Choosing The Right Contraceptive (that works)

Having two unplanned pregnancies, do I have the right to discuss this topic? Of course, at least I can give you some insights on what’s the most effective way to have unplanned pregnancy. LOL

Here are some list of different kinds of contraceptive, how they works and some side effects:

1. The pills. Generally the pill is taken orally, it contains two kinds of hormones which prevent us from ovulating. Depending on what kind of pills, it is taken first on the second or first day of your period. Most is a 28 pill mat, which you should take religiously with each pill corresponding to a day. This is one of the most effective contraceptive but it has some side effects on it. For one, if your neurons is as less as mine, and probably you suffers a lot of memory relapse, this one is not for you. I tried this one before and it only take two months and more than three missed intakes before I gave it up. Some says they experience head aches and weight gains. I did not experience both. The up side is I got brighter, whiter and clearer skin.

2. Injectables. This kind of contraceptive works well with less neurons people like me, you are injected only once every three months. Isn’t that great? How does it work? Basically it prevents your ovary from ovulating or releasing of egg cells. It fakes your body and make it feels like it is pregnant. Though this is great for me, there’s a lot of disadvantages that I personally experienced when I use this. – it is so DRY down there. and I hate it.. ok not if you will use KY.. but would you? – I became so fat.. more like a whale with bulging fats everywhere.. but hubby never mind LOL – head aches, head aches, head aches – morning sickness all the way.. – and lastly the reason why I gave it up, I got high blood pressure. I used it for more than a year before the high blood pressure episode.. and oh, it hurts a lot when it is injected on you.

3. IUD or Intrauterine Device. My OB gynecologist told me that this one is perfect for me, I don’t have to pollute my body with chemicals, no side effects and no need to sharpen my memory. The only down side, I cringe at the thought of it. You know how I hate flesh kind of movies, the feelings is so the same.. arghh.. How this thing works? well, a foreign object is placed on your uterus, a t shaped wire or plastic. Fertilization may occur but it won’t develop because of the foreign object in your body. Though this one has no side effects, the one using this is prone to vaginal infection. Since the t object is placed on the uterus, there’s a tiny string that goes down on the vagina. And when an infection occurs, the chances of it going up to your inside is very high. Think of the string as a freeway of the bacteria to the heavens of your partner. So if some one is using this, take extra precautions on cleaning that of yours.

4. Rhythm Method. This is by far the most effective way of getting pregnant in the most unexpected time. Trust me, I have proofs. This is effective if you can, say, stand days without “romance”. LOL

How this really works? If a woman’s menstrual cycle is regular, rhythm method is easy, if not, I suggest you try other ways of birth control. Our menstrual cycle works like this, we have a period for 5 to 7 days, count some more, then we ovulate. If the egg cell released by the ovary is not fertilized, 12 to 15 days later we discharge it. Simple as that.

Rhythm method takes advantage of the days that we are not ovulating. Ovulation appears only once a month (about 24 hours duration), it means you actually have 27 (if your cycle is 28 days) safe days, happy days, looove days.. NOT! If you are not aware, sperm cells can survive for 2 to 3 days and some even last up to 8 days. Intercourse 3 to 5 days prior to your ovulation may lead to pregnancy. That is why they have this 7 days after and seven days before, the safest time for contact, before and after your menstrual period. So if your not as horny as other people (ahem ahem) this works just fine for you.

Now, if you think that 7 days before and 7 days after, is not enough (not to mention you have your period for 8 days.. waaah!!) then you should be keen on the exact date of your ovulation. You must remember still that 7 days after your period still applies, you cannot squeeze more days from it (live with that). If you are lucky and your egg cell warns you before it takes off from your ovary, that is a whopping plus 5 or more days on your love life (ehem ehem).

It says that 24 hours after ovulation, contact is safe. How in the world can you know the exact moment of your ovulation? There is no way actually, to know the EXACT moment… but you body tells you if you are.. some signs are: *hotness (yeah that kind of hotness).. it’s how the nature works.. when ovulating your in heat.. it is how animals propagate.. that is why most intercourse that results to pregnancy are better (if not the best) *wet feeling *hotness.. again.. this time hot in reference to your body temp.. according to something I had read before, temperature increase (by half degree) during ovulation.. *slight morning sickness.. some may experience this, some may not. Ovulation may occur 10 to 14 days after your period (first day of your period).. so ten days after start looking for these signs and let them guide you.

Mommy Moments- Preggy Days

I love this week’s Mommy Moments theme: Preggy Days. If you want to share your stories and photos with us, join us!

My first pregnancy was really difficult, I throw up a lot. I had morning sickness all day long. I was smoking then and quitting was hard (but I was able to) So there’s the morning sickness plus withdrawal symptoms, what more can you ask for? I am stay at home, that’s the good thing about it. We have planned on this pregnancy months before it was conceived. It was late 2002 when we planned on getting married and he kinda proposed on my birthday (FEb 2003).. Don’t say your “aww he is so sweet” line coz there is not a trace of romance on the way he proposed.. here it how it goes,, something like.. OK you’re 21 now, call your mom, tell her to take care of the papers for the wedding. Just that.. more of a command that a proposal LOL And so I got pregnant on January (do you really want to know the exact date?) and we planned our wedding on Feb (not knowing I am already preggy) to happen on March. Financials get in the way and we moved it to May.. then we learned I was preggy and move it back to March. I also had some emotional roller coaster then, and had a hard time giving birth.. And since I am stay at home and have a lot of emotional tantrums, I sleep most of the times, I don’t move a lot, I gave birth late. My due date was October 17 but gave birth (Kayil, 7.5 lbs) on the 24th, only because i walked non stop on the 23rd.

I am 2 weeks pregnant with Chico.. we were not sure yet.. but we know.

Kayil was 9 months when we learned that I was pregnant again, that was very traumatic to me.. He was a cry baby and I am a first time mom with no help (I am far away from my mother). He is breastfed purely but I have to wean him for the baby.. and the memories of my delivery is still fresh (even the wound! ugh!). I gave birth to Kayil in Valenzuela, as I have said I had a hard time giving birth. My OB is the nicest person on that field (our OBs are angels!). We moved to Pasig when Kayil was 6 months old. I travelled to and from Valenzuela just for my OB.. and gave birth to Mico in Bulacan.

6th month

Chico is not planned, just as with Mico. I was into birth controls after Mico but stopped because of the side effects. Took us 6 months of birth control free before Chico was conceived. Morning sickness were here again. Throwing up again and again.. withdrawal symptoms ( I was smoking again). I had some infections 1 week before Chico comes out. My OB says that I need to take it antibiotics for 7 days. OB says too that it would put some danger on Chico’s health if the infection is still there when I give birth. It is a blessing that I was finished with the meds when he comes out, and that there were no more infection. The delivery was great, still painful and still intolerable, but I am getting used to it.. LOL (We still plan to have a baby, and we will work on to have a baby girl)

6th month (stolen shot)LOL
this is my favorite preggy dress (though it is not), so maternity like and yet so wearable even when you are not preggy 🙂

I can’t see clearly now..

I was inspired by fedhz to post my eye sight problem history. I was in grade school then and we were here in Manila (or Pasay to be exact) We were waiting for a cab because we were to watch Aiza’s movie (Wake up little suzie is it?). My head starts aching and I started vomiting on the pavement. I also graced the theater house floor with my dinner. My aunts rushed me to a nearest hospital and I was X rayed. It was still vivid on my mind, I remember the doc telling me that I can go home the morning after and I can have my donut. There was nothing wrong on my head (seems that xray cannot detect OCd harhar). I can’t remember what happened after that, if I was subject t more test or not. I only know that it was two years after before I was diagnosed with eye sight problem. I was in Grade three then and I had a hard time keeping up with the lectures. Good thing my godfather worked in an optical shop. They were shocked that my myopia(near sightedness)is that bad, my first grade was 300 or so. They gave a glasses which is lower than my real grade.. They said my eyes needed to adjust from having one fist before they upgrade it to the exact grade. I was so embarrassed to wear glasses then. My schoolmates were teasing me, they say I look Kris Aquino.. oh G! I just so hate it. Back then it was not a cool thing and people mistook you from being intelligent (and I so hate it). It took about a week before I wear the glasses full time. That was year 1990.. Eight years or so after that, I discovered that I also have astigmatism. A simple explanation would be, you loose focus, a single line to you may appear two lines or blurred lines at all distance. Eighteen years later, my astigmatism is worse. Here is the case, I can’t avail the one hour eyeglasses promo. I am only qualified for a week or longer wait for an eyeglasses. They say my lenses were processed type.. and is expensive. In a place where suppliers are located, my lens will cost $50 at minimum (excluding frames). Good thing that my myopia is not competing with my astigmatism.. Myopia give up and gave the floor to Astigmatism.

Getting older is expensive.. you just discovered a lot of unhealthiness in your body that needs to be taken care of.

note: My family has it in the genes. My sisters also have eye sight problems like mine.
