7 Ways To Give Back To Your Community

Feeling altruistic? There are plenty of things you can do to make the world a better place. Whether you’re satisfying the twinges of your conscience or just padding out your uni applications, here are seven ways you can volunteer today.

1: Talk To Seniors
You don’t need any special skills to give the gift of your company to lonely senior citizens and nursing home residents. Join them for lunch or afternoon tea; help them read and sort through their mail; call out numbers on bingo night.

2: Ladle Soup
Homeless shelters are always in need of able bodies to make sandwiches and pass out plastic forks. This is another activity that requires no specialized talent; as long as you have patience and a kind heart, you’ll be more than welcome at any shelter in your city.

3: Play Fetch
If you aren’t quite ready to interact with humans, consider volunteering at a pound or kennel instead. You’ll probably do a lot of cleaning and pooper-scooping at first, but once the facility begins to trust you, you’ll be allowed to play with the animals in the name of socialization.

4: Tutor Kids After School
Youth development is one of the best ways you can invest in your community. Every child you stop from falling in the cracks is one who could eventually turn into a productive member of society.

5: Start A Food Or Clothing Drive
Collect clothes, cans and other household goods for your local homeless shelter or battered women’s clinic. You can also gather toys during the holidays for the little ones. When you have nothing, every bit helps.

6: Donate
The fastest and most efficient way to help those in need, donating will serve projects and non-profits in a way that most volunteer work simply can’t. For example, all the free labour in the world won’t buy a new suit for a homeless veteran about to embark on a job interview. He needs cash to make that happen.

7: Clean Up
Beautify parks and highways by picking up the trash that others fling away so carelessly. Your local environmental group will have more details about areas that need attention.

If you’d like to make a difference in the lives of others, volunteering is a great way to roll up your sleeves and get directly involved. Use these seven tips to lend your time to a cause that needs you.

Grace To Be Born Handmade Cards

Grace to be born is a shelter for mothers who in one point or another considered abortion. Some of the cases in the shelter includes gang rape, teen age pregnancy, sexual abuse and incest.

The shelter accommodates them and nurture them (spiritually, physically and emotionally) until they give birth. After that, they can decide weather to bring the baby home or leave it in the shelter for adoption or leave the baby and get them back when they can.

The shelter runs through donations and also make some money by selling hand made cards:

Each card is P75, 1/3 goes to the shelter, 1/3 to the materials and 1/3 to the mother who made it. The money were used to support them (in a way) after they leave the shelter.

You can help these moms and the shelter by buying these cards or giving financial assistance.

You can visit them at 53 Dr. Sixto Antonio Ave., Kapasigan Pasig City (across Meralco Pasig branch office).

Grace To Be Born Birthday Project

You know what’s the best part of our Birthday Project? The opportunity given to us to share our blessings and help other people in ways we can.. So thank you everyone for helping us with our Birthday Project.

I am overwhelmed with the support we received, coming from our friends and big companies, so before anything else, allow me to mention again the companies and bloggers behind the success of our birthday project:

ZoWanderer
I Love Keisha
Lovingly Mama
Mommy Peach
Mum-Writes
Willa
Yami
Manette

..and an anonymous person also sent some money (which Levy used to buy milk for babies).

I really enjoyed our day at the shelter, but my kids were the happiest! They can’t get enough of the kids and the babies.. and now they want to go back to the shelter soon!

Syempre, kame din ni Levy nag enjoy, specially that the moms at the shelter are all game in joining all the fun.

And I have to thank Fedhz and Richard for spending the afternoon with us (sana nag enjoy din kayo)

We had games such as Pinoy Henyo, charades and hep hep hurray! Sorry no photos during the games, bawal kuhanan ng pics ang mga moms since their cases are really sensitive. Magsawa na lang kayo sa mukha namin ni Levy haha

From our blogger friends, we were able to raise 8000+ PhP (2000 were used for the milk) but one anonymous check holder signed (without forcing him to.. haha)for a 10K PhP check.. Sana next year pang 100K PhP na ang birthday ko haha

Yes, I am planning to do this yearly. At first, I thought of looking for another shelter or orphanage for next year’s birthday project, pero wala eh.. napalapit na sa puso ko ang Grace to be born..

You can help Grace To Be Born too 🙂 Here’s how:

You can help save the unborn from abortion by giving financial assistance, volunteer services or donations in kind.

You can visit them at 53 Dr. Sixto Antonio Ave., Kapasigan Pasig City (across Meralco Pasig branch office).
