Vicks, World’s #1 Cough and Cold Management Brand

This is my bff during my first trimester (and as my lullaby during my college years). my saviour when even the smell of perfume can turn my stomach upside down.. and the smell of rice being cooked is just too much.. Vicks made my 1st trim pregnancy life a lot easier!

But we all know Vicks is more than that! Vicks is the world’s #1 Cough and Cold Management Brand. All your needs to manage coughs and cold, Vicks has it!

Vicks Vaporub

The “star” of Vicks line.. uhmm if you know what I mean. I am sure each one of us, may kwento about Vicks. My earliest memory of Vicks was when I was 5, very sick and with a very high fever. I can’t sleep.. and I was delirious. It was only through this menthol that I was able to calm down. Up until now, I still use Vicks for my fever, colds, cough and to soother my throat from tonsillitis. I also use this for my kids Vicks Vaporub is safe for kids 2 years old and up.

Vicks Vaporub can also be used as MEDICATED VAPOUR to relieve NASAL CONGESTION: Fill a bowl with hot water (not boiling!) and add 2 teaspoonfuls of VapoRub. Let your sick loved one gently inhale the vapours to clear blocked noses and ease breathing difficulties. You may repeat this up to four times a day but discard bowl contents each time (do not reheat) & supervise the kids!

Vicks Inhaler

I am familiar with Vicks Inhaler but never really got to try it. It is usually used as temporary relief from nasal congestion. Yan ang pinaka ayaw ko pag mnay sipin eh… ung hindi ka na makahinga..this is the best option specially if you’re always on the go. With its compact size, you can be sure na may instant relief ka from nasal congestion due to colds.

How to use? Use as often as needed. Inhale medicated vapors through a nostril while holding the other nostril closed. Inhale deeply to make breathing feel clear and cool.

Vicks Inhaler is safe to use for kids 6 years old and up.

Vicks VapoCool

Vicks VapoCool doesn’t taste like Vicks Vaporub… honestly, I thought it would haha. It really has a cooling effect on the throat. I only got to try the Menthol flavor though. It comes in Peppermint and Butter Menthol too!

According to Vicks website: Vicks VapoCool is a specially formulated throat drop designed to give active throats 2-in-1 cooling and refreshing relief with a burst of extra cooling “Levo-menthol” that provides icy cooling sensations.

Vicks VapoCool is safe for kids 2 years old and up.. but please be mindful when giving this to young children.. you might want to break it into pieces to avoid choking.

Vicks Formula 44

I was surprised to learn that Vicks also has a cough syrup! According to their website: Vicks Dry Cough Control contains dextromethorphan hydrobromide, a cough suppressant that provides quick and long-lasting relief from dry cough for up to 6 to 8 hours.

I still have to ask my pedia about it but it says on the product info that Vicks Formula Cough Control is OK to kids ages 6 and up. Have you tried it? Please tell me how was your experience with Vicks Formula Cough Control.

The Vicks products sent to me comes with these:

The ultimate kit for coughs and colds management! Now, managing colds and coughs are easier with Vicks!

Pregnancy Journey: My Bladder Is Full But I Can’t Pee!

Just a few days after learning that one of our baby vanished (related story: Vanishing Twin Syndrome is Real), I was rushed to Cardinal Santos because I can’t pee. Actually, I have been experiencing it for the past few days prior to our ER trip. The difference is, I was only experiencing it in the morning. First pee is really hard but after that first one, I’m good all day. That day is different.. I can feel my bladder is full but nothing comes out when I try to pee! It was very frustrating, not painful but frustrating. I endured that feeling for hours because I am not comfortable going to The Medical City Emergency Room. Our last trip there was not really good.. they were not able to make me feel better, in fact they made me feel worse. With my urgency to pee but nothing is coming out, I know I couldn’t deal with the TMC people. When I can’t take it anymore, we decided to take our chance at TMC er but then realized we can try Cardinal Santos since it’s also near our place.

At first I thought there’s a stone blocking my urethra or that I’m passing a kidney stone… but after draining me of 750 m of urine (by catheter), the urinalysis is clear.

So what happened to me?

As it turns out, this is a normal thing during the 13th weeks of pregnancy. The uterus is blocking my urethra or bladder. As the baby grows, the uterus will move away from the bladder and I won’t experience it anymore (HOPEFULLY!)

After a few hours at Cardinal Santos, we were discharged as a very happy and contented client. This is going to be our hospital for now! The look, specially the ER is far from TMC..pero naman, the service is far far far better than TMC!

And after that trip, my bladder is OK! I can now pee at ease.. uhmm not after the first few hours without catheters.. ang sakit pala after ahuhuhu

If you’re pregnant (specially week 12- 15) and afraid of experiencing this, here’s some advice from the web and from my own experience:

  • always lie on your left side ( I remember that the day it happened, I slept on my right side the whole night)
  • don’t hold your pee, specially at night… if you need to go, get up and pee (I usually hold my pee because I’m sleepy!)
  • don’t drink too much water before sleeping so you don’t have to pee and get up that often (I usually drink 2-3 glasses of water before going to bed thinking it will do me good)
  • Eat and eat so the baby will grow faster!

It was the most frustrating experience I had during this pregnancy and I don’t want anyone to experience it too! Spread the word if you know someone who’s also on their 1st trimester to prevent it from happening to them.
