chatting time with my kumares (fedhz, Kaye, Niko and Jade)…

Last Post…

This will be my last emotional post about Ondoy. I don’t want you to experience flash floods like we did (Ondoy related articles flood..). I just need to let this out and hopeful after this, I am done.

And though I am already making fun of what happened to us, I cannot deny the fact that I am still traumatized by it. There are times when paranoia hit me. OCD is to blame. There are so many what ifs in my mind and sometimes I cannot bear to think of it. People suffering from OCD are like that, images would suddenly pops in their head and they can’t do anything to stop it.. So instead of suppressing it, I am letting it out.

What if #1
What if we were out that day. We were to go to the drugstore to buy some meds for the kids. Good thing that heavy rains stopped us. If we went ahead as planned, we would be trapped in Ever Gotesco for three days. I cannot imagine three days without the kids. More so, I cannot imagine my kids without me and without food fro three days. It is plain unthinkable but I could not stop my mind from thinking the scenario.

What if #2
What if hubby is not at home. I am not afraid for our safety but for the hubby. I knew that he would try everything to reach us. I would have died worrying about his safety and whereabouts.

What if #3
What if the water rise up to the second floor? What if we had to be on the roof and wait to be rescued. That would be the hardest thing. Thinking about it makes me feel nauseated and yet the image of us on the roof keeps popping out in my head.

whew! what a post.. oh well at least I am done unloading..

and please don’t tell the kids, mommy is still afraid.
