Sobra Last Na, Promise

The kids know how to get what they want.. If I gave them some treats, they would ask for more and say, “Last na, Mommy.” then after a while would say, “Sobra Last na, Mommy” and so on using all the superlative they can think of.

When it comes to having kids, some couples also use this technique and I had to admit, we used to say that too. Last na to.. sobra last na.. promise last na talaga.. but we end up with four kids. For those who are not comfortable with using any birth control method, why don’t you try permanent birth control method so we can finally say, Last na talaga sobra!

Permanent Birth Control Method is for women who no longer want to have kids, in short, Last na talaga sobrang sobra!

There are two methods of sterilizing a woman, one is non surgical and the other one is surgical. Based on my readings, the non surgical method is very quick. An anesthesia is given to the woman and with the use of tiny devices, a scar is created inside the Fallopian tube and this scar blocks the tube, which of course prevents the egg cell and sperm cell from meeting.

The other method of sterilization is the surgical method and this was discussed to me by my OB Gyne. This is called Tubal Ligation and this is one of the most effective permanent birth control as it makes women sterile, permanently. Although there are cases that the ligation can be reversed, getting pregnant again is very slim and can lead to complication (such as ectopic pregnancy).

My OB Gyne said that the procedure is not painful at all but this one is considered a major operation. To be more practical, tubal ligation can be performed right after child birth (works best for CS deliveries). The recovery can be painful though, as the tubes are cut off and the uterus are contracting, somehow, the contraction is pulling the tubes and that hurts.. just imagining it now, it makes me want to throw up. The procedure is done by opening your lower abdomen (like in CS) and your reproductive organ is exposed. The Fallopian tubes are tied and cut off. The tubes is like your egg cell’s road to meet your partner’s sperm cell.. and with that cut, the meeting will never happen.

But wait! Permanent Birth Control Method is not only for women, there is also one for men.

Vasectomy. OK let me repeat it with  more emphasis.. VASECTUHMEEEH.. yeah it’s like Vasec to me! And why not when this one is a lot cheaper and quicker than the two permanent birth control methods mentioned above.

This has been discussed to me by my OB Gyne too. She said that Vasectomy is a minor surgery and most often than not, the patient is treated as out patient. It’s as easy as the patient goes in, the doctor inject something, then open a small part on the reproductive area of the patient, cut a little then close it. The scar is usually covered with a band aid. Now how convenient is that huh?

Very convenient right? and why don’t we all have a vasectomy right now? You missed it no? I said this one is for men.

And Not Just Half Of Our Body

My grandmother has 14 kids.. and people say that’s where I got my genes. But nah, I don’t think I can give birth that much. And those days, there’s no painless or twilight birthing method yet. It’s all about giving birth the naturally way, all the labor pains, the pushing and even the post partum without the pain relievers. I don’t think I can survive that much pain, given that I have a very low pain tolerance.

Thinking about it now, I am amazed how she was able to give birth to 14 kids without posing threat to her health. I remember my OB Gyne telling me, during my 4th pregnancy, that I am already at risk. She said that my uterus lining is already thin and we need to manage my post partum contraction to prevent hemorrhage.

Let’s be more familiar with contraction.. this post might make you cringe, so please bear with me. When a women is about to give birth, it’s uterus starts to contract to make way for the coming of the baby. As the baby goes down, the cervix starts to dilate, and that mommies is when you hear the 1cm, 5 cm and 10 cm measurement. The opening of the cervix is measured and this signals if the mommy is ready to push, push, push (and scream on the side).

After giving birth, the uterus should continue to contract to stop bleeding. If the uterus did not contract, this might result to hemorrhage or blood lose. When I gave birth to Sati (my 4th child), we had to manage the contraction. As advised by my OB Gyne, we applied cold compress so that my uterus would contract. I experienced heavy blood flow during that time and was really worried about my health. It was the first time that happened to me. I am just glad that I am done with it.

Hemorrhage is just one of the many complications that a mother faces during child birth. Infection is another complication that women face during childbirth. Remember the saying that when a mom gives birth, half of her body is in the pit? No, it’s not true. When a mom gives birth, she is in danger as a whole.
