Meralco Bill Deposit

I just paid my Meralco bill a few days ago when I received another notice from them.. not a disconnection notice but a Bill Deposit due.. Meralco Bill Deposit?!? what the?!?

Another shocking thing about this bill is, I need to pay PhP4000+ in a month’s time or else my service will be disconnected,  yes even though I am paying my bill monthly.. it’s just plain unbelievable!

Meralco Bill Deposit

According to my notice, this is an annual updating of bill deposits as required by ERC Rules and Regulation. Here’s what the bill has to say about my Meralco Bill Deposit 4000 Php due:

Based on the comparison made between your bill deposit and average monthly bills for the past 12 months, your bill deposit has been determined insufficient. You will be required to pay an additional deposit.

Based on the notice, my average monthly bill is Php 7000+, which is also my required bill deposit amount but because I have 3000+ credits from existing bill deposits and net bill deposit interests, my due is only 4000 PhP.

After calming down, I read and re read the notice and learned that this annual updating has two implications:

First, the bill deposit annual updating where in it will have to be equal to the monthly average bill. If your average monthly bill exceeds your bill deposit, you will have to pay the excess or if your average monthly bill is less than your bill deposits, you are entitled to a refund.

Second, the deposits interest will be credited yearly to the bill.

Sample computation of Meralco Bill Deposit

Insufficient Deposit:
Average monthly bill (for one year) 800
Bill Deposit + Interest 650

Average monthly bill- Bill deposits (+interest) = 150 < additional bill deposit to be paid by the costumer

Excess Deposit:
Average monthly bill (for one year) 500
Bill Deposit + Interest 650

Average monthly bill- Bill deposits (+interest) = -150 < refund (credited to the bill)

Meralco website offered a more detailed FAQ’s on Meralco Bill Deposit and some explanations:

Meralco said that only 90,000 of its customers got letters this October notifying them of the need to pay additional bill deposit. It added that a majority of its customers are not expected to be covered by the update of bill deposits. The utility company clarified that only customers who have received at least three (3) disconnection notices or whose electric service has actually been disconnected in the past 12 months prior to their contract anniversary date have received these notification letters.

Customers who have been diligent in paying their electricity bills on or before due date, meanwhile, did not receive letters.

For all customers from whom additional bill deposit is required, Meralco will implement a collection scheme to make the payment easier for them. From the original period of 30 days to settle their deposit insufficiency, Meralco has manifested before the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) that it will instead stagger the collection over a period of 12 months starting January 2013. This collection period will also apply to customers who will receive notification letters in November and December.

The bill deposit is an amount required from customers of all distribution utilities as a guarantee for payment of electric bills. The bill deposit and its annual update are based on the provisions of the Magna Carta for Residential Consumers and the Distribution Services and Open Access Rules (DSOAR) for Residential and Non-residential Consumers, which Meralco is implementing.

So that’s what we got for my procrastination..every month, I pay our Meralco bills only after receiving our disconnection notice.. never thought it would have a bad effect on our bill.. maybe I should apply for online payment to prevent this thing from happening again.

The Best Milk Tea Flavor and Milk Tea House

Milk tea is getting more popular and more milk tea houses are sprouting like mushrooms. Of course nothing beats the traditional milk tea, just like what we had at Waiying Restaurant.

If you remember pearl shakes in the 90’s, milk tea seems to be the new drink in town. I guess the same element of pearl or having to chew on something while drinking is what made both drinks popular. With milk tea though, more and more sinkers (as it was called) are offered. You can choose from pearl, nata de coco, pudding or even red beans.

I discovered milk tea rather really late, just a few months ago and back then, I was lost and overwhelmed with the many offerings on each store. Basically there are 4 steps in choosing your milk tea: type of milk tea, size, sugar level and sinkers. There are many different kinds of milk tea, some are caramel based or flavored. As for size, there’s the usual small, medium and large. When it comes to sugar level, 100% is the sweetest (gives me headache). I always go for 25% but 50% seems to be the safe option. Sinkers can vary from pearl to nata de coco, pudding etc.

As what’s the best milk tea in town, Serenitea has come up with their top 10:

I have tried Okinawa, Hokkaido, Nagoya and Wintermelon. I love Wintermelon the most (large, 25% sugar, nata de coco). I love it so much that I can consume two large cups in one sitting. It was my favorite drink while working or while playing at partycasino.com. I still have to try the other top on Serenitea’s list.

”

Obviously, Serenitea is my favorite milk tea house but I also tried other tea houses and this is what I can say:
Cha Time is more milk than tea(acording to my taste) but my husband loves their pearl so much. Their pearl is just right, not too chewable but not too soft.
Moon Leaf, I only tried one of their drinks with nata de coco and it’s too flavorful for me.
YTree offers the most chewable pearl of all the milk tea houses I have been to the point that your jaw will hurt. But I super love their rock salt and cheese wintermelon milk tea. Unlike Happy Lemon where the cheese is on top, Ytree offers it mixed with the drink. I just love the fact that every time I sip, different taste welcomes my tongue.
Happy Lemon is the place to be when you love creamy, creamy and creamy. The first time I try it, my tummy cried.. too much milk I guess.
So how about you? what’s your favorite milk tea flavor and milk tea house?

Protect Your Baby Against Diaper Rash With Johnson’s® Baby Complete Care Diaper System™

Diaper Rash is never welcome on any mom’s home.. or baby’s bottom to be exact. I am lucky that with four kids, I never experienced diaper rash. For one, we don’t use diapers that often and if we do, I always make sure that the bottom is clean (using Johnson’s® Baby Wipes and applies Johnson’s® baby powder after changing.

I have learned from Dr. Dizon of the Pediatric Dermatology Society of the Philippines that any healthy baby skin can be compromised due to the following factors:

  • Excess skin wetness
  • Feces and fecal enzymes
  • Interaction of feces and urine
  • Increased pH leading to greater fecal enzymes and activity and
  • increased skin permeability

And may lead to diaper rash because of the following factors:

  • Fecal enzymes
  • Skin friction
  • Candida albicans (yeast infection)
  • Unidentified chemical irritants

Dr. Dizon also made some points on the cleansing regimen such as the incidence of diaper rash using just water and wash cloth alone is higher vs. using wipes with emollient and that use of powder is beneficial.

Yes powder, talc, which was recently classified as “not classifiable as a human carcinogen” by the US American Congress of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH).

Cleaning for your baby’s bottom has been simplified with three steps, The Johnson’s® Baby Complete Care Diaper System™. An easy way to help protect your baby against diaper rash:

Step 1: Wipe
It is important to remember that not all wipes are the same. Johnson’s® Baby Skincare Wipes effectively protects your baby’s bottom because it doesn’t just clean, it helps prevent diaper rash like a diaper cream.

Step 2: Powder
Johnson’s® Baby Complete Care powder repels wetness by keeping pee and poop from touching the baby’s bottom. It also soothes rashes and helps reduce friction, giving baby complete protection from diaper rash.

Step 3: Change
Regular diaper changing every 3-4 hours is important to keep baby’s bottom clean and dry to minimize skin rashes and irritation in the diaper area.

For new moms and soon to be mommies, Johnson’s® Baby Complete Care Diaper System™ is a big help in terms of diaper rash management. Oh well, Johnson’s® was like mom’s partner in raising a child, my 9 year old boy still uses Johnson’s® Baby products (from shampoo to bath to cologne!). Learn more about the Johnson’s® Baby Complete Care Diaper System™ through Johnson’s® Philippines Facebook Page.
