There’s nothing quite like freshly baked cookies to brighten anyone’s day! Even though no one specifically requested it, I decided to bake a batch of my favorite Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies—perfect for sharing with my lunch date and a sweet way to stand by my Alagang Mommy Pehpot mantra. These cookies strike the perfect balance between the rich sweetness of chocolate and the comforting texture of oatmeal.

Want to know the secret to these mouth-watering cookies? Let me walk you through the recipe and tips I personally swear by.

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookie Ingredients and Special Tips

These Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies have a few small twists that make all the difference in texture and flavor. Here are a few of my go-to preferences:

  • Softened butter over melted butter: Using softened butter instead of melted keeps the dough thick and makes the cookies chewier.
  • Salted butter, no added salt: I skip the extra salt and opt for salted butter to streamline the recipe. It adds just the right touch without overpowering the sweetness.
  • Pure brown sugar only: Brown sugar gives these cookies a deeper, richer flavor, and helps keep the cookies soft and chewy.

Now, let’s get baking!

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter (salted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large bowl, mix 1 ½ cups of brown sugar with 1 cup of softened butter until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Add the vanilla and eggs: Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, followed by the eggs, mixing until everything is well combined.
  3. Incorporate the dry ingredients: Gradually mix in 2 ½ cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Be careful not to overmix, as this can affect the cookie texture.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips: Finally, stir in 2 cups of chocolate chips, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Baking Options:

  • You can bake the cookies right away or store the dough in the freezer for a day or two for even more developed flavors. Just thaw before baking!
  • Baking time: Place your cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake at 190°C for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Let them cool for a few minutes before indulging!

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies: A Sweet Treat Anytime

These Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies are perfect for any occasion—whether it’s a spontaneous baking session for loved ones or a tasty gift to bring to a lunch date. The combination of chocolate chips with oatmeal adds just the right texture and sweetness. Plus, this recipe is versatile: you can adjust the baking time for softer or crispier cookies based on your preference!

While having your unique style in keeping things in your kitchen, it wouldn’t hurt to have a couple of useful hacks on hand, especially this coming holiday season. Below we have listed some straightforward kitchen hacks that you are going to wish that you should have known earlier.

Hack #1 Use a paper towel to keep your greens fresh

There’s nothing more frustrating than seeing your greens wilting even after keeping it on your fridge. To make your greens last for an extended period, wrap them with a paper towel and place them in a plastic container. The paper towel is handy for absorbing excess moisture coming from your greens while the container prevents your greens from getting crushed.

Hack #2 Use marshmallow to keep your brown sugar soft

For those who love to bake, keeping brown sugar soft at all times is quite challenging, especially if you don’t have the proper storage for it. To ensure that the sugar doesn’t harden, store it in an airtight container and put at least two pieces of marshmallow on top of it. You could also use a slice of bread as an excellent alternative to marshmallow. It will keep your sugar soft and ensure it doesn’t harden over time.

Hack #3 Use the oven for cooking hard boil eggs

If you haven’t mastered the boiling water method, then using the oven to cook hard boil eggs is an excellent alternative, especially if you have to boil a lot of eggs at the same time hard. To do this trick, heat the eggs in the oven for at least 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Then gently submerge the eggs in ice water for another 10 minutes.

Hack #4 Use a dry towel to dry your fish before cooking

To cook the fish perfectly can be tricky, especially if you want the browning to stand out. One way to get it right is by patting your fish dry using a paper towel before putting the fish on the hot pan. The paper towel removes the excess moisture from the fish that prevents it from browning. By getting rid of the wetness of your fish, it makes the browning to stand out much easier.

Hack #5 Use a plastic or metal container to peel garlic cloves quickly and easily

We all know that peeling garlic can be incredibly time-consuming, especially if you have to peel lots of it. To easily peel garlic gloves quickly, break the bulb of garlic into individual cloves, then place them into a plastic or metal container and vigorously shake the garlic. If cloves are still difficult to release, shake longer and more vigorously.

Knowing these simple yet straightforward kitchen hacks can be very useful. Try it and you’ll surely appreciate them.

Cleaning Tips For Your Dirty Kitchen

Lots of moms would agree that the kitchen is one of the busiest parts of the house. And while cooking and preparing food alone is already a daunting task, cleaning the kitchen would be a lot more challenging. Not to mention also your kitchen fixtures, furniture, and kitchen walls that need cleaning as well. To help you with some useful cleaning tips, below, I have listed some fantastic ways to clean your dirty kitchen quickly.

Clean your kitchen from top to bottom

It is still best to follow the old rule when it comes to cleaning your kitchen by cleaning it from top to bottom and front to back. This approach has already proven to save you time and avoid doubling up your cleaning. For example, cleaning the counter without cleaning the top of the stove would only cause you to clean the counter again since debris will most likely fall. I recommend cleaning your ceiling and corners of walls first with a dust mop. Don’t forget to clean the wall against grease, grime, and spilled food.

Use hot water to clean your dishes easily

Having a sink full of dishes can be tiring to look at, but the real challenge is when you try to scrub the food out from them. Scrubbing the food and grease off the dishes is both challenging and time-consuming. To make it easier, fill your sink with hot water together with a squirt of liquid dishwashing soap. Let your dishes soak for at least 15 minutes, so the food and grease would lose its grip. Using this cleaning tip, you can easily wash your dishes with ease.

Use baking soda and vinegar to make your sink shine again

Having a shiny kitchen sink is an excellent motivator for most moms since it makes your kitchen look very clean. To easily remove stains from the sink, apply baking soda on the sink’s surface using a damp sponge. It can effectively remove stains without the need for scratching the sink’s surface. Thoroughly wash the sink with water to remove the baking soda then spray vinegar all over the sink to dissolve calcium deposits. Rinse the sink again with water, and you’ll be surprised to see that your sink will shine again like new.

Use baking soda and vinegar to clean your kitchen tiles

A lot of cleaning experts say that you can clean your entire house as long as you have your baking soda on your side. And that also includes not just your bathroom tiles but your kitchen tiles as well. The grout between the tiles will become discolored and look dirty as time passes by, and it will start to become sore to the eyes. To clean it easily, combine your baking soda with a little bit of water to create a paste and apply it all over the tiles and the grout. Let the paste sit in for at least 10 minutes before spraying the vinegar. Scrub the tiles and grout using a toothbrush to remove all the stains to make it look clean and fresh.
