Decongestant For Your Allergies

Allergies are constantly on the rise. According to scientists, about 20 % of world’s population is suffering from some type of allergy. Most of doctors think that changes to our environment and our lifestyle are the main reason why more and more people are suffering from this type of irritation. People are spending a lot of time inside, we are eating different food, our environment is polluted and chemical products used for cleaning can often cause severe reactions. Children are especially sensitive because most of the allergies first appear during infancy while their frequency is reduced between 20 and 30 years of age. Children are inheriting these allergies directly from their parents as well as genetic predisposition to have them.

This condition can be defined as excessive reaction of immune system to substances (allergens) in our midst. During allergic reaction, certain types of anti-bodies lead to activation of cellular immune system and various mediators are released within the body. This way, inflammatory process begins as a response to outer elements and it can vary in intensity, from mild allergic reaction to asthma.

There are numerous reasons why person contracts allergy. According to new data provided by You! Drugstore, it seems that allergy is the only disease that affects different systems of organs. Children usually suffer from allergic sneezing (rhinitis) and about 40 % of children in USA are affected by it. Parent can notice runny nose, mucus is clear, itching and sneezing are also standard symptoms. If the first changes on skin appear during first months of life, this means that the child will be prone to allergies.

Our response depends on severity of allergic reaction. Mild problems can be effectively treated by using medicine such as Otrivin while asthma is much trickier because it is chronic reaction and person will need to deal with it till the rest of his life.

Otrivin is a decongestant. This means that the drug is used to shrink blood vessels. It comes in a form of nasal spray and by using it, patient is able to reduce blood vessels that are positioned within the nose which will reduce body’s reaction to various substances from our environment. This way, we are able to prevent severe reaction and reduce sneezing, redness and swelling. Otrivin is quite potent drug. It shouldn’t be used more than 2 or 3 times per day. Also, entire therapy should last for about 3 to 5 days. After that, you will be able to breathe properly.

Having in mind that the drug is pretty strong, there are certain diseases and conditions that can prevent you from using it. Before you start using Otrivin, it is necessary to consult with your doctor if you are suffering from diabetes, kidney or liver diseases, enlarged prostate or if you are having issues during urination, glaucoma, thyroid problems, heart issues or high blood pressure. Common side effects of using Otrivin are: fast heartbeat, hallucinations, different allergic reactions such as swelling, closing of throat, difficulty breathing and seizures.

Paracetamol Calpol Launches The Go Ginhawa Mom Movement

We’re very praning when it comes to fever. On the 2nd day of fever, we’re already panicking and rushing to ER. Nakakatakot kaya ang mga komplikasyn na dala ng fever. At the launching of Paracetamol Calpol Go Ginhawa Mom Movement, I have learned a few more about fever.

What is fever? What causes fever?

Fever itself is not scary, it’s very manageable actually. Fever is an increased in temperature in our body. This increase in temperature is controlled by hypothalamus, When our immune system detects a potential trouble it signals the hypothalamus through a biochemical substances. The hypothalamus in return increases the body temperature making it less favorable as a host to reproducing bacteria and viruses. In simpler terms, fever is our body’s way of fighting illnesses.

How To Manage Fever

You manage fever to treat the discomfort experienced by the patient. And when it comes to managing fever, the age of the patient is highly considered. For kids below 1 year old, you need to be very cautious and when the fever lasts for more than 24 hours, you have to bring the child to the doctor. From our experience, a 3 day fever means there is an infection.

When managing fever, you also need to take note of the physical condition of the patient when fever is low. Any signs of wearyness even without fever is a sure sign that you need too see a doctor right away.

Giving Paracetamol to the patient to manage fever should be upon the dosage advised by the doctor.

There are some beliefs and practices in fever management that are considered ineffective. One of these is wrapping the patient in a blanket or dressing up the patient in thick clothing. Para daw gisawan ang pasyente. This can actually cause more discomfort to the patient.

In managing fever, it is providing Ginhawa that matters most and Paracetamol Calpol is committed in helping us provide that kind of ginhawa to our kids.

When Sore Throat Strikes..

Anything but sore throat.

And colds.. but really, sore throat is my least favorite illness. I can’t eat, I can’t speak and I can’t even drink! Paano ako gagaling when I’m having a hard time taking meds? It’s not easy, lalo pa siguro with people who uses their voice on their profession.

Well, I had the opportunity to know how people using their voice battles sore throat. I got the chance to interview someone who uses her voice in her chosen field. Meet teacher Rosalie Lazaro Evangelista:

Teacher Evangelista, as she is fondly called by her students, has been teaching for 12 years at a private school in Pasig City. She experienced teaching all grade levels, her first advisory class was Grade 1 and last school year, she was the adviser of Grade 3 class.

Her typical teaching days starts with a prayer. After praying, which she leads most of the time, comes the attendance. She would call the students one by one for the attendance. Homework checking comes next and then motivation activities for the kids. Usually, teacher Evangelista sings with the kids, sometimes, they play games. After motivating the kids, she starts with the lesson of the day. Every time they change subject, she would motivate the kids again then start with the new lesson.

Teacher Evangelista is inside the classroom from 7 AM to 3 PM with an hour break for lunch and meryenda. And she’s talking/ using her voice 80% of the time. She said she really loves teaching. She feels proud when her students show they understand the lesson for the day. Of course there is something that she does not like with being a teacher. Well, aside from students quarreling inside the classroom, getting a sore throat is what she hates the most.

The worst situation she had to deal with is getting a sore throat twice in a month! And though there are remedies for sore throat, it becomes a hindrance on her profession. Explaining a simple theory becomes more challenging when she have sore throat. It makes her feel uncomfortable too and she feels inadequate to teach because of it. Whenever Teacher Evangelista’s suffers from sore throat, she wants to brush and gargle salt and water more often to improve her throat. She can’t do that in front of the students. She has to take a break more often and she really doesn’t lie doing it as she feels she’s giving less to the students.

I asked her if she tried other remedies for sore throat or if she hear about Kamillosan. She said, she haven’t tried it but she knows about the product. Their pedia prescribed it to her kids when they were suffering from sore throat. She thought, the product was for kids only that’s why she never considered using it. Now that she knows Kamillosan is not just for kids, she’s more than willing to try it.

Teacher Evangelista knows that Kamillosan is safe because it was prescribed by their pedia. She knows that Kamillosan is effective because her kids have tried it already. She’s going to use Kamillosan because it’s the most convenient remedy for sore throat.

Kamillosan has clinically proven anti- inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients to effectively reduce symptoms caused by all stages of sore throat, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis. It alleviates irritation, supports wound healing and exerts an antiseptic as well as deodorizing effect.

Kamillosan main ingredients is chamomile, one of the medicinal herbs famous for its healing for many centuries in Europe. Chamomile has been declared as a medicinal plant of the year 1987 in Germany.
