Practical Cooking Tip: Vegetable Blanching

Blanching is a cooking process where in you submerge a food substance, mostly veggies and fruits, in boiling water for a few minutes then placed under cold running water to stop the cooking process. Why you should practice blanching? Because it is a tried and tested time saver!

Chopsuey can be done in less than 10 minutes! Promise talaga, this technique is a life saver. This is a must if you are yayaless like me and have mouthssss to feed!

How to properly blanch vegetables? Is there a guide in blanching? Ilang minutes ba dapat?

How long should I blanch? Minutes always depends on the thickness or size of the veggies. Broccoli florets (around 1 1/5 inch diameter) is usually blanched for 3 minutes. Smaller veggies are blanched for lesses time. Thinly sliced vegetables such as carrots are blanched really fast. Always use a strainer, a must have in the kitchen yung medyo malaki na strainer.

Can I reuse the boiling? I do but for veggies that are peeled only. Say, I will use it for carrots, then cauliflower, then broccoli.

Can I blanch all kinds of vegetables? Here are the list of veggies that we tried:

  • sigarilyas (because that’s my fave!!) We usually blanch 1 kilos of sigariylas
  • sitaw and it goes well with almost anything! Adobong sitaw, sinigang na baboy, guinisang ampalaya, pakbet, guinisang kalabasa, the sitaw possibility is endless!
  • Kalabasa
  • Sayote, it should be super quick too! Madali sya matunaw
  • Patola, I tried pero natunaw na sya agad haha
  • Puso ng saging, OK din but nangingitim sya so I would not reco
  • Siling panigang. So pag nagmura na, buy sya mga 1 kg then blanch nya.
  • Kangkong and talbos ng kamote, super quick lang dapat
  • Baguio beans, also super quick lalo na if sliced na
  • Potato medyo matagal, 8-10 min
  • Labanos we also tried, dapat sobrang bilis lang

Yan ang naalala ko so far but basically, we blanch veggies based on recipe. So if we have plans to cook chopsuey, will blanched all ingredients then sama sama na sila sa ziplock.

Another advantage if blanching is mas maganda yung kulay ng gulay, mas matingkad sya and I do not know why. As to nutrient loss, yes merong loss, but hello, at least hindi sanity mo na loss because with blanching, hindi ka na maloloka sa pag aasikaso ng lutuin.

You will need at least half the day to blanch a 2 week vegetables menu. Isang paguran lang but hayahay na buong linggo di ba. Try mo din and tell me how it went for you.

Noche Buena Idea: Ready To Cook Crispy Pata Or Ready To Cook Lechon Kawali

Crispy Pata and Lechon Kawali is always a part of Pinoy handaan. Ready To Cook Crispy Pata Or Ready To Cook Lechon Kawali nasan na kayo?!?

Ready To Cook Crispy Pata

Nasa Monterey Meatshops lang pala. Mga momshies, may I present to you, a Noche Buena Food Idea that I am super thankful I discovered, Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata and Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali

I know you have a lot of questions and I am going to answer all that.

1. Where to buy Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali & Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata?

Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata & Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali is now available in all Monterey Meatshops. It is also available in major supermarkets in Luzon and can be found in the NATIVE SECTION.

2. How much is Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata & Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali?

  • Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata is P325 (900g per bag)
  • Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali is P230 (425g per bag)

3. How to heat Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata & Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali?

There are two ways to reheat it, you can pan fry or use Turbo, reheating time is 20+ minutes.

My recent experience with frying is not so good. Natalsikan ako ng mantika eh hehehe, so I opted for Turbo. Atsaka, turbo is so great, walang mantika na kailangan. I just need to turn it on and leave it there. So yun na nga. I cooked my Purefoods Heat and Eat Crispy Pata & Purefoods Heat and Eat Lechon Kawali using my turbo.

It says in the packaging that for Turbo, Cripsy Pata is 40 minutes while Lechon Kawali is only 20 minutes. The Crispy Pata took about 50 minutes and binaligtad ko sya nung luto at crispy na yung ibabaw.

Purefoods Heat and Eat Review

Let me just rave for a minute how genius this product it. OM MY GOODNESS! OH MY GOODNESS!!!

Crispy Pata in less than an hour? Like, seriously? Yes, seriously, it’s a ready to cook crispy pata. If you can’t relate to how I feel, you haven’t tried cooking Crispy Pata and you do not know how tedious to prepare this. Let me explain, to enure that your Crispy Pata is crispy on the outside and cooked and tender in the inside, you have to pre cooked it for about an hour (depends on the size). And then you need to let it cool.

With Purefoods Heat and Eat, siguradong sarap lutong! Anytime! All the time. Eh kase di ba, prep time is less than an hour. That’s a lot of time na mase save mo. Instead of being in the kitchen for hours, with Purefoods Heat and Eat, minutes lang. Tapos if you are going to use trubo pa like what I did, chilax chilax ka na lang.

How about the taste?

Malutong siya noon naluto and the inside is really tender. Hindi matigas at mahirap nguyain. Perfection!

It’s best paired with sukatoyo saue. This is the best timpla that’s perfect for your Lechon Kawali and Crispy Pata

Crispy Pata and Lechon Kawali Sawsawan recipe:

  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup toyo
  • 5 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • sili (depends on your hotness level)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped sibuyas

I highly recommend Purefoods Heat and Eat, lalo na ngayon Noche Buena. Ang daming oras mo (at pagod mo) ang mase save dito. Sa dami ng lulutuin at ihahanda this Christmas (and also New Year), life saver ang Purefoods Heat and Eat. Be sarap lutong updated sa Facebook by following Purefoods Heat and Eat Facebook Page. Coffee Jelly

If you want it creamy, coffee jelly is what you need. It is saucy and creamy with tidbits of jellies. You can make your jelly or buy the ready-made coffee-flavored gelatin. • Coffee-favored Jelly
  • All-purpose cream
  • Condensed milk
  • Evaporated milk

Cappucino Ice Cream

You can buy ready-made ice cream but to make it is quite fun and memorable for the kids. You need an electric mixer or an electric whisker. If you do it manually, it will take much time, and you might not get the cream you desired. All you need are:

  • All-purpose cream
  • Condensed milk
  • Instant coffee powder
  • Chocolate chips

  • Mixture of all-purpose cream and condensed milk
  • Gelatin mixture for the top

Coffee Ice Cream Pie

If you love pie, you will be going to like this one. It is like a refrigerated cake, Mix all the ingredients or have it your way then put everything on the crust. Check these:

  • Ready-made crust
  • Vanilla Ice cream
  • Coffee
  • Nuts
  • Cream Cheese
  • Chocolate chips

You can quickly make this one, crushed mocha cupcakes and mix all purpose cream an then form it into balls. After this, use a toothpick or a hard straw and dip the chocolate ball into the melted chocolate. You just need these three ingredients:
