What my kids are like, and how to raise your child/children in this day and age.

Sati Needs More Clothes

Sati is growing bigger every minute. Right now, she looks like she is already a 6 month old baby (see the photo below). Her clothes that I bought last September, sized newborn to 3 months no longer fit her. Yesterday, I had the chance to buy house dress for her (in our local term, daster) which only cost a dollar each. So cheap and yet so cute! But I want to buy her outdoor clothes. And if it is outdoor clothes, I can’t say no to Carters! I have been salivating over their cute rompers and dresses in cool designs.

I even asked a friend to lend me her credit card so I can buy more (I hadn’t received some of my earnings yet) clothes for Sati. I will post later the clothes that I want to buy for her and I hope they still got sizes for 9 months and 12 months. Anyway, my friend told me she already canceled her cards (I am not talking about you Fangirl LOL) because she was afraid of theft identity. I told her why don’t she avail of identity theft protection so that she would not worry about it. She told me she will think about it. I think all credit car holders should have this kind of protection specially if you use your credit card on online purchases.

The green dress she is wearing above is my favorite dress. It’s in my fave color. It also comes from carters and it is quite expensive. That’s the last time she was able to wear it, Christmas 2009. I wish I can still find this dress on bigger size.

I Need More Bathrooms

My sister with her 3 year old (will turn 4 this January 20) son is still here. And I am throwing a small children’s party for him. Remember that my whole family spend the holidays here? I had so much fun then and it was one of the best holiday for me . If there is one thing that I wish I had then, it would be more bathrooms. Last December 27 was Sati’s christening and we all end up knocking on the bathroom door so the one using it would take a bathe faster. It was stressful that we all need to take a bath and there is only one bathroom for all of us.

Imagine, me, the hubby, my 4 siblings, two have their partners with them, my mom, two helper and 5 kids. All in all, we were 16! And yes my house were packed then. It was more stressful when one of the kid need to use the bathroom and somebody is using it. You know kids cannot control their bladders. It was funny to watch them dancing and knocking on the bathroom door but it is irritating for the on using the bathroom. Oh how I wish I can have a house with two to three bathrooms on it.

Handling Their Christmas Wish List

As part of the Filipino Christmas Tradition (or even other nation’s tradition) it is a must that we give gifts to our kids. My kids, knowing this is the time of the year where they can ask almost anything, asked for a climber and a slide. They also asked for bike. The thing is, it is beyond our budget. We saw a climber and a slide in a toy sale and it cost $300+ (16K in PhP). I can’t imagine spending that much for a toy. Good thing that my kids can understand the word NO and a little explaining can do the trick.

We told them that it is not practical to buy that toy since we have little space here. And the bikes they were asking for is not advisable for them since it would just gather rust just like the bikes we bought last year. They got my point and settled for Mega Blocks which we already bought last week.

Kids can be picky when you asked them what kind of gifts they want. They would ask for gifts that won’t even last a day or gifts that is worth your whole month salary. How do you say no to their whims? Especially if you think the toy is not practical or that is not within your budget?

NO is a very strong word for kids so as much as possible do not use it. Use logic when you think you have to use. If they want something and you don’t think it is good for them, explain it to them and give them alternative. Like for example they are asking you to buy them a toy car which you think will not last an hour o two. Tell them about the quality of the toy, explain to them that they would enjoy it as much because it is of low quality. And give them alternative divert their attention to a toy that is a better choice.

It always works for me, that’s why they got more than a thousand of building blocks. Aside from my obsessions with Mega Blocks, this is so worth it. They never got tired of playing it. Everyday is a new day to play and build creatures or robots or house or even castles!

Check out my article my TOY BUYING GUIDE and try it if it will work with you and your kids. Happy Shopping!
