Managing Osteoporosis

You cannot stop the time from moving and whether you like it or not, you will get old. If you can’t imagine yourself using walking canes in the future, then your body should have sufficient Calcium in order not to suffer osteoporosis. Millions of people worldwide are affected by osteoporosis; this is characterized by having bone tissue deterioration and low bone mass. It is not a dreaded disease, however if bones are fractured it can result into permanent disability or worst even premature death. If you have Calcium and Vitamin D deficiency, you are most likely to get affected by osteoporosis when you get old. But these are not the only vitamins and minerals that are important to one’s bone. Your body should have the nutrients like zinc, potassium, vitamin A, C, K and the B vitamins. To manage osteoporosis and reduce the risk of fracture you can do the following steps:

  • Increase physical activities
  • Diet should have lesser sodium
  • Avoid or quit smoking
  • Alcohol intake should be limited
  • Maintain an ideal weight
  • Include fruits and vegetables in your diet

Weight Gain and Sleep Deprivation: Their Strong Connection

The number of obese children is fast growing and it is quite alarming in some ways. This is because children nowadays spend more time in front of the computer or television and lesser time doing outdoor activities such as playing sports and exercising. Since both parents are working, neither of them have free time to prepare home cooked healthy dishes. Both young and adults are living in fast-paced world, hence the mindset of doing everything quick and easy is the best solution they can think of. But this is just one of the many factors involved in weight gain problems.

Sleep studies have shown that there is a strong connection between becoming overweight. Abnormal sleep patterns resulting to lack of sleep contribute to abnormal weight gain of children aged nine to twelve years old. Lack of sleep may not only result to becoming moody and inactive in school, it can also lead to being overweight. In the research it has been found that children who slept less than nine hours have higher risk of being overweight.

By the time these kids reach the sixth grade they are most likely to be overweight. However there is something positive shown in this studies, when kids reach sixth grade, an extra hour of sleep would mean 20 percent reduction on the risk of being overweight.

It can be because those children who get enough sleep have more energy to consume in doing physical activities rather than those who do not have enough sleep. So instead of playing outside or doing exercise, these children would just lie around. It is important that parents should monitor the sleep patterns of their children to avoid overweight problems in the future. Parents must reinforce proper bedtime schedule based on their kids’ age. It is also a must that children must have a good and healthy sleep.

How’s Your Weekend?

Weekends means rest day to most of you. To me , it’s not. Basically, this is the time of the week when I am most productive. I can stay very late at night and write about the best acne treatment on my health blog. Friday and Saturday nights are my nights. I can stay in bed as long as Sati will permit, but at least no pressure of having to wake up early because of my school boys.

But why stay late?

Well it seems that my mind works better, way better at night. Let’s put it this way, if I can write 10 articles for 4 hours during day time, I can write it an an hour during night time.

How about yo? How’s your weekend?
