My Kidney Stones Passing Experience (Kidney Stones Tried and Tested Home Remedy)

I underwent Shockwave treatment for my kidney stones way back 2012 (read my shockwave experience here). Last December 2013, I felt the same pain on my lower abdomen and this time, it’s on the left. January 2014, I tried treating it using cogon water (it’s the juice you got from boiling cogon grass). I think I only got to drink half liter of the juice. By March, I can feel the stones went down on my ureter. It was the most uncomfortable situation I had to endure. I need to be over hydrated because if I’m dry, I can feel the stones scratching my ureter wall. But over hydration means frequent urination. I had to wear a diaper during our La Union trip (spell hassle!).

When the kids was hospitalized (May last year), I finally had the courage to consult a urologist. Nasa ospital na ako eh, ano pa bang ipag aarte ko? I was asked to undergo some tests (by some, I mean 5 tests), ironically or luckily, as soon as I am done with the check up my stones passed. It was painful but relieving. I saw crushed stones on the toilet bowl, about 5 pieces, all black. I took it and well, uh, it was hard as stones.

All along, I thought my kidney is back to normal. I never bothered consulting again to check if my kidney is cleared with stones.. I should have!

Last March, I suffered from UTI and a week after that, my left kidney is in pain.. it’s different this time. During my first 2 stones encounter, it was my lower abdomen but this time it was the kidney. The kind of pain is bothering, it feels like there’s some weight on my left kidney (if your’re experiencing the same, have your kidneys checked). I am ready for another round of waves this time, after Recognition, I said I’ll schedule a check up.

During that time, Erica mentioned I should drink Cranberry for my kidney.. coincidentally, I got an invite for Old Orchard Cranberry Juice Bloggers Lunch.. talk about right timing. Sabi ko sa inyo, my OCD is obsessed with alignment and right timing.

So I bought an Old Orchard Cranberry juice and also tried the lemon water remedy (for weight loss! haha). Here’s what I did:

  • Drink hot lemon water in the morning (before anything else). I usually squeeze half lemon to a cup of hot water.
  • The other half, squeeze in 2 Liters of water which will be your water for the whole day.
  • Drink 1 glass cranberry juice (usually I drink this during lunch)

And four days after, my kidney stones passed! OMG!!!! It was very shocking!

That’s me (obviously) sharing my shocking cranberry experience during the lunch.

Fly Ace Corporation, exclusive distributor of Old Orchard, pioneers the Love Your Kidney Campaign. It aims to build awareness to the importance and benefits  of drinking cranberry juice. May I stress, once again, how cranberry juice helped in the passing of my kidney stones. If you’re still not convinced, here’s 10 Things You Need To Know About Cranberries:

Here’s the photo of my stones:

It is softer than the stones I had last year (though it’s bigger), it’s not even painful. For those asking, during my first passing, I took the stones straight from the bowl (eh ang linis naman ng bowl sa Medical City no.. promise hindi nakakadiri at saka nag safeguard naman ako after), for this one, I knew right away that it’s time. I peed on a container and not on the bowl.

For those of you wondering if they have kidney stones, better consult a urologist now. It pays to know the health status of your kidney. Also start on drinking cranberry juice as it can do wonders to your kidney. And don’t forget to drink at least 8 glasses of water!

5 Summer Activities To Enhance #MultipleIntelligence (That Won’t Break Your Budget!)

Looking for a summer activity for kids has never been this easy. In the age of technology, any information you need to get for a certain summer workshop can be obtained easily. And I have never seen a list this long when it comes to summer workshops and activities. Sports clinic, art workshops, academic tutorials to name a few. So in the spirit of being kuripot and to be a bit different from all the blogs/ websites writing about summer activities, I present to you 5 Summer Activities To Enhance #MultipleIntelligence (That Won’t Break Your Budget!):

Summer Activity #1 Play Outside

Introduce your kids to old games. Remember a few summer back (I mean some decades ago..) when an afternoon nap will end with a paswit from your kalaros? And then you’d hurriedly put on your slippers and excitedly run outside, only to discover na ang mahuli, taya! You’d play taguan, patintero, tumbang preso, moro- moro until your lola starts calling you because it’s dinner time already. Nakakamis no? Why not let your kids experience that? If you don’t have enough space, there’s a nearest park where you can play taguan! Or just like my kids, they play taguan here in the house. I don’t know how they do it but I am glad they knew how to play it.

BONUS: Aside from it builds’ your child’s #bodysmart potential, it helps in being #brainsmart (taguan is the best way to teach counting!)

Summer Activity #2 Create Mother’s Day Card

Aren’t you glad that Mother’s Day is during summer vacation? And also the time when flowers is abundant! For a change, why not start picking flowers and let it dry in time for Mother’s Day. Dried flowers looks good on greeting card. Check out this video:

BONUS: If you made a lot of cards, the kids can even sell it to your neighborhood!

Summer Activity # 3 Set Up A Mini Store

I am not going to claim that I am #peoplesmart, but I am not shy. I think my social skill is on the upper percentile and I have to thank my grand mother for that. She’s the one encouraging us to sell samalamig, halo- halo and barbecue during summer vacations. Dealing with different kinds of costumers everyday enhanced my social skills. It also helped me in the math area!

So if you have a community that is open for this, why not set up a lemonade store, or a sago’t gulaman stop or homemade halo halo store? You can also opt on making ice candy and let the kids sell it on the neighborhoods or make a signage in front of your house. Involve the kids in the making or cooking, let them do most of the selling and the inventory.

And oh, those cards you made from Summer Activity #2 is a good merchandise too!

BONUS: If they have a bike, selling ice candy around the village is a good exercise 🙂

Summer Activity # 4 Gardening

A good activity in the morning and in the afternoon. A few years ago, we did it on the evening. Gardening is very fulfilling, it also teaches the kids to be caring as well as how to be patient.

Here’s a list of plants that’s low maintenance and easy to plant:

  • Chinese Kangkong
  • Okra
  • Tomato
  • Eggplant
  • Sili

BONUS: It’s best to plant vegetables so the kids can harvest it and they can eat it too! It teaches them what hard work and reward is all about.

Summer Activity # 5 Reading and Book Buying

I am not supposed to include this on my list but reading is an essential tool for learning di ba? And sometimes, with so many summer activities we have lined for our kids, we forgot the basic one. There’s a warehouse book sale going on here in Pasig, you might want to check it out. Books can go as low as 49 PhP, you can bring your kids along and let them choose some books they could finish this summer.

Try out some of the activities listed here and tell me how it went ha.. Let’s all unite in enhancing our children’s Multiple Intelligence 🙂

Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Review

My first time to write Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Review.

That was not our first time in Bataan (related story: Overdrive: Bataan-Pampanga) but it was our first time to look for a resort, on a HOLY WEEK! Well, it was just Holy Wednesday so our hopes are high. We started from Bagac town then to Montemar area then last stop at Las Casas, all resorts were fully booked! So much for impromptu resort hunting!

Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Review

We end up staying in Cabanatuan. We were trying to book a room at Acropolis (related story: Acropolis North Water Camp and Country Club Review) kahit ayaw ko ng bathroom nila, fully booked din! There was a room available in Microtel (another related post: Short Review of Microtel Cabanatuan) but we end up checking Harvest Hotel first, the husband liked it, check in na agad agad.

The hotel is new! It only opened last December and still on soft opening.

Firs impression: The website could use some tweaking.. ang bagal! People from Hospitality Innovators Inc please take note.

Next impression.. I love the pool! And the room! and the food! and the staff!

Let’s take this Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Review one step at a time, shall we?

Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Rooms. I love the room where we checked in. It’s big and spacious. It comes with a queen size bed and when two extra bed was added, the room is still spacious. I can’t help but compare with Microtel where 2 queen bed room is only half the price, though. Anyways, here is the photo of our room and the bathroom:

Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Review

We got a suite for 4500 PhP (soft opening price) + 2 extra bed which includes breakfast, we paid half the price for the extra bed (extra bed price is 1000 PhP). We paid 5500 PhP for the room + 4 breakfast.

TV with CIGNAL Digital TV.. makes me want to subscribe to Cignal when we move to our new house! Below that table is a mini ref.

Photo of the restaurant that served buffet breakfast during our stay. Buffet breakfast is priced at 400+ PhP per head. The buffet table includes cereals for kids, assorted breads, assorted fruits and 3 viands.

Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan serves the famous Cabantuan Longanisa.. it’s garlicky and very tasty! If you love your longanisa on the salty side, this one’s for you! (sana lang may kasamang kamatis for the real authentic Novo Ecijano experience)

Day 1 buffet choices: Beef tapa, Sardines, the super duper tasty Cabanatuan Longanisa  (asan ang kamatis?!?)

Day 2 buffet choices: Bacon, Daing na Bangus, Chicken Sausage

SO that’s the reason why this hotel is priced as such.. the food is really good.. specially the pandesal and the longanisa! and the staff is very accommodating, courteous and eager to serve.

The only reason that we would not go back at this hotel is the lack of adjustable vanity mirror in the bathroom. For someone with an eye problem like me, mahirap mag make up when the mirror is not this (as in this) close to my face (related story: Taal Vista Vanity Mirror). So if you want to see me on your hotel again, FYI, pakipuno ng salamin ang dingding! Just kidding! Bumili na ako ng handy mirror pagdating na pagdating namin dito sa Pasig.

More pool photos for Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Review

See how shallow the kiddie pool is? Sati’s not afraid to swim by herself! The kiddie pool and the adult pool is only separated by a small division..

The part where the kids are sitting is the small divider of the two swimming pools.

No worries letting the boys swim by themselves.. not just because they knew how to swim but the pool was only 4 feet deep.

TRIVIA: This is the only hotel in Cabanatuan City with a grand staircase. If you are planning to make a gran entrada for your events specially wedding and debut, Harvest Hotel is the place to be. Inquire directly at the hotel for Harvest Hotel Cabanatuan Wedding Package.
