4 Tips to Solving a Large Jigsaw Puzzle

Research has indeed shown that solving jigsaw puzzles is one of the best and cheapest ways to exercise your brain. It helps to improve your memory. It is also a good way to have fun with friends and family. Solving jigsaw puzzles has brought so many people together. It also creates a god thrill to complete a good jigsaw puzzle. Although it is fun, it is not that easy. To fix a good complex jigsaw puzzle with thousands of pieces can be confusing and times frustrating. Below are some of the tips to use to help you solve a large jigsaw puzzle:

1. Find a good Layout.

In order to get started, you need to be prepared. Preparations start by finding a flat surface that you will use to solve your puzzle. When finding the surface, consider the size of the puzzle and the use of the surface. The size of the puzzle is usually specified on the box. If you are using a table as your surface, make sure that the table will not be used until you finish your puzzle and that it can accommodate the whole puzzle. There are others who prefer to hang the puzzle on the wall or just use the floor as the surface.

2. Sort out the pieces.

Most jigsaw puzzles such as the Gibsons Jigsaws have many pieces ranging from a thousand. This can be very challenging to just start from anywhere. It will, therefore, be to your advantage to, first of all, sort them out. The sorting starts with ensuring that all the pieces have the picture side up. Divide them according to color or the size first with the picture on the box to guide you. You can even divide out the work if you are working as a group.

3. Start fixing the puzzle.

When starting the puzzle, it is advisable to start with the easy parts. This will save you a lot of frustrations and also acts as a guide. It will be easier to work from the known to the unknown. Start by laying out the edge pieces to give a clear layout of the puzzle. These are the pieces with two straight sides. Then connect them up with the other pieces with one straight side closely observing the picture. They will give you a sketch or a skeleton of the puzzle.

4. Take your time.

With jigsaw puzzles, you should never be in a hurry not unless you are in a competition. Jigsaw puzzles can be very frustrating. If you find you are getting angry and annoyed at the pieces, then you need to take a break from the puzzle. Cooling your mind off is actually a good way to ensure that it is fully functional. A break does not mean that you are unable but it is a good way to make good progress. Take some time to view the puzzle and gauge if you are still on track.

You should involve yourself more in different jigsaw puzzles to improve your skills. You can also dismantle the puzzle and start again, this time, timing yourself to test your photographic memory.

Home Makeover Project: The Porch Life

This is my first ever Home Makeover Project in our home. Talagang sinadya ko na unahin ito for so many many reasons. One is, super hangin and exposed paglabas ng pinto.  I don’t like the feeling specially when it is raining. Another thing, we need extra tambayan because my kids are getting bigger.

Please watch the video to see the transformation of our porch 🙂

How much did I spend for this?Honestly, I can’t remember! It started out as a simple project to put a shed on that area and it became bigger and more expensive than I imagine. But super worth it! Kita naman di ba?

I did not buy the daybed for this project. We got that bed with the intention of using it as day bed inside my bedroom but it was too big. It end up being my boys’ bed. That bed is made of solid wood! I was lucky that the contractors who did our porch was super kind and helped with moving that bed.

The playhouse and the slide was Sati’s. Husband’s gift to her for her 2nd birthday. Here are the things I bought for our porch:

  • Coffee table set which I got from HMR Mandaluyong for 3500 Pesos
  • Short bamboo, palm and rhapis palm from Cainta Plant Nursery
  • Dendro orchids from Quezon City Circle c/o nanay

Gusto ko talaga sana pole bamboo but it’s expensive! Maybe next year and at the same ipatiles ko na din ang porch namin. What do you think?

Tropical Home Decorating Ideas: 5 Things You Need

I am in love with anything/everything white and as I am in the process of the renovating my house, I intend to inject as much white as I can. Initial plan is to get everything white but the husband disagrees. I also realized it will looked too bleached and that I have 5 kids can mess that whiteness in an instant. So, instead, I looked for house ideas and home designs ideas with most whites on it and I fell in love with Tropical! Tropical Home Decorating Ideas is now on top of my Pinterest board.

How can you not fell in love with that theme? Whites and plants! Two of my favorite things. And with the heat this summer, oxygen addition is very much welcomed!

So yes, finally, our living room will have a theme and it’s going to be tropical. I will be changing the furnitures soon as well as the curtains and add more plants. More plants!!! Wohoooo. I have been wanting to go to Quezon City Circle to buy plants kase besh, super duper doon!

My OCD in me decided to make a check list of the things I need to make my living room as tropical as it can be. Hence, this Tropical Home Decorating Ideas List.

Tropical Home Decorating Ideas: 5 Things You Need

Palm Tree and lots of plants. Tropical is all about greeneries so as I have mentioned, a trip at one of the biggest plant store in the country is in order. Here’s a list of tropical house plants I am planning to buy:

  • Small Chinese evergreen looks good on top of the console or corner table.
  • Palm trees such as Bamboo palm and Rhapis Palm
  • Bird of Paradise
  • Snake Plant
  • Rubber Plant
  • Peace Lily

Medyo endless ang listahan but I will stop here. I will keep you posted with pictures pag nakabili na ako.

Flamingo. In all my pinterestings, FLAMINGO is a constant image. And honestly, that kind of pink in contrast with lots of green looks really really good. Throw pillow with Flamingo design is a must or a flamingo portrait (that I might paint). I’ll just choose one because too much flamingo is, well, just too much.

Peacock chair or anything wicker. Because wicker is a constant in most tropical homes. You want to know why? Rattan tree, which is one of the materials used for wicker, is abundant in most tropical places. It’s sturdy and a bit cheaper too. Of course nowadays, with high demands of such pieces, the price can be a bit higher. If you are looking for a Peacock Chair maker, check out ADR Furniture and Repair Shop

Sheer Curtains. The aim for a tropical home is natural air and natural light with a touch of nature. So sheer curtains it is, hindi pwede ang mga heavy drapes. Although I have a few curtains here, I am still planning to buy more curtains for this project. Most likely, I will go to Pasig Palengke for curtains. Relatively cheaper and nearer! Or if no choice, look for buy 1 take 1 sheer curtains in SM.

Additional Colors. My Tropical Home Decorating Ideas board in Pinterest is filled with white and greens so I was thinking of adding another color, maybe pink for flamingo and a little yellow for pineapple.

I’ll update you guys! This is truly an exciting project for me. I get to put my favorite color in our living room as well as my favorite theme. Ang saya!
