New Trellis In My Garden

When my winged bean/ sigarilyas plants started crawling, I put up a small trellis. Later I learned, the trellis I made was too small and that I need to put a bigger one. It was a dilemma to me since I do not have a big land. As you know, our garden is just about 2 feet by 6 feet (or 8, sorry I can’t remember), so it really is very small. This is how my first trellis looked:

The photo was taken last May then in June, the winged bean/ sigarilyas completely covered the trellis. I was thrilled seeing the beans growing and was more thrilled when last week of June, I discovered that it’s starting to grow flowers! I was so overwhelmed with the thought that the beans will soon start to bear fruit. So what I did was to add more trellis to support the growing plant. A brilliant idea came to me and here it is:

If you can notice, the first photo (trellis) was outside while the second trellis I made was inside. In a way, it will also serve as a shade when we have small parties or art and crafts activity on that area.

Aside from being a shade to us, picking the fruit would be easier with this kind of trellis.

The Susy and Geno comic books: Geno and the Footrace Fury

When we learned that Susy and Geno is back (after Susy’s effort on finding Geno) we were one of the many happy fans who celebrated the reunion. It was very heartwarming to see the two together again.. and to see that they have grown so much! If you have been following Susy and Geno through their Facebook page, you know the two have been very busy with their careers and that they have grown to be active, health-conscious and fun loving individuals!  Aside from that, they just launched their newest project! The Susy and Geno comic books- which come free with every 900g Sustagen.

I was able to get my hands on one of the comic book titled: Geno and the Footrace Fury. Comics are fun and very nice instrument to encourage your kid to love reading. But of course, before I hand it to my kids, I have to review it first and see for myself if the comic book is safe for my kids- story, language and illustration wise.

“Geno and the Footrace Fury” shows a bit of what Geno has been doing lately—juggling his time between stunts and movies. The main focus of the story, though, was Geno’s friend, Chito and his problem on being the chosen one to represent his Barangay to race for the title Zoom Champion. Chito will be running against the likes of Macho Gwapo and Lisa Bilis and his Barangay hasn’t won in 6 years! A brilliant idea came to Chito, Geno will run the race for him! And though Geno was not sold on the idea, he agreed on one condition, that Chito will be training with him. Can Chito finish the training with Geno, when in fact Chito has gained megaton of weight? And with Geno’s help, will Chito’s Barangay can finally win the race?

Although the comic book was all about Geno and his adventure, Susy was never out of the picture as it was clearly illustrated on the first page of the comic that the two are still interacting. I guess it is very important that Susy and Geno fans still see the two together or still interacting with each other. The page on the two communicating through SMS was a good way to start the comic. I hope they would maintain that kind of close interaction in all Susy and Geno comics.

The illustration was really good. The mood of each scene was clearly illustrated with the use of action lines and sound cues in the text. The dialogue was easy to understand, although, I wish the texts in the dialogues were a bit bigger. The words and descriptions used in the comic were appropriate and had no foul language, despite the fact that  there was a villain involved. Violence was also excluded from the story. Because of that, I can now say that the comic book is safe for my boys. Looking forward to collect the other volumes in this comic books series!

The story highlights how important it is to be healthy. It is very obvious how Chito’s body changed after his training and change of eating habits. As an adult, I love how Geno pushed Chito, especially on the training part. I also love how sportsmanship was illustrated on the latter part of the story.

At the end of the comic was, connect the dot activity where in the reader and a friend got to experience the race through connect the dots!

Now I wonder, what’s Susy been up to lately? Is she doing movies or into racing too? I bet it would super fun to run with Susy and Geno. (Susy, organize a fun run for us!) And, oh, I hope Susy and Geno will star in an action-packed movie. I can’t wait to see the two doing their stunts. I am sure Susy and Geno can do the stunts on their own!
