Donations For Typhoon Yolanda Victims

Clothes Donation

I know there are many clothes donation drives going on, but of all the donation drives I have seen (read), I think this is the best one. Electrolux will wash and sort the clothes, towels and blankets before turning over to ABSCBN Sagip Kapamilya

Bloggers For Yolanda Victims:

Bloggers for Relief PH: Project Hygiene Kit A conscious effort  by the Davao Bloggers Society to join the relief operations by raising a total of P100,000.00 to finance and produce 1,000 hygiene packs for the victims. Each kit will contain toiletries and other essentials good for one week’s use by one person. Hygiene kits were chosen to be donated as this is something that is not yet prioritized by many donors. One hygiene pack costs P100 or $2.50.

Mommy Pehpot and Mommy Levy’s Birthday Project

When I was offered to be one of Pampers mommy bloggers, I was ecstatic.. who wouldn’t be? That’s Pampers, that’s Procter & Gamble, a brand that we trust and actually use, from toiletries, to snacks (we love Pringles!) to Vicks (can’t live without it.. since I was 4!). The fact that they trusted me to carry out their brand message and campaigns is just overwhelming. And I thought the happiness would stop from there.. oh well, obviously I was wrong.. I wouldn’t be blogging about this if I was right LOL

As part of our partnership, Pampers gave me some diapers… I mean a lot of diapers.. like 6 boxes of diapers! And I was like, there is no way that we can use all of it! Sati’s the only one using diapers and she only uses one a day.. one box of diaper can last up to 6 months..ang bongga di ba? I am truly blessed..and so, I thought (and also inspired by Please Be Careful episode) of sharing my blessing to those that needs it the most. I have one shelter in mind that’s could use this much diaper.. and the date, of course my birthday next year. Codename: BIRTHDAY PROJECT

After the Red Ribbon Party Planner event yesterday, I went straight to the shelter to talk to their manager/volunteers.. and the date is set! February 1, 2014! Ayayay!

Grabe, the babies there are so adorable and so playful! I spent a few minutes playing with the kids.. gusto ko sila iuwi lahat!

Our (Levy and me) beneficiary for our Birthday Project is  Grace to be born:

Grace to Be Born Maternity Home and Nursery is the youngest member of the womb to tomb ministry of Bo. It also caters to the youngest beneficiaries. Grace to Be Born was established in 2009 through the generous partnership of Basti and Betty Roxas-Chua who renovated their Pasig building and lent it rent-free to Grace to Be Born. The place serves as a temporary shelter for the unwed mothers and an orphanage for the children born there. With no questions asked, no deposit required for board and lodging, and no social standing asked for, Grace to Be Born has become a haven for the young ones to be born in, and a place where their mothers have a chance for emotional and spiritual rebirth.

Now that I already set the date with them, it’s time to look for sponsors. Of course, I will be maximizing this party/ activity as much as I can.. and contact all the possible sponsors that I know. I want to give all that I can to the shelter. Fatima of Grace to be Born gave me a list of what they need, excluding the sponsors that I will contact, here are the list:

Toiletries for Babies ( I am hoping I can contact Johnson and Johnson for this). If you have contact or know anyone from JnJ, I would greatly appreciate if you will share this page with them.. or introduce me to them so I can send my proposal.

Milk for pregnant (I am also planning to contact Anmum for this one).. I’m still looking for the calling card from Anmum, but if know someone from them, please.. please share this page to them.

Maternity Clothes for mommies (and also a few clothes post maternity so we can give something for them once they graduate from the shelter). This is where you come in my dear readers.. If you have maternity clothes and other clothes that you no longer use, you can donate it 🙂

Milk for babies.. I read from somewhere that Milk companies are not allowed to donate milk (Milk Code.. correct me if I am wrong) and though I have contacts from Milk companies, let’s abide with the Milk Code.. and so I will be asking around for money donations on this one. This is specially for bloggers.. for every $20 (or equivalent in pesos) you donate, I will be putting link on my homepage (and mommy Levy’s blog) from the day you send the donation and will be up until March. I will also be publishing an update once in a while with the list of sponsors. You can contact me here: https://www.facebook.com/mommypehpot for the paypal address or the bank details.

They also need the following:

  • Biscuits (wala akong kilala sa MY San, baka may kilala kayo? hehe)
  • Vinegar
  • Soy Sauce
  • Cooking Oil
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cerelac for Babies

For companies and brands, as a way of gratitude, we will also display your banner on our homepage and will publish a post announcing you as one of our sponsors.

Bloggers who are free that day are welcome to party with us 🙂

Plastik Ka Ba? Weeeh Di Nga?!?

I had the chance to watch Cheche Lazaro presents Plastic Ka.

made me realize I should continue posting about my “manong wag mo na i-plastic” adventure to inspire more people to stop using plastic.

Opps. did I say stop using plastic? I take that back.. watching Plastik Ka, I have to agree on some points.. yes we cannot live without plastics.. and I am sharing with you some of the things that I can’t do without plastics:

  • frenemies… eek I was just joking hahaha
  • Milk Tea and float straw.. I don’t use straw on my drinks.. but with Milk Tea and Coke Float, is it really possible? I mean to enjoy the drink without the straw? Isn’t one of the most exciting part of drinking milk tea is the sinkers and how it goes through the straw.. ang saya di ba?
  • Plastic wrapper for books and notebooks.. self explainable.. paki explain sa katabi mo kung di gets.
  • Plastic on supermarket meats.. which I learned from Cheche Lazaro show, I can actually use my containers instead!

I did not include other plastic usage such as hanger, containers etc.. those are plastic made stuff that I really can’t live without..yes we cannot live naman without plastics.. but I think we can minimize the use of it. How?

Here are five ways to minimize the use of plastic without much hassle to your lifestyle:

  • if it is not milk tea or coke float, do not use straw.
  • when buying small medicine, don’t ask for plastic and if they put it in a small plastic, say you’ll just place it inside your bag.. those small plastic bags, it has no use, you can’t even reuse it.
  • avoid the “pakidoble” culture… that is common no? padoble ng plastic at baka mabutas.. as much as one plastic would do, let it be that way.
  • your garbage bin can live without plastic, so don’t make it a habit to line your garbage bag with a plastic. The thing is, because you are doing it, you will have the tendency to commit the “padoble” culture just to have more plastic that you can use to line your garbage bag.. gets?
  • when buying at convenience stores.. specially if you’re just buying a mineral water or a pack of something, that an do without using a plastic bag..

It’s not easy..as I have mentioned before, inconvenience is the price I have to pay to help save Mother Earth. It’s very inconvenient to bring your own ecobag, to bring your own container when shopping for meat and wet goods.. it’s not easy but inconvenience is a very small price.

I do agree, on the point that, plastic banning is not the ultimate solution, it was pointed out that other trash such as wood, old clothes have the tendency to sink at the bottom of the river.. and that only plastics are seen as the waste that clogs the river… making the metro more susceptible to flooding.. it’s all about waste management still and education. It was amazing what Villar Foundation has done to clean up their river and how they manage waste in their area..I hope this kind of waste management can be done in all parts of the metro (if only LGU will unite.. OK that’s another thing..)

Of course, waste management aside, minimal plastic use will be a great help…

How about paper bag? as one of the guest in Cheche Lazaro presents said, “basura pa din yon”….indeed..
