Something For The Boys: VASECTOMY

This is not one of our option so stop giggling. I just want to include this because it is a permanent kind of birth control. Just a head start, this will be my (almost) first copy paste article. Of course I will mention my sources so you can’t accuse me of plagiarism.LOL

What is VASECTOMY?

Mr Wiki says: Vasectomy (or deferentectomy) is a minor surgical procedure wherein the vasa deferentia of a man are severed, and then tied or sealed in a manner such to prevent sperm from entering the seminal stream (ejaculate).

eMEd Health says: Vasectomy is a procedure in which the two tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the urinary tract are surgically altered so sperm cannot pass through and be released to fertilize a woman’s egg during sexual intercourse. For couples who have made the decision not to have any further children, vasectomy is the safest and easiest form of surgical sterilization. While reversible in many cases, vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of birth control.

Pehpot says: TUBAL LIGATION please!

I know relatively VASECTOMY is a lot cheaper than TUBAL LIGATION but it is not the cost that I am after. The culture here in the Philippines is very patriarchal and the thought of not being able to produce offspring can be disturbing to men. Don’t tell me about men being superficial and being shallow, we are battling a 300 or more years of tradition and culture. It takes a lot of courage to undergo vasectomy here in the country. And it takes a lot of understanding to go through life with the thought that you cannot bear children anymore. To some they view impotence as uselessness. I don’t care what my husband thinks but I am pretty sure that I don’t want him to go through VASECTOMY.

Anyway, what’s your view on this? specially the guys? Are you willing to undergo VASECTOMY?

Let’s Talk About Partial Hysterectomy

From my article about Tubal Ligation, a very nice lady commented her views about it (it’s Aria!). From here comment, I can sense some discomfort on her part. I researched more and asked around about their Tubal Ligation experiences. I am still gathering information, maybe I will post a first hand information by Friday. I was curious about Partial Hysterectomy (again thanks to Aria). And being a curious cat, I cannot let this one pass. So indulge with me as again I flood your MWF nights with endless medical terms and illustrations.

Let us first define HYSTERECTOMY. It is surgical operation where in a Gynecologist removes the uterus and the cervix. (ouch!) Removal of the uterus can mean only one thing, no more childbirth so this can be considered as a permanent birth control. My research brought me to believe that Hysterectomy is not mainly done to gain permanent birth control. In most cases it is done to prevent cancer cell build ups. In most cases it is done because something came up (like placenta praevia) or for transmen (sex transition to become a man) as part of their sexual transformation.

How about Partial Hysterectomy? Literally, partial means not whole or just a part, so it follows that when you speak of Partial Hysterectomy it means partial removal of the uterus.

I have to stop right now because I am cringing… sorry guys. I can’t be a doctor! waaah!!!

If you have more information about Hysterectomy or Partial Hysterectomy, feel free to comment on the grossest technical (medical) way. On Wednesday, let’s take a look on another permanent birth control, and this time it’s for the boys! yay!

How Was Tubal Ligation For You?

Just so you  know guys, I am delivering Sati by normal childbirth. I talked about EPIDURAL because I am planning to undergo Tubal Ligation. Now a comment from one of my blogging friend (Aria of Aria’z Ink) made me think twice. She mentioned another permanent birth control method and I think I will research more about it and will post about it next week.

Meanwhile I am on looking for fellow Mommies who already had tubal ligation before. how does it feel? I really want to know first hand experiences. If you have an experience with tubal ligation and is not occupied with chores and screaming, please do answer some of inquiries below, you can make a blog post about it (with a link here and I will put it on a list) so we can make a good reference material for Mommies who are considering Tubal Ligation too.

Why did you decide to undergo Tubal Ligation?

What is it that finalized your decision?

How did the operation went? Did you have Tubal Ligation after delivery or you just had it?

How was it after the anesthesia wears down? How about days after?

How was it 6 months after? Did you feel any changes in your body? How about your sexual desire?

How was it years after?

Did you feel any regret after all these years? Do you think it was worth it? If given a chance will you undergo Tubal Ligation Reversal?

Will you recommended it to other Moms? If not do you have any suggestion on birth control?

I hope at lest two or three moms out there would answer my inquiry.. and I hope Aria too 🙂
