How To Clean Squid (Adobong Pusit Friday)

Dear Nanay,

Bakit napakasarap ng Adobong Pusit mo? sabi mo kagabi magpapayat na ako pero bakit nagluto ka ng NAPAKASARAP na adobong pusit?

Love,
ang matakaw mong anak

P.S.
mas masarap to kung nasa dagat tayo at sariwang sariwa ang pusit..

Adobong Pusit..t hat’s our lunch fro today.. and when I thought my adobong pusit is good, here comes my mother’s adobong pusit..

This dish is one of my husband’s comfort food (mine’s chili con carne.. one of the best I had was during a tour at Faith Academy.. more to that next week).. and though I never really liked the dish, I just have to learn how to cook it..today my mom cooked the dish as requsted by hubby. Normally, I would skip the dish but seeing I have no choice I took one bit.. and ohhhhhh paano nya nagawa yon?? bat sobrang sarap?!?

Sorry, no photos for today.. I know I really can’t be a food blogger, my stomach’s more powerful than my DSLR hehehe

But  I have something food and squid related to share to you this Friday and that’s How To Clean Squid:

Take out the head of the squid. Of course, you need to wash the squid first.

When you take out the head, look for the tint and carefully remove it.. leave it there if you love your adobong pusit black.

Next is to remove the teeth of the squid. On the part where the tentacles are attached, squeeze it a bit to expose the teeth, when you  locate it, squeeze it more to remove it.

Most squid have two, so better make sure that those are removed.

As for the Adobong Pusit recipe.. I still have to ask my mother and will share once I perfected it 🙂

was to sleepy after eating my mother’s pusit that I slept the whole afternoon and forgot about pallet rack, something that I need read.. now I need to exercise harder!

POTW: SNUZA Mobile Baby Movement Monitor

When I was pregnant with my first born, I collected books about pregnancy, giving birth, breastfeeding and of course child care. One of the scariest word I encountered and made me worry so much is SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

What is SIDS?

SIDS is the sudden death of an infant under one year of age which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation, including performance of a complete autopsy, examination of the death scene, and review of the clinical history. (source)

Can you imagine checking your sleeping baby then finding out that the baby is already dead? That’s the most heartbreaking scenario any mom can experience.. knowing that the baby was taken from them without a fight.. so sudden..

It can be prevented as experts still does not know what causes SIDS but the parents can do something to reduce the risk of SIDS. From American SIDS Institute, they listed things Parents-To-Be and Parents can be done to reduce it. Here are some that is worth mentioning: (for the complete list, please visit American SIDS Institute)

  • Premature birth is a major risk factor for SIDS, so while pregnant, be extra careful and always see your doctor.
  • Smoking while pregnant can also increase your baby’s risk for SIDS.
  • The interval of pregnancies also plays a role on reducing SIDS, the shorter the interval, the riskier.
  • Babies sleeping on their stomach have a much higher risk well as baby who is over clothe.
  • Breastfeed babies have a lower SIDS rate.
  • Tell your caregiver (if you will be having one) about SIDS and how the risk can be reduced.

Another way to reduce SIDS is to monitor your baby, specially when sleeping.. see closely if they still breathe and be alarmed when they don’t. Be awake as much as possible.. but is that really possible? As a mom of four kids, I knew it is not.. you just can’t be awake most of the time and watch your baby’s stomach goes up and down as he breathes.

Lucky for expectant and new moms, a new baby monitor product is out on the market that’s perfect for battling SIDS.

Max’s Heartwarming Flavors for Lent

The Len season is observed here in the country by fasting, cutting back on meat and poultry and eating simple dishes..Max’s of course will always be there to provide us good food even during the Lent season. So here’s a set of dishes that’s perfect for this season:

Cauliflower Puffs (160 PhP).. if you are not a cauliflower fan, this dish will make you one. The puff is so perfect that it was too late t realized that it was a cauliflower.

Adobong Kangkong stuffed tofu (150 PhP).. I love tofu and this dish is my favorite among the three. I love how the flavor of the mushroom and the kangkong leaves was absorbed inside the tofu.

Sizzling seafood with honey bagoong sauce (265 PhP) is a winner too. The sauce was a mix of sweet and salty..perfect with a cup of rice and an ice cold cola.

Max’s Heartwarming Flavors for Lent  is available at all Max’s branches nationwide.

Here’s a description of each meal from Max’s Facebook Page:

Max’s Sizzling Seafood in Honey Bagoong Sauce is a harmony of breaded cream dory, shrimps and squid rings that are deep-fried until light, golden brown, sprinkled with julienned red bell peppers and chopped spring onions, and splashed with a special sauce that brings together sweet honey and piquant bagoong. Served in a sizzling hot plate, this sensational dish is a guaranteed must-try for seafood aficionados.

Max’s Adobong Kangkong Stuffed Tofu is an inventive and mouthwatering twist to the quintessential adobo. Fresh kangkong leaves, shiitake and button mushrooms drizzled in sweet adobo sauce stuffed in deep-fried tofu blocks. The harmony of greens and earthy colors lend a refreshing vibe that appeals to both vegetable and non-vegetable eaters.

Max’s Cauliflower Puffs is the perfect dish for very picky young diners and self-confessed meat-lovers.  Crisp cauliflowers are dipped in a special batter, deep-fried and tossed in a special sauce. Fun and vibrant colors of finely sliced carrots and spring onions also brighten up the plate. Every crunchy bite of this palatable dish makes diners forget that they are actually eating cauliflowers!
