Freelance Tax Application

Thinking the process is really complicated, I seek the help of Taxumo for my freelance tax application. How I wish I did my own so I can share with you the process of applying for Freelance Tax here in Pasig. I heard that the process here can be really challenging (one of the reasons why my papers took a while).

Mommy Levy, processed her own and can read about her self-employed BIR application/ freelancer BIR application here: SELF-EMPLOYED/FREELANCER: HOW TO REGISTER WITH BIR

I submitted the forms and necessary docs to Taxumo and pay for everything I need.  I got an update that I still need to secure a Barangay Certificate. That’s when it all becomes blurry! BARANGAY CLEARANCE OMG!

To those who are not aware, here in Pasig, you can’t have a Brgy Clearance if you are not a registered voter of your Barangay. I know that because in 2017, I tried securing one. Sa first floor pa lang ng brgy hall, pinaalis na ako. Last year, I tried transferring my voter’s registration to our current Brgy, unfortunately, when I tried last June,  the registration is still closed. The next thing I knew, SARADO na ang registration for voters.

Jump to 4:22 if you have questions regarding Voter’s ID and when you can get your voter’s ID.

So back to my freelance tax application, HOW IN THE WORLD CAN I SECURE A BRGY CERTIFICATE? huhuhuhuhu Mag aantay ba ako ng panibagong election?

It took me almost a month to finally have the courage to go to my Barangay Center and try to get a certificate.

Hindi naman pala ganun kahirap! Tips kung paano kumuha ng Barangay Certificate kahit hindi ka botante sa Barangay:

  1. Dress presentably and look professional.
  2. Promise them na lilipat ka sa Brgy as soon as mag open ulit ang registration.
  3. Be nice and courteous.

I had to face another challenges though. I am not sure what to get, Barangay Certificate or Barangay Clearance. So, I asked for 2, Barangay Clearance and a Barangay Certificate that I am a freelancer here. That where the challenge begins. I need to ask for signatures of 5 persons as witness that I am a freelancer here. ANO DAW? Basically, kailangan ko mangapitbahay!

With the support of my super loving husband, I was able to secure the 2 docs I needed and through the help of the staff from our Barangay din. Ang babait pala nila doon.

One week after I sent my 2 docs to Taxumo, I got my Certificate of Registration from BIR. Wohooooo! And one month after, I got all my docs including the books and OR. Right in time before my birthday month ends.

Now, thinking about it, I am quite glad I did it with Taxumo.. if I did it on my own, malamang nawalan na ako ng lakas ng loob upon hearing Baranggay Clearance.

But it would have been more fun sana if I DIYed no? So I have something more meaningful and better to share with you. Another helpful post for Freelance Tax Application is Mommy Donna’s post: Register As A Freelancer! My Experience in Registering at BIR

So let’s me just share with you how to process your Freelance Tax Application as I understand it (based on what happened to me and based on reading entries from Mommy Levy and Mommy Donna).

STEP 1. Tax Identification Number. Wala ka pang TIN? Apply online here: Online BIR. May TIN na from old work/employee? Yan din ang gagamitin mo but you need to file for information update. Go to the BIR office where your TIN is registered and ask for a transfer. That’s BIR Form 1905. Please make sure na alam mo kung RDO Code ng lilipatan mo na city. Here’s the Updated BIR RDO Codes 2019. Kung malayo, you can ask someone to do this for you, kay nanay ko pinagawa ang sa akin since my TIN was registered in Cabanatuan.

STEP 2. SECURE ALL DOCS:

  • Copy of BIR Form 1905
  • Photocopy of Birth Certificate and Marriage Contract
  • VALID ID
  • Barangay Certificate
  • Notarized Income Payee’s Sworn Declaration of Gross Receipt/Sales (download the copy here at pa notaryo mo)
  •  OTR (Occupational Tax Receipt)
  • Copy of a latest contract/ moa mo with your client.
  • Ledger/ accounting book.

STEP 3. GO TO BIR

  1. Fill up BIR Form No. 1901 or Application for Registration Form.
  2. Fill up 3 BIR FORM 0605 or Payment Form and pay. Magtanong ka lang kung saan pwede magbayad, mababait naman ang mga tao sa BIR
  3. Fill up BIR Form No. 1906 for printing and ask around for accredited
  4. Give all your FORMS together with your ledger/ accounting book.
  5. Wait for you COR. Pag maaga daw dumating, natatapos within the day. Sa Pasig daw matagal talaga

STEP 4. COR and OR PRINTING

You will receive your COR together with your stamped ledger and the BIR Form No. 1906. Give the BIR Form No. 1906 to the accredited printing press. Wait another days para sa OR mo.

How much to process Freelance Tax Application?

According to Mommy Levy, she only spent 2630 for all of it. Mommy Donna spent around 2K (no details on her blog).

By the way, all forms mentioned above can be downloaded sa BIR website: https://www.bir.gov.ph/index.php/bir-forms.html

Now on to filling taxes! I am planning to do it my own, to see how it goes. Mukha namang madali lang, nakaka intimidate lang talaga sa una. Kung nagawa ni Mommy Levy at ni Mommy Donna, kaya nyo din!

Blogging 101: How To Start A Blog

How did I begun blogging? Honestly, I can’t remember the details. I can’t even remember my first blog post. But this blog is not my first blog, this is not even the first title of this blog, this is far from what it was 10 years ago. OMG!!!!! I am a blogger for 10 years now.

I do remember though that whenever I had the chance to learn something new, I have this urge in me to share it to world. So it has been the fire that keeps this blog alive, the need to share and help others. Sorry na, may pagka epal talaga ako most of the times. I even opened a “tech” blog back then pero hindi ko naman na maintain.

How To Start A Blog? I am often asked by my friends, FB friends and followers. And often than not, I am lost for words. It’s not easy to summarize 10 years of blogging. But I do want to help. I want to encourage people, specially moms to start a blog.

Why start a blog? For one, it’s a great breathing post. Whenever you feel the need to talk but there’s no one to talk to except your baby and the dirty dishes (or unfolded laundry), a blog is a good listener.

Another reason, blogging, specially mommy blogging is very rewarding and somehow profitable. A year supply of detergent? Who would say no to that? Or even a month’s supple of your favorite milk. Those freebies can really help stretch the budget! And the event invites which is a good motivation to dress up and wear lipstick. Blogging builds confidence too.

Lastly, for me, it brings back a lot of memories, specially of my kids. It’s like a photo album only filled with words. What was it called? ah DIARY! When I feel down, I read my blog posts, and I feel better instantly. Blogging is therapeutic and you don’t have to pay that much!

I thought about my answer to question “How To Start A Blog” for a long time. And I feel like this is the best way to answer that question.. by answering a series of questions.

What do I need to do to start a blog?

Do I need money? Yes and No but we will get to that later. What do you really really really need to start a blog? What is that one thing you need to start a blog?

You need an EMAIL to start a blog.

That’s how you will start your blogging career or blogging journey. An email will be your access to everything. Already have a personal email? I would suggest not to use that.

Get a new email, the same name that you plan to use for your blog.

Blog name right away? Yes, its’ like having another child, you need to name it. If you can’t think of any name, just use your name and add Mommy or Mama.

3 MUST DO IN NAMING YOUR BLOG:

  • It should be short.
  • Check godaddy.com if still available as .com
  • Check gmail if the name you choose is still available.

Trust me on this threes, this is 10 years of blogging experience talking.

Where should I blog? WordPress?

So I heard to be a blogger, specially if you want brands or company to notice you, you need to start a blog in WordPress. NOT TRUE!

So I heard WordPress is more professional than any other blogging platforms. NOT TRUE!

I’ll make this simpler for all of you, in WordPress, you need to invest more money but you have access to almost anything that you will wish your website to have. But it doesn’t mean that it’s the only way to start a blog. Sometimes, the price plus the technicality of it discourages upcoming bloggers.

I prefer and always encourage new bloggers to use Blogspot or blogger.com. It’s a platform by Google and it’s free to set up. Using your new email, create a blog at Blogger.com

How much is the initial money that I need to spend to start a blog?

You can start a blog for free. NO COST At all. Just follow these steps:

  1. Think of a blog name.
  2. Create an email using that name.
  3. Sign up at Blogger.com and name your blog.
  4. Start blogging!

But blog with blogspot.com?

I want the same as my idol bloggers, their own dotcom.

That’s the good thing about blogger.com, you can have your own dotcom while using that platform. Not all people knows that. You just need to buy your own domain (that’s what it’s called) and a little click here and there and you have your own!

Here’s a detailed blog post on how to>> How to use your own dot com in your blogspot blog.

You will need at least 800 Pesos if you want your own domain name. But if you are lucky, godaddy usually have a sale of 50 pesos per domain. You will need to renew that domain yearly, rate is around 800 Pesos yearly.

What to write first to start blogging?

Kailangan ba English? Pwede ba ang Taglish? Hindi ako magaling sa grammar.

Kahit ano po. It’s your blog, your wordings. I prefer using taglish but since I also have readers that are not Filipino, I use English most of the times.

Hindi magaling sa grammar? Hindi din po ako magaling sa grammar. In fact, bagsak ako sa Comm subject ko in college. Practice makes perfect. And reading too!

What to write first? Start by answering these simple questions:

  • Who are you and name at least 3 things that you love doing.
  • Why did you start a blog?
  • Name at least 3 topics that you will most likely to talk about and how frequent do you plan to write on your blog?
  • A year from now, how do you yourself as a blogger? How many posts have you written by then?

How about Social Media? Facebook Page? Instagram and the likes?

If you really want to take blogging professionally, I highly suggest creating a Facebook Page, Instagram and Twitter page for your blog using the email and name of your blog. It’s called branding which can be discusses in another day, another blog post.

Blogger Media Kit: 3 Common Mistakes You Should Avoid

I was often asked about bloggers rate and sponsored post rates but not about bloggers media kit. How much to charge for a sponsored post? How much to charge if it includes social media posts? How much to charge for Facebook post only? Well, the social media rates is another topic, but what prompted me to start writing about bloggers media kit is the question “should I include my media kit with my rate card?” The answer is no.

Bloggers media kit and bloggers rate card should be treated differently. Media kit is all about you and your readers, where as rate card is what you can do and how much for each service. If you are struggling to create a rate card even after reading Blogger Rate Card: 3 Easy Steps by Mommy Blogger Pehpot, maybe you should start creating your Media kit first. Here’s a very simple tutorial on how to start your media kit> Blogger Media Kit: 3 Simple Steps To Make Your Own

Blogger Media Kit: 3 Common Mistakes You Should Avoid

Before you start creating a media kit, please take into consideration these 3 things that you should avoid. These are the things that will make your media kit look weak and unprofessional.

1. Avoid putting or mentioning your other blog. This a big  NO with media kit. Sure you can mention that you have an online shop or that you also love fashion but never commit the mistake of including or mentioning the link to your other blogs. It will take away the interest on the blog that are you trying to market. Para kang nag aalok ng Purefoods tapos babanggit ka ng Swift, ganyan ang dating.

2. Avoid putting too much text on your media kit. Limit the description to 2-3 sentences. If you are struggling with you should put on your media kit even after reading my post Blogger Media Kit: 3 Simple Steps To Make Your Own, shoot me an email and I may have something to make it easier for you (mommypehpot@gmail.com)

3. Always include your contact details specially your email address. Some of the media kits I have seen have too many words on it but nothing speaks on how to contact them. If an agency or a potential client got interested with you through your media kit, of course they will have to contact you to ask for your rate card.

Now that you know what to avoid, you are ready to make your own Media Kit!
