How To Maximize Your Bedroom Space

Small, pokey bedrooms can be a problem – it’s hard to relax properly when you feel cramped, and your storage options can feel restricted in a small room. However, by following a few tips you can make what little space you have go a lot further – you’ll be surprised at the difference you can make!

1.       Maximise floor space

This means de-cluttering the room as much as possible – get rid of any unnecessary furniture and area rugs, as unbroken floor space makes the room appear bigger. If you’re redesigning the room, consider using wood or laminate flooring instead of carpet, which reflects light and makes the room appear bigger.

2.       Make use of storage

Wall shelving helps to move items away from the floor area and makes good use of the vertical space you have in the room. A laundry basket stops clothes piling up on the floor. One off the best and most efficient solutions is to get a storage bed – these have space underneath the mattress where you can keep all sorts of things, from foldable clothes to suitcases and even books!

3.       Scale furniture to the room’s size

A sure-fire way to make a room feel cramped is to fill it with bulky furniture. You can still have a writing desk, bedside tables and chests of drawers, but make sure they’re slimline and compact if they’re destined for a small room. This goes for your bed too – consider dropping down from a king to a double if your bed is hogging all the floorspace.

4.       Redecorate!

Patterns may look pretty, but they also make a room look smaller. Repaint the walls in a simple white, cream or icy blues and do the same with your bedroom furniture – or leave it as plain wood which gives a similar light and airy effect. Try to favour light colours when redecorating, or at least brighten the place up with light bed linen.

5.       Use natural lighting

If you have large windows in a small room, make the most of them to make the room feel bigger – by letting more sunlight flow into the room, you will really open up the interior. Use sheer window coverings and avoid bulky curtains: simple roller blinds are better for controlling light without compromising on space. Wall mirrors can also make the room appear larger.

What’s For Dessert, Ranchers?

We’ll be having our Christmas party this weekend..yay! The Ranchers was formed almost a year ago.. with the need to rant and lunch out.. hence the term RANCHERS. It’s great having friends you can see occasionally.. real people you can talk to (and not just  PMs or chat), and people who will listen to your rants and what not. And I am so glad to have friends like them!

I’m planning to cook pancit canton, shrimp with garlic and maybe siomai (frozen and I’ll just steam it) and fried rice.. yu know I cook well..but when it comes to dessert.. oh please forgive, my knowledge is limited to leche flan, ube halaya and macaroni salad. I can’t prepare leche flan oreven ube halaya for our party (ayoko magka kulani sa kili kili no!).. and the macaroni salad, we’re preparing for our Noche Buena. So what’s for dessert for our Christmas Party?

I’m thinking Buco Salad, since mahilig naman sa buco ang mga bata and this will be the first time I’ll prepare this. Good thing, Nestle Cream launched it’s Holidays made delightful with NESTLÉ Cream on Nestle Cream Facebook Page. Recipe cards filled with the most mouth-watering creamy desserts and savory dishes are being posted on the page. And yes, Buco Salad was one of the recipes posted!

Sino ba ang hindi matatakam sa recipe card na ito? Na excite tuloy ako gumawa ng Creamy Buco PaSalad! The ingredients are not hard to find ha (buti every morning anjan si Manong Buco) and the procedure is so easy!

So my dear friends, we will have a buco salad on our party.. oh I mean CREAMY BUCO SALAD!

And to you my dear readers, kung feeling mo kulang pa ang listahan ng handa mo this Noche Buena, you may want to visit  fr mouth watering recipes, take note ha, hindi lang dessert ang makikita nyo doon.

Update us on your Nestle Cream handa!

The DIY Princess

Whenever I am in the middle of a DIY project, I would question myself, what am I doing? Why do I need to stress myself this much? What’s the whole sense of it? I can just buy.. that would be easy!

Then again, the need to finish the project overwhelms me. It is too powerful that even back, neck and shoulder pains won’t be able to stop it. Of course,  I have a mantra: I can do it! I can do it! I can do it! (yes 3x of that phrase)

Seriously? Why am I really doing this? Say for example the little boxes I did today..2 dozens of those.. one dozen red and one dozen gold. Those boxes were made (OK I may add, painfully but lovingly made) to serve as ornaments for our Christmas Tree (which according to my 3rd boy, should be Christmas 100 a few years from now.. got it?) I spent the whole day making those boxes, not included is the whole day for planning and cutting.. so in all that’s two days! Just for those boxes.. why did I ever thought of doing it when in fact buying Christmas ornaments would be easy.. honestly, I really don’t know.

I am not sure if it is my OCD that’s telling me go through the stress.. and I don’t know, too, if it is my OCD that’s giving me a pat in the back every time I finished a DIY project.. saying it’s all worth the effort, the stress and the back pain. convinced myself that much! hahaha

But yeah.. everything is worth it! talk about self gratification..there is so much about do it yourself projects! Specially diy projects for occasions like Christmas or Birthdays (remember DIY tutu? and DIY paper bags for birthday loots? or how about our Pinata collection? ).

They say, diy-ing is a talent.. and if it is, I am more than blessed to have it and have kids to practice this talent!

Hey, I am not running for being the next DIY Queen, but I’m a DIY princess on my own diy world! *wink!
