Memories Of Christmas List

Host: It’s been a week since our last episode and I really missed you guys. But of course we cannot ask for more from pehpot specially now that she is maintaining 8 blogs. WHAT!?! 8 blogs! How is she doing it? Book her now! I wanna interview her and know how she handles it all. And I am pretty sure you all want to. Even our guest blogger today for sure, wants to know the blogging schedule of pehpot. Itching to know who’s our guest blogger for today?

Let’s all welcome the beautiful mom (who almost made it Ms Philippines beauty contest) behind Memories Preserved Online. Give her a round of applause.. welcome to the show Paula!

Paula: Thanks and also thanks to Pehpot for inviting me here at her show. She told me we will talk about my kid and how me and S handle his Christmas “list”. I wonder why she invited my here, maybe because she had no blogging friends left to invite (I was just kidding and pehpot knows that). Honestly, I am really glad that I am here.

Host: Haha, I am sure she invited because she likes you. And yes our topic for today is about gift buying, so let me ask you, are you done shopping for you kid’s Christmas gifts?

Paula: Are you kidding? We can never be done shopping with our kid. As long as Z’s dad feels he’s still a kid we’ll always be buying him toys. It’s a year long event, I tell you. Last November, his dad bought him a gift that was supposedly for Christmas. Of course, dad couldn’t help but give it to him as soon as he got home. Now that Christmas is approaching we feel it would not be appropriate for him not to open any gift on Christmas day so we’ll surely buy another one which hopefully, will stay unopened till Christmas day.

Host: I think all parents like that. I heard even Pehpot already gave their gifts for their kids and yet they were thinking of buying them gifts to open this coming Christmas. So did you give in to his demands? Like buying the toys he want? But before answering that, we have a surprise intermission number.. surprise! surprise!

Host: Whoa! Is that you husband? Is he a professional singer?

Paula: Pehpot told you about it? He is not, but he really likes to perform. Hi S!

Host: Ahaha, but his good, you must be very proud of him. Back to our topic.. So did you give in to his demands? Like buying the toys he want?

Paula: Fortunately, Z is really not that specific with his gifts as long as you give him a toy car then he’s okay with it. Z is so agreeable with his mom and dad when it comes to toys. We can convince him easily that this or that is the perfect toy and he’ll agree. So usually what dad wants, what Z gets. Or when I feel we ought to buy him something educational instead then I’m the one that does the convincing. LOL!

Host: How do you deal with Z when he wants something that is beyond you budget? Or when he wants something and you don’t think it is practical to buy it, how do you explain it to him?

Paula:We don’t let him hold it! As far as Z is concerned a toy isn’t his until we let him hold it. If something caught his fancy and it’s beyond our budget then we just tell him outright it’s too expensive. We’re fortunate that he, even in his young mind, understands that we can’t buy every toy he likes. We can even visit a toy store and not buy a single toy. To tell you the truth I’m already overwhelmed with the number of toys he has and I think Z himself can see that. We don’t have any problem with him in buying toys at all or maybe because he’s only four and is still in the “agreeable” stage.

Host: Lucky for you, he can easily understands those things and would throw into a tantrum when he wants something..or did he has any “best actor performance” that you can remember?

Paula: There was one time when he did have a tantrum. We were in MOA and it was only in the checkout counter that I saw he’s holding a toy. We already bought him one that’s expensive so I removed that toy from his hand. When we were outside the store he started crying loudly which took us aback because he never makes a scene. That’s when we realized it was bad to let him hold something we won’t buy in the end. I don’t even remember what how we got him to stop crying it was certainly hard to reason with a heartbroken little kid but I know he eventually forgot about it and we did learn our lesson.

Host: Awww. It really is hard to explain to anyone on that stage even on adults..LOL.. Thank you so much Paula for gracing our show.

Handling Their Christmas Wish List

As part of the Filipino Christmas Tradition (or even other nation’s tradition) it is a must that we give gifts to our kids. My kids, knowing this is the time of the year where they can ask almost anything, asked for a climber and a slide. They also asked for bike. The thing is, it is beyond our budget. We saw a climber and a slide in a toy sale and it cost $300+ (16K in PhP). I can’t imagine spending that much for a toy. Good thing that my kids can understand the word NO and a little explaining can do the trick.

We told them that it is not practical to buy that toy since we have little space here. And the bikes they were asking for is not advisable for them since it would just gather rust just like the bikes we bought last year. They got my point and settled for Mega Blocks which we already bought last week.

Kids can be picky when you asked them what kind of gifts they want. They would ask for gifts that won’t even last a day or gifts that is worth your whole month salary. How do you say no to their whims? Especially if you think the toy is not practical or that is not within your budget?

NO is a very strong word for kids so as much as possible do not use it. Use logic when you think you have to use. If they want something and you don’t think it is good for them, explain it to them and give them alternative. Like for example they are asking you to buy them a toy car which you think will not last an hour o two. Tell them about the quality of the toy, explain to them that they would enjoy it as much because it is of low quality. And give them alternative divert their attention to a toy that is a better choice.

It always works for me, that’s why they got more than a thousand of building blocks. Aside from my obsessions with Mega Blocks, this is so worth it. They never got tired of playing it. Everyday is a new day to play and build creatures or robots or house or even castles!

Check out my article my TOY BUYING GUIDE and try it if it will work with you and your kids. Happy Shopping!

Mommy Moments: First Time Mommy

mommy moments

The theme for this is week is YOUR mommy moments. So does it mean that today is our day? We set the kids aside and just talk about us? Hmm.. but I just can’t make a post about me.. me is equal to my four kids, when you say mommy, it always comes with the word kid.

So I cheat. I ask Mommy Chris what can I have for this week’s meme and she said I cna have any moment that I never posted before. She even suggested making a post about Sati. Here is my Mommy Moments for this week: First Time Mommy to a baby girl.

That is our first photo together, my first picture with my baby girl, Sati. Don’t mind my messy hair, I am too excited to have a photoshoot with her.
