Sail through Maternity, without Maternity Clothes

As soon as a woman falls pregnant, amidst the excitement of bringing a new life into the world, several thoughts are directed at what clothing will last them through their pregnancy and their growing bump. While there’s a whole host of fantastic maternity clothing on the market, some at affordable prices through supermarket ranges such as George, sometimes, it’s nice to buy clothing that can last during and after pregnancy to get the maximum amount of wear out of your new attire.

As the autumn and winter seasons approach, now is the time to stock up on any warm clothing that your summer wardrobe may be lacking. Choose items that will fit your pregnant figure while also doubling up as post-pregnancy threads; for this, you don’t have to head for the maternity range. Be clever about your choices and you could pick up some fabulous items from the main collections.

Cardigans

Women’s cardigans are a fabulous addition to any autumn wardrobe, whether you’re pregnant or not, and the design of many women’s cardigans from George at ASDA will allow them to be worn with bump and without.

Choose a cardigan that’s longer in length – the Moda Ribbed Cardigan for £12 from George would be perfect; its open front means that regardless of bump size, it will suit your growing figure without stretching out of shape.

Maxi Dresses

These are an ideal wardrobe addition, even as the weather changes towards milder temperatures. Team with a cardigan or shawl and you have a perfect outfit for an evening meal or even a daytime look. While a standard maxi dress may not fit during the last months of a pregnancy, it will certainly accommodate the early stages to save you investing in maternity threads too soon.

Opt for autumnal colours, such as a deep, flattering burgundy, and choose a dress that is flowing rather than figure-hugging, which will brush past your growing bump to give a seamless look.

Jeans

Most ladies will choose to invest in some maternity jeans at some point – whether it’s the under-bump or over-bump design is up to the individual. However, if you’re a little strapped for cash and want to try and utilise standard jeans for as long as possible (investing in a new pair that you can wear afterwards, perhaps?), you could always purchase a waistband extender which helps to extend the waist of your jeans and trousers as you grow.

Coat

It’s a shame to spend a lot of money on a coat that’s designed solely for maternity use – especially as many winter coats can be quite expensive. Rather than spending on a maternity coat that you’ll get minimal use out of, buy an A Line, wraparound or cape style coat that can double up as a maternity coat during pregnancy while it can also be used afterwards, too.

You shouldn’t feel pressured into heading for the maternity rails as soon as you start to show. Be sensible, choose affordable items and use versatile, standard clothing wherever possible, to avoid spending OTT on maternity items.

My Laundry Experience and My Dream Electrolux Time Manager front load washing machine

I always say that the most obvious proof that the kids are growing is the increase in the amount of dirty clothes..kase when you’re a mom, sometimes you worry that you’re kids are not growing up fast. Take a look at your laundry or notice how it was before and how it was now, you’ll see how big your kids had grown up. In my case, the usual 2-3 hours doing the laundry had increased to 4-6 hours (bed sheets, towels and the likes not included), but you know the best thing about the kids growing up in relation to doing the laundry, I got me little helpers!

My typical wash day starts with sorting out the clothes. You know, that’s the basic fabric care tip I can share. Wash clothes according to color and size. Ayan, may naalala tuloy ako.. back then, when I do the laundry, sorting the clothes is just about light colored clothes, dark colored clothes, pants and kids clothes. Now, light colored clothes are sorted again, same with the dark colored clothes and so on.. kung baga sa multiple choice, mas marami ng choices ngayon!

The importance of sorting clothes before washing is to ensure that no discoloration will happen. Also, washing clothes according to size and type of fabric ensures that the fabric will not be stressed out during washing. Different kind of fabrics need different kinds of wash setting (for washing machine).

So here’s how my sorting is done:

Dirty clothes are first sorted out into categories: White clothes (adult clothes + kids school uniform), White clothes (kids), Colored clothes, pants, brassieres (for hand washing).

White clothes are then sorted out according to size and kind of fabrics: Kids uniform, all white adult clothes and semi white or white clothes with print.

Kid white clothes is also sorted out: Sando, underwear and socks.

Colored clothes are sorted out according to color, and for a family as big as much, yes we have a rainbow colored laundry! Just kidding, my colored clothes laundry is usually about green, red, blue and dark. Yellow goes with green group, Pink goes with red, brown and black goes with the dark group. Parang larong moro-moro lang ang labahin ko di ba? Kampi-kampi haha

Hindi pa tapos yan.. because the dark colored group will be sorted again according to size: small sized and bigger ones (mga pangbata at pang matanda). The the pants which again will be sorted out according to size and sometimes according to shade.

Sorting out pa lang, nakakangarag na at time consuming! Eh wala naman ako magagawa di ba, if I will not sort out our dirty clothes, we might end up having rainbow themed clothes!

Now comes the real deal, the star of the night, the main dish! err.. I mean the main job, the actual washing of clothes. If sorting out takes an hour to complete, the actual washing is 3-5 hours (hindi pa kasama ang sampayan diyan ha at ang tiklupan! ay at ang plantsahan!). I try to be as organized as possible when I do my laundry, after sorting the clothes, I start washing the white clothes first. Wash and then rinse, some by hands, some through the washing machine. Then fabric conditioner and the cycle goes on until the last piece is done. And then hanging it to dry. The next day is for folding the clothes and ironing those that needs to be ironed (usually half of the clothes I washed).

the leaning tower of dirty clothes hahaha

Saturday is my laundry day and with the amount of time I spent doing it, madalas, our lunch is sacrificed. I don’t have the time to cook when I am doing the laundry. We usually end up buying our lunch or whatever is available in the pantry. And I know aside from our lunch, the time I spent with the kids are also sacrificed.. medyo malungkot yan mga mother.. having four kids, I really need to make sure that I have time to spent for each of them..and this laundry thingy is making it hard! (ahuhuhuhu)

I’m sure a lot of mommies can relate to me.. and for sure, you all wish there’s a washing machine that’s perfect for you, the one that will make washing the clothes a lot easier and a lot shorter.. iyong tipong, iiwan mo lang, bahala ka na jan sa buhay mo kind of washing machine ba.. iyong tipong, oh maglaba ka lang diyan at maglalaro kame ng mga bagets, tawagin mo na lang ako pag tapos na at meron nga mommies, there is one product that is perfect for us! The Electrolux Time Manager front load washing machine:

 Electrolux Time Manager

The Electrolux Time Manager front load washing machine! And why that much excitement over this front loader washing machine? Let me tell you:

The Electrolux Time Manager front load washing machine is very ideal for me, since it is fully equipped with the latest features and technology, it will allow me to do other things while it it washes our clothes. That means I have more time for the kids, more time to prepare food for them!

The  Electrolux Time Manager front load washing jetsytem™ wash system gives the superior care for our clothes (maybe the same care I do when I handwash/rinse our clothes). IT gives a constant, gentle shower that massages the water and detergent through the clothes.

And the reason why I am convinced this is the perfect washing machine for me:

  • It help remove household allergens in clothes by up to 99.9%  through its Vapour Action

Yes! It steams out the wrinkles on the clothes, can you just imagine how helpful that would be? It means less clothes to iron! OMG! Can I have this washing machine now? as in right now? I need this!

And just so you know, front loader washing machine uses less water, more effective in spin dry, consume less electricity, more effective in washing bigger fabrics and also good in dealing with delicate fibers. Convinced ka na din ba? Ako sobrang, sobrang, sobra! But wait!
