Break the Habit and #PledgeToDoubleCheck For Your Family

Our family, most importantly, our kids are the special treasures we have and with that, we only want what is best for them especially in terms of the food and drinks they consume. However, with the goal of making them happy with their favorite refreshments, desserts and snacks, are you sure that they are nutritious for your little ones?

Beware mommies, do not put your guard down and don’t be complacent because it’s not enough that we buy products having popular names. There might be red flags that you don’t see in the usual products that you buy. Just because we see our kids are enjoying their usual snacks and drinks doesn’t mean that our job is done, because as important it is to give them what they want, it’s even more important to give them what they need. As wise moms, we should check what ingredients are in the snacks and drinks that we serve to our kids. Is there too much sugar? Too many artificial ingredients? Remember, giving what’s best to our children is not only about providing tasty snacks and beverages –but rather, about providing them with snacks and drinks that will nourish them and keep them healthy.

Guilty? It’s never too late to break the habit of buying whatever is pleasing to the eyes and what is popular because All Natural Seasons Juice by Dole have started the mommy movement #PledgeToDoubleCheck that advocates for smarter and wiser grocery shopping.

This movement is a call to be more conscious about your grocery shopping habits and to inform and properly educate yourself about the ingredients of the products you are buying. The lesser ingredients they contain, the more natural they probably are, hence, a healthier and safer product for the family.

We may think that the current products that we are purchasing are already “healthy” but upon checking their ingredients lists, you might be shocked to find that they contain chemically-sounding, artificial additives and preservatives to add a more flavorful taste. Fair warning for all mommies that when there are too many ingredients (more than 10) and are a bit complicated or hard to understand, it could be a sign that the product contains a lot of artificial ingredients that are not advisable to be consumed in large amounts regularly so you might want to reconsider buying it.

Through pledging to check the label, you are committing towards being more aware on which brands to put your trust in and assessing which are true to their claim of being a healthy product. You will be shocked to discover that the products you have patronized and have made staple food items at home contain ingredients that may result to health complications.

Well-known celebrity mommies like Jolina Magdangal, Neri Miranda and Pokwang, together with some sought-after mommy bloggers such as Pehpot Pineda, and Peachy Adarne have spearheaded this movement of breaking the bad habit of not checking the label and starting to read and scrutinize the contents of the food and drinks that they buy.
It’s about time that you join us, not only by signing the pledge but taking this to greater heights by sharing this message to invite other mommies out there to take the pledge to double check the ingredients to really know what’s in your juice.

Other mommies nationwide who have started taking in on the pledge admitted how double checking the back label has made significant changes on them as a mom and how they were able to protect their children from health risks.

Mekeni Picnic Hotdog “Bistek” Recipe

We love Mekeni Picnic hotdog and I know you kayo din. We love it as it is fried but sometimes, we tend to look for variance di ba? And since my husband and kids love bistek, I thought why not with hotdog?

The amount of hotdog you need is based on your family’s hotdog capacity. Rule of thumb, 1 medium sized onion is good for 3 pcs hotdog 🙂

Mekeni Picnic Hotdog “Bistek” Ingredients:

  • 6 pcs Mekeni Picnic Hotdog Jumbo
  • 2 pcs medium sized onion, sliced as rings
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • kaunting paminta (isang kurot lang)
  • spring onions for garnishing

Sa totoo lang, sobrang dali nito i prepare. What we like about this this recipe is giving our favorite hotdog some tasty sauce. Minsan kase di ba, masarap kung may kaunting sauce or sabaw ang ulam.

Sa sobrang dali, I think even your kids can do this with supervision sa paghihiwa:

  • Slice the hotdog and cook it for 3-5 minutes.
  • Add onions and soy sauce. Stirring from time to time.

  • Turn off heat when onion is cooked (around 5 minutes).
  • Serve with spring onions on top and rice of course

We also tried with fried rice and we like it better with it.

Kusina tip: Kung saan ka nagluto ng Mekeni Picnic Hotdog “Bistek” pwede ka din doon mag luto ng fried rice.

Enjoy More Guiltless with Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa

I recently attended an online event from Mekeni Food Corporation, entitled “Enjoy More, Guiltless.” The event features Regina Latt, Senior Dietitian at the St. Luke’s Medical Center; and Chef Vince Garcia, President and CEO of Chef Vince Garcia Culinary Group to help moms on how we can serve healthier yet easy-to-prepare foods.

I really enjoyed the cooking session with Chef Vince. He shared a nutritious recipe using Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa as the main ingredient called Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa Casserole. From the looks of it, I think this is something that my kids will like.

Before the event, I was also able to share a recipe using Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa as the main ingredient. I prepared Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa Creamy Pasta. It was actually a left over from our breakfast and made its way to the snack table.

It is so simple that even your kids can prepare it. The ingredients are cooked and sliced Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa, crushed garlic, thinly sliced onion, pasta cooked according to packaging, all purpose cream, salt and pepper.

How to cook Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa Creamy Pasta:

  1. Saute garlic and onion.
  2. Add Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa and stir for a few minutes.
  3. Add a pack All purpose cream.
  4. When the sauce starts to simmer, season with salt and pepper then toss the pasta.

I usually serve mine with crushed pepper and parmesan cheese.

This is actually my first time to try Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa and though at first I thought it would taste bland, surprisingly, it is very tasteful. I learned from the online event that Gluten is not new.

“It is always present in the grains that we know like rye, barley, and wheat. It’s in products like bread, sauces, condiments, salad dressings, pasta, pizza, processed foods, beer, and in meat products that are processed with extenders and added flavorings or colorings.” Senior Dietitian at the St. Luke’s Medical Center, Regina Latt explained. She noted that following a gluten-free diet may help in losing weight, reducing total caloric and sugar intake, managing diabetes, and reducing bloatedness.

“It is important to note, however, that for any diet concerns or any diet changes that you would like to do, it is important to consult with a doctor or a licensed nutrition professional to help you with that, especially if you have existing medical conditions,” she said.

Knowing about it, I am now more open to include gluten free food like Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa  to our grocery list. Speaking of, you can get your Mekeni Gluten-Free Chicken Longanisa in 250g and 500g packs in leading supermarkets, wet markets, online stores, and Mekeni’s Home2Home delivery now and share your winning recipe in the Mekeni Guiltless Cook-Off!
