M·A·C Lip Conditioner For Mommy

As much as I want to maintain my other blogs.. it just doesn’t seem to be that possible.. so instead of torturing myself, I will now start posting beauty and fashion related stuff here 🙂

First beauty post: M·A·C Lip Conditioner  SPF 15

From M·A·C’ webste: M·A·C’s popular Lip Conditioner in a compact swivel-up stick. Goes on direct – or with a brush – to condition, moisturize and gloss the lips. Provides everyday UVA/UVB protection. Lightly vanilla: clear and sheer…the natural choice for all!

That’s US$15.00 at their website and I got it from Duty Free for $18.00

For someone who loves lipstick so much, I really need to invest on lip care and I just knew that MAC Lip conditioner can deliver the care that my lips need.

It’s a bit small from what I expected (reminds me to read the description better).. This lip conditioner has three kinds, this one which is a stick, the other one which is in tube and the last one (and the cheaper in terms of price in relation to the size) the one in a small container. I was actually planning to buy the one in the container:

But then I realized, I will be using it when I am outside, application can be a bit of hassle if I bought the other one, so I stick with the stick..

As expected, it is very convenient the stick lip conditioner. The smell is not great but it’s not overwhelming.. and the taste, I don’t like it.. but hey I am not the type of person who eats what’s on my lips, so I don’t mind, I am after the effect.

For a few days now, I used it with my lipstick and I noticed a big difference when I applied a conditioner before applying the lipstick. The blending of the lipstick with my lips are better too and noticed that my lips are softer.. and less chapped.

The upper photo is without lip conditioner where as the lower one is with lip conditioner.. obviously the one with lip conditioner is more shiny.. and the color is more blended too, not to mention that it takes less lipstick to get the result that I wanted compared to applying a lipstick to my bare lips.

Black Friday Walmart Experience

I often heard the term BLACK FRIDAY from my friends in the US.. well for me, the only Black Friday I knew is the one from the Holy Week.. but well, Black Friday happens not during the Holy Week but on Friday right after Thanksgiving. It was tagged as one of the busiest shopping day since 2005. Since this is the day after Thanksgiving most employers give their employees the day off, which increases the number of potential shoppers.

Big companies such as Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Target Corporation are participating in the Black Friday Sale.. I was able to interview one of my marce who joined last year’s Black Friday Sale at Walmart.

When you first heard of Black Friday at Walmart, what was your initial reaction?
*gotta go, sale sale sale…

Did you plan what you are going to buy for the Black Friday?
* heck yeah! saw it on the ad paper from Thanksgiving day.

Can you share with us what is on you list last year?
*3 Nintendo DS for the 3 kids (reg. $149, on sale for $89), 32 inch TV (reg. $399 on sale for $199)

On the day itself, what time did you went to Walmart?
* 330AM

Can you account your Black Friday Walmart experience from the time you arrived until you got your purchase?
*Had to stand in line for over an hour to avail 3 Nintendo DS, you step out of your line, you lose the chance of getting one. limited quantity that’s why. First come first served. By the time I got my DS, the TV line was closed, wahhhh! Registers was kind of slow too, so many people waiting for the time the sale price take effect @ 5AM

What are the items that you were able to buy from Black Friday Walmart Sale and how much did you saved?
* I saved $180 for the 3 Nintendo DS that I bought.

Are you going to Black Friday Walmart again this year?
* But of course at 330AM again,or whatever time I get up, going with my friend

If yes what do you plan on buying this Black Friday 2011 at Walmart?
*winter jackets, winter apparel for the whole family, gifts for friends and family, and a wii game system.

What are your tips for first time Black Friday Shopper?
* Get there early, to get a good parking, if it’s possible, don’t bring children, leave them at home, dress appropriately for the cold weather, leave a lot of space in your trunk for all the shopping that you will do. Bring a lot of cash or credit card. Bring coffee 🙂

My Marce Liz blogs about shopping and fashion and other sales. She’s a Walmart shopper, Black Friday or not.

The Dengue Paranoia

oh let me rephrase that, the Dengue Epidemia.

Dengue has been on the news for the past few weeks. August and September are months where Dengue cases rise. As of date (heard from the news), there are already 40,000 cases of dengue for this year, 10,00 of which coming from Metro Manila and the saddest part, almost 300 cases led to death.

Early this year, we lost a love one because of it. My husband’s nephew. Just like any dengue story, the child got fever and on the third day, he was admitted to the hospital. He got a stronger type of dengue and few days the infection got his brain, a few more days and he’s gone. It was one of the most difficult time in the family. It’s the first time that it happened and from a disease that is curable.

I cannot say what happened during those times but I can say that knowledge can be one of the best armor against this disease.

Dengue is a disease that can lead to death BUT it can be cured. It has 4 strains so a person who experienced it, can experience it again.. and can happen 4times. Don’t be afraid though, as mentioned, Dengue can be cured.. but we need to know how and what to do in order to fight Dengue.

This disease, as we all know are transferred through mosquito bites. There is a type of mosquito that carries the dengue virus. And when a dengue carrier mosquito bites a dengue infected person, and sucks a blood from the person, then bites another person, that’s when the virus is carried. I know we have to very vigilant about dengue but to save us from paranoia, keep in mind that, if there is no dengue case in your area, it is very little that a dengue virus is being carried out by mosquitoes on your area.

But if there is a dengue case in your area, you have to be very cautious and of course be very observant with the condition of your kids.

What are the symptoms of Dengue?

  • consistent fever
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • bleeding of the gums
  • stomach pain and muscle pain

We don’t have to wait for the symptoms, do we? as far as I know or based on reports, there are cases where in when the virus is detected, it is too late to be cured..and I know all of us do not want to hear the term, too late..

So what must we do?

For one, when your child has a fever, make sure that you will only give them doctor recommend medicine, stick with paracetamol such as Biogesic as this is safe for dengue fever. Some meds for fever can actually worsen the case (like Ibufropen or those that targets inflammation).

Water. Water. Water. This will be your cheapest ally. That is why people use Tawa Tawa to treat dengue.

Dengue NS1 or NS1 antigen test (Platelia Dengue NS1 Ag assay) is a test that can detect dengue virus on the first day of fever until 3-5 days. It’s pricey but, we cannot put a price tag on our kid’s safety right? So when you are suspecting dengue, go to your nearest hospital and asked about NS1.

Always remember that this kind of virus targets our immune system so the  best way to fight it is to strengthen our immune system. And during this time where dengue is very rampant, increase your vitamin c intake specially with your kids. Other things that we can do to prevent dengue:

  • Dark colored clothing attracts mosquitoes while light colored tend to blind them. As much as possible, put your kids on white pjs.
  • Clean your place, dark and messy corners are mosquitoes favorite hiding place and they breed lay eggs on water.
  • Use insect repellent, use citronella oils or Mosquito patches.
As a mother, seeing the news with parents losing their child due to dengue breaks my heart. And I want to educate people about dengue, because I know, with proper education, we can battle this disease.
